No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e ExpressãoAsfalto Selvagem I e II - Engraçadinha seus amores e seus pecados foi escrito por Nelson Rodrigues, originalmente, sob a forma de folhetim, diariamente publicado no jornal Ultima Hora (1959-60), e seguindo o caminho de seus folhetins anteriores recebeu uma impressão posterior (1961) em forma de livro, "transformando-se" em romance. Em 1995, novamente, Asfalto Selvagem... migra para outro veículo da indústria cultural indo parar num seriado de televisão. Este trabalho propõe retraçar as pontes entre o folhetim como forma de literatura industrializada e a televisão como veículo da indústria cultural e como bem simbólico (na cultura brasileira), a fim de localizar Asfalto Selvagem: Engraçadinha seus amores e seus pecados em sua passagem do jornal à televisão em alguns aspectos implicados nesse processo. Em primeiro lugar, na obra de Nelson Rodrigues, Engraçadinha destaca-se em sua travessia social de gêneros e como romance-folhetim. Em segundo lugar, há uma re-montagem histórica da teledramaturgia como pano de fundo propiciador de uma exposição do folhetim de Nelson Rodrigues. Em terceiro lugar, a passagem, propriamente dita, do folhetim à imagem, se por um lado reforça o caráter conservador da TV, por outro, atualiza a transgressividade erótica presente no texto rodrigueano, já como uma adaptação ao século XX do folhetim do século XIX

No full textEunotia nupeliana D.T.Ruwer & L.Rodrigues, sp. nov. (Figs 2–11) Description: —Dorsiventral valves, narrowing towards the ends, rounded to subcapitate apices slightly dorsally deflected. Ventral margin slightly concave. Dorsal margins convex with three slight undulations in all cell cycle stages, less visible in smaller specimens (n=30). Valve length 21.0–56.6 μm, valve width 5.0–6.8 μm. Areolae not distinguishable under LM. Striae slightly radiate, denser at the apices, spaced, 11–14 in 10 μm in the middle of the valve. Striae composed of continuous rows of rounded areolae, 40–50 areolae in 10 μm. No spines were observed. Terminal raphe fissures positioned very close to the apical valve margin extending over almost the entire apical end. Type locality: — BRAZIL. Mato Grosso do Sul: Taguaruçú, Patos Lake, Upper Paraná River Floodplain, sediment core, 22°45’31.98” S, 53°17’52.60” W, D. T. Ruwer, March 2018 (holotype, designated here, Nupélia UEM! 18099 = Fig. 2). Measurement of the top-quark mass in all-jets events in pp collisions at = 7 TeV
No full textThe mass of the top quark is measured using a sample of candidate events with at least six jets in the final state. The sample is selected from data collected with the CMS detector in pp collisions at = 7 TeV in 2011 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.54 . The mass is reconstructed for each event employing a kinematic fit of the jets to a hypothesis. The top-quark mass is measured to be 173.49 0.69(stat.) 1.21(syst.) GeV. A combination with previously published measurements in other decay modes by CMS yields a mass of 173.54 0.33(stat.) 0.96(syst.) GeV
Acoustic radiation due to scattering of T-S wave by the mean-flow distortion induced by steady local suction
No full textSubstantial sound waves can be generated by boundary-layer instability modes when the latter are scattered by a rapid mean-flow distortion. This is a rather generic mechanism and operates when an oncoming T-S wave is scattered by a steady local suction slot. This paper focuses on this problem by extending a recently developed Local Scattering Theory (Wu & Dong, J. Fluid Mech. submitted), where a so-called transmission coefficient, defined as the ratio of the T-S wave amplitude downstream of the scatter to that upstream, is introduced to characterize the effect of a local scatter on boundary-layer instability and transition. As in the earlier work, the mathematical formulation is based on triple-deck formulism, but in order to accommodate the acoustic far field, which was not considered in the paper mentioned, the unsteady terms in the upper deck, which play a leading-order role in radiation, are retained, and the influence of the radiated sound on the near-wall perturbation is included. The upper deck equation for the pressure is the Helmholtz equation rather than the Laplace equation. This leads to a modified pressure-displacement relation, which is coupled with the linearized boundary-layer equations in the lower deck. Discretization of the whole system formulates a generalized eigenvalue problem, which is solved numerically. It is found that suction suppresses oncoming T-S waves, and this effect increases with the suction velocity and the slot width. The directivity is ndependent of the flow parameters only when the Mach number is low. The intensity of the radiated sound in general increases with the frequency, the suction velocity and the width of the suction slot. Interestingly, for O(1) suction velocities, the radiated sound is very weak, indicating that the gain of stabilizing effect does not cause aeroacoustic penalty

Measurement of the ratio of prompt χ c to J / ψ production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV
No full textThe prompt production of charmonium χ c and J / ψ states is studied in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. The χ c and J / ψ mesons are identified through their decays χ c → J / ψ γ and J / ψ → μ + μ - using 36 pb - 1 of data collected by the LHCb detector in 2010. The ratio of the prompt production cross-sections for χ c and J / ψ, σ (χ c → J / ψ γ) / σ (J / ψ), is determined as a function of the J / ψ transverse momentum in the range 2 < p T J / ψ < 15 GeV / c. The results are in excellent agreement with next-to-leading order non-relativistic expectations and show a significant discrepancy compared with the colour singlet model prediction at leading order, especially in the low p T J / ψ region
