A Characterization of Procyclic Groups via Complete Exterior Degree

    No full text
We describe the nonabelian exterior square G∧^G of a pro-p-group G (with p arbitrary prime) in terms of quotients of free pro-p-groups, providing a new method of construction of G∧^G and new structural results for G∧^G. Then, we investigate a generalization of the probability that two randomly chosen elements of G commute: this notion is known as the “complete exterior degree” of a pro-p-group and we will use it to characterize procyclic groups. Among other things, we present a new formula, which simplifies the numerical aspects which are connected with the evaluation of the complete exterior degree

Observations of Bºs→ψ(2S)η and Bº(s)→ψ(2S)π+π- decays

    First observations of the B0s →ψ(2S)η, B0 →ψ(2S)π + π − and B0s →ψ(2S)π + π − decays are made using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1 collected by the LHCb experiment in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √ s = 7 TeV. The ratios of the branching fractions of each of the ψ(2S) modes with respect to the corresponding J/ψ decays are B(B0s →ψ(2S)η) ÷ B(B0s →J/ψη) = 0.83± 0.14 (stat)±0.12 (syst) ±0.02 (B), ; B(B0→ψ(2S)π + π − ) ÷ B(B0→J/ψπ + π − ) = 0.56± 0.07 (stat)±0.05 (syst)± 0.01 (B), ; B(B0s →ψ(2S)π + π − ) ÷ B(B0s →J/ψπ + π − ) = 0.34± 0.04 (stat)±0.03 (syst)± 0.01 (B), where the third uncertainty corresponds to the uncertainties of the dilepton branching fractions of the J/ψ and ψ(2S) meson decays

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    No full text
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(B0→K∗0γ )/B(B0s→φγ ) and the directCP asymmetry inB 0→K∗0γ

    No full text
The ratio of branching fractions of the radiative B decays B0→K⁎0γ and B0s→ϕγ has been measured using an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1 of pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=7TeV. The value obtained is B(B0→K⁎0γ)B(B0s→ϕγ)=1.23±0.06(stat.)±0.04(syst.)±0.10(fs/fd), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is associated with the ratio of fragmentation fractions fs/fd. Using the world average value for B(B0→K⁎0γ), the branching fraction B(B0s→ϕγ) is measured to be (3.5±0.4)×10−5. The direct CP asymmetry in B0→K⁎0γ decays has also been measured with the same data and found to be ACP(B0→K⁎0γ)=(0.8±1.7(stat.)±0.9(syst.))%. Both measurements are the most precise to date and are in agreement with the previous experimental results and theoretical expectations

Numerical bounds for the exterior degree of finite simple groups

    No full text
he exterior degree d(G)d^\wedge(G) of a finite group GG is the probability that a pair (x,y)(x,y) of elements x,yx,y chosen uniformly at random in GG satisfies the condition xy=1x \wedge y=1_\wedge, where \wedge denotes the operator of nonabelian exterior square GGG \wedge G and 11_\wedge is the neutral element in GGG\wedge G. The well known probability d(G)d(G) that two elements of GG commute (in the sense of Erd\H{o}s and Tur\'an) upper bounds d(G)d^\wedge(G). Of course, d(G)=1d(G)=1 if and only if GG is abelian, but d(G)=1d^\wedge(G) =1 if and only if GG is cyclic, so we may detect cyclic groups as long as d(G)d^\wedge(G) is close to 11 (among abelian groups). We present new numerical results for the exterior degree of finite simple groups

Author Institution: Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering, The Australian National University; Molecular Physics Laboratory, SRI InternationalThe origin of the intensity of the B3Σub1Σg+B{^{3}}\Sigma^{-}_{u} \leftarrow b {^{1}}\Sigma^{+}_{g} transition of molecular oxygen, first observed recently by Eppink et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 108, 1305 (1998).], is discussed. It is shown that the BbB \leftarrow b transition borrows its intensity principally from the dipole-allowed BXB \leftarrow X transition, through spin-orbit mixing between the X3Σg+X{^{3}}\Sigma_{g}^{+} and b1Σg+b{^{1}}\Sigma^{+}_{g} states. Estimated continuum photoabsorption cross sections and discrete oscillator strengths for the BbB \leftarrow b system are presented

The B 0 s → J/ψK 0 S branching fraction is measured in a data sample corresponding to 0.41 fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected with the LHCb detector at the LHC. This channel is sensitive to the penguin contributions affecting the sin 2β measurement from B 0 → J/ψK 0 S . The time-integrated branching fraction is measured to be B(B 0 s → J/ψK 0 S ) = (1.83±0.28)×10−5 . This is the most precise measurement to date
