ATLAS results on charmonium production and BcB_c production and decays

No full text
Recent results from the ATLAS experiment at the LHC on the charmonium production and on the BcB_c production and decays are presented. These include studies of the associated production of the J/ψJ/\psi meson and WW boson, the measurement of J/ψJ/\psi and ψ(2S)\psi(\mathrm{2S}) mesons differential production cross-sections, the measurement of the differential ratios of the Bc+B_c^+ and B+B^+ production cross-sections, and the new results on the Bc+B_c^+ decays to J/ψDs()J/\psi D_s^{(*)} final states. The results are obtained with pppp collision data collected at centre-of-mass energies s=8\sqrt{s} = 8 and 13 TeV

Searches for new physics with heavy flavour at ATLAS

No full text
The FCNC processes are sensitive of NP contributions, in particular through additional electroweak loop amplitudes. The angular analysis of the decay of B0K0μ+μB^0\to K^{*0}\mu^+\mu^- is presented. A number of angular coefficients are measured as a function of the invariant mass squared of the di-muon system for data collected by ATLAS at s=8\sqrt{s} = 8 TeV. Comparison is made to theoretical predictions, including for the observable P5P_5^\prime, for which there has been recent tension between theory and experiment. ATLAS results on the study of the Bs0μ+μB^0_s\to \mu^+\mu^- rare decay is also presented

The PhD thesis is dedicated to a study of heavy hadrons in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. It presents a measurement of the branching ratios of the Bc+B_c^+ meson decays, Bc+J/ψDs+B_c^+\to J/\psi D_s^+ and Bc+J/ψDs+B_c^+\to J/\psi D_s^{*+}, using another Bc+B_c^+ decay, Bc+J/ψπ+B_c^+\to J/\psi \pi^+, for normalization. Polarization of daughter particles in the Bc+J/ψDs+B_c^+\to J/\psi D_s^{*+} decay is also measured. The study was performed with data collected by ATLAS in pppp collisions at centre-of-mass energies s=7\sqrt{s} = 7 and 8 TeV in 2011--2012. The thesis also describes a study on search for the Bs0μ+μB^0_s\to \mu^+\mu^- rare decay with ATLAS data of pppp collisions at s=7\sqrt{s} = 7~TeV. An upper limit on the decay branching ratio is set. Author's principal contribution to this study was developing a method to estimate a background from neutral BB meson decays to a pair of light charged hadrons (BhhB\to hh^\prime)

Recent heavy-flavour results from ATLAS

Recent heavy-flavour results of the ATLAS experiment at LHC are presented. These include studies of charmonium production, searches for exotic states in four-muon final state and measurement of Bs0μ+μB^0_s\to\mu^+\mu^- decay effective lifetime. Most of the results are obtained with pppp collision data collected at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

The search uses proton--proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb1^{-1}. Decays of CP-even hh bosons to ττ\tau\tau or bbbb pairs with the ZZ boson decaying to electron or muon pairs are considered, as well as hbbh \rightarrow bb decays with the ZZ boson decaying to neutrinos. No evidence for the production of an AA boson in these channels is found and the 95% confidence level upper limits derived for \sigma (gg\rightarrow A) \times \mbox{BR}(A \rightarrow Zh) \times \mbox{BR}(h \rightarrow f\bar{f}) are 0.098--0.013 pb for f=τf=\tau and 0.57--0.014 pb for f=bf=b in a range of mA=m_A = 220--1000 GeV. The results are combined and interpreted in the context of two-Higgs doublet models

Search for W ' -> t(b)over-bar in the lepton plus jets final state in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

No full text
A search for new charged massive gauge bosons, called W', is performed with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8 TeV, using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1). This analysis searches for W' bosons in the W' -> t (b) over tilde decay channel in final states with electrons or muons, using a multivariate method based on boosted decision trees. The search covers masses between 0.5 and 3.0 TeV, for right-handed or left-handed W' bosons. No significant deviation from the Standard Model expectation is observed and limits are set on the W' -> t (b) over bar cross-section times branching ratio and on the W'-boson effective couplings as a function of the W'-boson mass using the CLs procedure. For a left-handed (right-handed) W' boson, masses below 1.70 (1.92) TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.ATLAS Collaboration, for complete list of authors see http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.physletb.2015.02.051</p
