Minimal Size of Piggybacked Information for Tracking Causality: A Graph-Based Characterization
Efficient causality-tracking timestamping
Vector clocks are the appropriate mechanism used to track causality among the events produced by a distributed computation. Traditional implementations of vector clocks require application messages to piggyback a vector of n integers (where n is the number of processes). This paper investigates the tracking of the causality relation on a subset of events (namely, the events that are defined as "relevant" from the application point of view) in a context where communication channels are not required to be FIFO, and where there is no a priori information on the connectivity of the communication.graph or the communication pattern. More specifically, the paper proposes a suite of simple and efficient implementations of vector clocks that address the reduction of the size of message timestamps, i.e., they do their best to have message timestamps whose size is less than n. The relevance of such a suite of protocols is twofold. From a practical side, it constitutes the core of an adaptive timestamping software layer that can used by underlying applications. From a theoretical side, it provides a comprehensive view that helps better understand distributed causality-tracking mechanisms
Measurement of differential production cross-sections and forward-backward ratio in p+Pb collisions with the ATLAS detector

The data set used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 28.1 nb. The mesons are reconstructed in the dimuon decay channel over the transverse momentum range GeV and over the center-of-mass rapidity range . Prompt are separated from resulting from -hadron decays through an analysis of the distance between the decay vertex and the event primary vertex. The differential cross-section for production of nonprompt is compared to a FONLL calculation that does not include nuclear effects. Forward-backward production ratios are presented and compared to theoretical predictions. These results constrain the kinematic dependence of nuclear modifications of charmonium and -quark production in p+Pb collisions
An Efficient Checkpointing Protocol For The Minimal Characterization Of Operational Rollback-dependency Trackability
A checkpointing protocol that enforces rollback-dependency trackability (RDT) during the progress of a distributed computation must induce processes to take forced checkpoints to avoid the formation of non-trackable rollback dependencies. A protocol based on the minimal characterization of RDT tests only the smallest set of non-trackable dependencies. The literature indicated that this approach would require the processes to maintain and propagate O(n 2) control information, where n is the number of processes in the computation.
