Search for Scalar Charm Quark Pair Production in pp Collisions at s√=8 TeV with the ATLAS Detector
See paper for full list of authors – Comments: 5 pages plus author list + cover page (19 pages total), 2 figures, 1 table, submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett., All figures including auxiliary figures are available at https://atlas.web.cern.ch/Atlas/GROUPS/PHYSICS/PAPERS/SUSY-2014-03International audienceThe results of a dedicated search for pair production of scalar partners of charm quarks are reported. The search is based on an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb of pp collisions at TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The search is performed using events with large missing transverse momentum and at least two jets, where the two leading jets are each tagged as originating from c-quarks. Events containing isolated electrons or muons are vetoed. In an R-parity-conserving minimal supersymmetric scenario in which a single scalar-charm state is kinematically accessible, and where it decays exclusively into a charm quark and a neutralino, 95% confidence-level upper limits are obtained in the scalar-charm-neutralino mass plane such that, for neutralino masses below 200 GeV, scalar-charm masses up to 490 GeV are excluded
Intranasal corticosteroids in allergic rhinitis in COVID-19 infected patients: An ARIA-EAACI statement
The author argues that research community is more interested in the open access (OA) initiatives rather than in the open science in general. She points out the insufficient methodological support of the open science research, civil science research ethics, and other components of open scientific knowledge and engagement of social actors. The author relates these factors to the urgency of intensified efforts to promote the ecosystem of open science. The analysis findings enable to suggest three main units to organize library efforts within the framework of open science, i. e. methodological support and education; outreach activities and marketing; law and business information processing. Depending on the library structure and staffing, the functions can be divided between its departments – from methodological and public relations department to technology and innovations support departments, – or, optionally, concentrated in just one. The author illustrates the first steps in promoting open science as a whole with the experience of “The library for open science” platform being designed by the research department of the State Public Scientific Technological Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 2022.
Abstract : In the book ?O Segredo da Pirâmide: para uma teoria marxista do jornalismo" [?The Secret of the Pyramid: for a Marxist theory of journalism"], Adelmo Genro Filho stated that journalism is a form of knowledge that is crystallized in the singular. This statement has mobilized journalists, researchers and professors over the last 27 years for the institution and legitimacy of theories of journalism in Brazil. With the theoretical and philosophical framework of Critical Ontology of Marx and Lukács, this study exposes the mediations present in the production and reception of the theory and the philosophical concepts that ground the Genro Filho's statement. The work is divided into two interdependent parts. At first, the text brings the main issues that were necessary to the Brazilian journalism in the 1980s (with emphasis on the academic, journalistic writing and the hierarchy of professionals), the author's biography and how the book was received by professors and researchers on journalism in Brazil. The second part reconstitutes the philosophical bases of the book, recovering the ontological understanding of the author towards journalism and how those fundamentals optimize the understanding of journalism as a form of knowledge proposed by the author. The objective was to demonstrate how the author's theoretical choices have close connection with his biography and how he understood the issues of his time. Simultaneously, through the analysis about the book's reception, it was possible to establish a cartography of the Brazilian production based on 411 texts mentioning "The Secret of the Pyramid", evidencing that the process of institutionalization for the defense of journalism as a profession, specialized graduation and with specific theories coincides with that map. Paradoxically, it is demonstrated that the book's reception process is accompanied by a denial of peculiar Marxist basis underlying it, which motivates the detailed study of the categories used by Genro Filho
Hormonal and genetic modulation of memory processes in healthy humans: focus on cortisol and "HDAC5"
Individual differences in memory performance can be due to the influence of various hormones as well as genetic variations and epigenetic modifications. These complex molecular and genetic mechanisms can impact learning, memory consolidation and retrieval differentially. This thesis deals with the modulation of memory processes in healthy human subjects focusing on two viewpoints. Firstly, by addressing the influence of the stress hormone cortisol, as evidence from animal and human studies shows that cortisol can enhance memory consolidation and impair retrieval. Secondly, by analyzing genetic and epigenetic data to find a target associated with synaptic plasticity and memory formation.
To investigate if stress, induced by the cold pressor test, affects memory processes, a fear-conditioning paradigm was used. The stress group showed an increase in the cortisol level and reduced retrieval of the conditioned fear memory. In a further study, we investigated if inter-individual changes in basal cortisol levels affect episodic memory. Results showed an association between stronger decreases in cortisol levels during retrieval and a better recall performance.
In a large genetic study we focused on genetic polymorphisms tagging histone deacetylase 5 (HDAC5), a gene associated with synaptic plasticity and memory formation in animal models. We detected significant associations between these polymorphisms and episodic memory performance, especially for emotional information. Surprisingly, these polymorphisms were strongly associated with expression levels of a transcript in the vicinity of HDAC5.
These results may have implications for the understanding of the mechanisms underlying memory formation in healthy subjects and the interpretation of genetic data. Additionally, our results may have clinical implications for different neuropsychiatric disorders, such as depression, anxiety disorders or posttraumatic stress disorder, for which learning and memory play an important role
MACVIA clinical decision algorithm in adolescents and adults with allergic rhinitis
The selection of pharmacotherapy for patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) depends on several factors, including age, prominent symptoms, symptom severity, control of AR, patient preferences, and cost. Allergen exposure and the resulting symptoms vary, and treatment adjustment is required. Clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) might be beneficial for the assessment of disease control. CDSSs should be based on the best evidence and algorithms to aid patients and health care professionals to jointly determine treatment and its step-up or step-down strategy depending on AR control. Contre les MAladies Chroniques pour un VIeillissement Actif en Languedoc-Roussillon (MACVIA-LR [fighting chronic diseases for active and healthy ageing]), one of the reference sites of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing, has initiated an allergy sentinel network (the MACVIA-ARIA Sentinel Network). A CDSS is currently being developed to optimize AR control. An algorithm developed by consensus is presented in this article. This algorithm should be confirmed by appropriate trials.</p
Intranasal corticosteroids in allergic rhinitis in COVID-19 infected patients: An ARIA-EAACI statement
A novel strain of human coronaviruses, named by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV)1 as the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has emerged and caused an infectious disease. This disease has recently been referred to by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the “coronavirus disease 2019” (COVID-19). Since the first report of this disease in December 2019 in Wuhan, China,2, 3 COVID-19 has aggressively spread across the globe. WHO declared it a pandemic on March 11

ARIA Phase 4 (2018): change management in allergic rhinitis and asthma multimorbidity using mobile technology
Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) has evolved from a guideline using the best approach to integrated care pathways (ICPs) using mobile technology in AR and asthma multimorbidity. The proposed next phase of ARIA is Change Management (CM) with the aim of providing an active and healthy life to rhinitis sufferers and to those with asthma multimorbidity across the life cycle whatever their gender or socio-economic status in order to reduce health and social inequities incurred by the disease. ARIA has followed the 8-step model of Kotter to assess and implement the impact of rhinitis on asthma multimorbidity and to propose multimorbid guidelines. A second change management strategy is proposed by ARIA Phase 4 to increase self-medication and shared decision making in rhinitis and asthma multimorbidity. An innovation of ARIA has been the development and validation of IT evidence-based tools (MASK: Mobile Airways Sentinel Network) that can inform patient decisions on the basis of a self-care plan proposed by the health care professional
