    Representation and Equality: Basic Education Democracy in Minangkabau

    Social life of a village in Minangkabau is built on a tradition of democracy and mutual agreement. This study aims to explain and elaborate on the values contained in the legend and tradition as the basis of democratic education in Minangkabau. Furthermore, it also describes the potential and contribution of the custom that support the understanding of democracy and democratization process that includes: Representativeness, Sakato consensus (Sakato, an institution that accommodates the aspirations of the people), decision-making, basic freedoms and individual engagement in decision-making, and the equality of voting rights in the deliberations. This study used a qualitative approach, comprehensive interviews and documentation as data collection. The data source is the prince, traditional leaders, Nagari custom, traditional Alam Minangkabau, Bundo Kanduang, religious leaders and society. Data analyzed refers to the analysis of qualitative data presented by Alwasilah (2002). The results showed that the global concept of democracy can be united with the democracy education system brought by traditional communities. That is, people's understanding of democracy education not only refers to the idea of West democracy. However, the custom values of society can be used as the basis democratic education for Minangkabau society of the present and future. The result also shows that the Minangkabau community has first implemented democracy based on traditional values long before Western democracy applied in Indonesia, especially in Minangkabau

    Arabic Language as the Icon of Islamic Higher Education: A Study of the Implementation of Arabic Intensive Program

    AbstractArabic intensive Program is important to improve the quality of foreign language ability for UIN Imam Bonjol students. The planning, implementing and evaluating the process of the Arabic Intensive Program needs to be addressed and improved from various aspects. Thus, the study aims to identify appropriate policies to improve the management of the Intensive Arabic Language program, to develop Arabic language competency standards based on an analysis of the real conditions of the main components and program supporters, and to formulate the standard to improve the quality of Arabic Intensive Programs at UIN Imam Bonjol, Padang. This study used a qualitative approach where the data taken from interviews, documentation and focus group discussion. Data sources are managers, lecturers, and students participating in Arabic Intensive Program. The results of the study showed that the Arabic programs need appropriate policies to overcome the obstacles and problems. The visible problems were in the planning process, especially planning in the learning objectives, materials, and the provision of lecturers; In connection with the implementation of Arabic Intensive programs, there are still constrained by the available facilities and infrastructure, related to evaluation, the results of the study show that comprehensive evaluation needs to be done in relation to the evaluation of inputs, processes, outputs, and impacts to improve the quality of Arabic as an institutional brand in the future..AbstrakProgram intensif bahasa Arab penting untuk meningkatkan kualitas kemampuan bahasa asing bagi siswa UIN Imam Bonjol. Perencanaan, implementasi dan evaluasi proses Program Intensif Arab perlu ditangani dan ditingkatkan dari berbagai aspek. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kebijakan yang tepat untuk meningkatkan manajemen program Bahasa Arab Intensif, untuk mengembangkan standar kompetensi bahasa Arab berdasarkan analisis kondisi nyata dari komponen utama dan pendukung program, dan untuk merumuskan standar untuk meningkatkan kualitas Program Intensif Bahasa Arab di UIN Imam Bonjol, Padang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dimana data diambil dari wawancara, dokumentasi dan diskusi kelompok terarah. Sumber data adalah pimpinan, dosen, dan mahasiswa yang berpartisipasi dalam Program Intensif Arab. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa program-program Arab membutuhkan kebijakan yang tepat untuk mengatasi hambatan dan masalah. Masalah yang terlihat dalam proses perencanaan, terutama perencanaan dalam tujuan pembelajaran, bahan, dan penyediaan dosen; Sehubungan dengan pelaksanaan program-program Intensif Bahasa Arab, masih ada kendala oleh fasilitas dan infrastruktur yang tersedia, terkait dengan evaluasi, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa evaluasi komprehensif perlu dilakukan sehubungan dengan evaluasi input, proses, output, dan dampak untuk meningkatkan kualitas bahasa Arab sebagai merek kelembagaan di masa depan.     Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas (Class Action Reseach). Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan di SD Negeri 012 Tanjung Berulak Kecamatan Kampar Kabupaten Kampar, ditemui beberapa gejala-gejala atau fenomena dalam proses belajar mengajar, khususnya pada mata pelajaran Sains, seperti dalam proses pembelajaran sebagian besar siswa kurang aktif, hal ini terlihat dari aktifitas siswa yang tidak memperhatikan guru yang sedang menyampaikan materi pelajaran, Dalam proses pembelajaran siswa cendrung lebih banyak diam, jarang mengajukan pertanyaan ataupun memberikan tanggapan. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa keaktifan belajar siswa masih tergolong rendah khususnya dalam pelajaran Sains. Untuk meningkatkan aktivitas belajar siswa maka pada penelitian ini diterapkan Pembelajaran kooperatif tipe group investigation. Adapun perumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah: Apakah dengan penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe group investigation dapat meningkatkan keaktifan belajar Sains tentang cahaya dan Sifat sifatnya pada siswa kelas V SD Negeri 012 Tanjung Berulak Kecamatan Kampar Kabupaten Kampar. Sedangakan yang menjadi hipotesis penelitian yaitu: melalui penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Group Investigation dapat meningkatkan keaktifan belajar Sains tentang Cahaya dan Sifat-Sifatnya pada siswa kelas V SD Negeri 012 Tanjung Berulak Kecamatan Kampar Kabupaten Kampar Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus dan tiap siklus dilakukan dalam tiga kali pertemuan. Agar penelitian tindakan kelas ini berhasil dengan baik tanpa hambatan yang mengganggu kelancaran penelitian, peneliti menyusun tahapan tahapan yang dilalui dalam penelitian tindakan kelas, yaitu: 1) Perencanaan atau persiapan tindakan, 2) Pelaksanaan tindakan, 3) Observasi, dan Refleksi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, maka dapat diketahui bahwa terjadinya peningkatan keaktifan belajar siswa dalam pelajaran Sains dari data awal yang peneliti peroleh didapat rata-rata persentase 59,05 dengan jumlah skor secara klasikal 310 pada kategori rendah. Setelah dilakukan tindakan perbaikan pada siklus I ternyata terjadi peningkatan keaktifan belajar siswa dengan rata-rata persentase 68,8, dengan jumlah skor 361 dengan kategori tinggi. Sedangkan pada siklus II juga terjadi peningkatan keaktifan belajar siswa dengan rata-rata persentase. 74,86, dengan jumlah skor 393 pada kategori tinggi. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa melalui Pembelajaran kooperatif tipe group investigation dapat meningkatkan keaktifan belajar siswa

    Understanding morals can be seen one of them in the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), namely: nature, behavior. In a hadith, that good is broadly noble character. The urgency of morality in the personality of a student and in life is that he will elevate the person's degree to a high position with a noble character, on the contrary bad character will demean someone, even though he or she is a respected person in the midst of society. In the article, the author tries to explain the urgency of morality and the importance of moral education in schools. In education today, the cultivation of three main points of Islamic teachings is very important, namely faith, worship and morals. Moral as one of them. In this article, the writer uses the maudhu 'method, collects verses with the same theme and is perfected with several traditions, then concluded. According to the author, it is very important to teach moral lessons to students at school again and to practice them directly

    How To Challenge The Life Women Resiliency In Acehnese Matrilocal System: Philological and Anthropological Approaches

    The matrilocal system has had a positive effect on women in Aceh. This system has enabled them to become more resilient in facing life's challenges for themselves, their families and their communities. This study is a qualitative study with philological and anthropological approaches used to study Acehnese manuscripts that are relevant to the theme of matrilocality. In-depth interviews, manuscript studies and observations were also conducted to understand matrilocality practices in Aceh, particularly in the Pidie regions. In this way, historical and empirical knowledge of Aceh's matrilocal system is obtained. It was found that the matrilocal system had raised the status and enthusiasm and resilience of Acehnese women in wading through life as individuals, family members, and part of Acehnese society. Philologically, historically and anthropologically a harmonious life is seen in the matrilocal system, Acehnese women make it possible to face life's challenges, such as raising children for a successful life; maintain good communication with parents, neighbors and the community; and managing household finances. This diversity of matrilocal traditions can contribute to the status and resilience of women in the Indonesian nation-state

    PENERAPAN METODE PEMBELAJARAN STUDENT FACILITATOR AND EXPLAINING DAN METODE COOPERATIVE SCRIPT TERHADAP PENGUASAAN KONSEP FISIKA DITINJAU DARI AKTIVITAS BELAJAR SISWA

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) perbedaan penguasaan konsep fisika antara siswa yang memiliki aktivitas belajar tinggi dan siswa yang memiliki aktivitas belajar rendah (2) perbedaan penguasaan konsep fisika pada penerapan metode student facilitator and explaining dan cooperative script (3) ada atau tidaknya hubungan antara penggunaan metode student facilitator and explaining dan cooperative script dengan aktivitas belajar siswa terhadap penguasaan konsep fisika (4) apakah motivasi belajar memberikan sumbangan terhadap penguasaan konsep fisika. Desain penelitian ini berupa factorial design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas X MAN Yogyakarta III. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara cluster random sampling, dan didapatkan kelas XA dan XF sebagai kelas eksperimen. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah berupa soal tes, lembar observasi, dan lembar angket. Analisis data menggunakan anava multifaktor, regresi linear, dan koefisien determinasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) terdapat perbedaan penguasaan konsep fisika antara siswa yang memiliki aktivitas belajar tinggi dan rendah dengan nilai signifikansi 5,46 lebih besar dari 4,03 (2) terdapat perbedaan penguasaan konsep fisika antara siswa yang diberikan metode pembelajaran student facilitator and explaining dan cooperative script dengan nilai signifikansi 36,47 lebih besar dari 4,03 (3) tidak terdapat interaksi antara metode yang digunakan dengan aktivitas belajar siswa terhadap penguasaan konsep fisika siswa dengan nilai signifikansi - 2,72 kurang dari 4,03 (4) motivasi memberikan sumbangan terhadap penguasaan konsep fisika. Siswa yang diajar dengan metode pembelajaran student facilitator and explaining memberikan sumbangan sebesar 47,89% dan motivasi siswa yang diajar dengan metode cooperative script memberikan sumbangan sebesar 15,6%

    Perbandingan Aktifitas Antibakteri Ekstrak Etanol, Ekstrak Etil Asetat, dan Ekstrak n-Heksan Daun Sambung Nyawa (Gynura procumbens L.) terhadap Bakteri Escherichia coli

    Background: Sambung nyawa is one of the plants that have antibacterial properties, among the plant parts used are the leaves. Antibacterial compounds contained in the sambung nyawa leaves are flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. Plant active compounds can be extracted using a solvent that is suitable for the desired compound polarity.Objective: To compare the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract, ethyl acetate extract, and n-hexane extract of sambung nyawa leaves against Escherichia coli bacteria.Method: This type of research is experimental research. Sambung nyawa leaves were extracted by maceration using 96% ethanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane as solvents, then concentrated with a rotary evaporator. Then the antibacterial activity was tested using the agar diffusion method by measuring the diameter of the inhibitor against E. coli at various extract concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%.Results: Measurement of the diameter of the inhibition of the leaf extract of sambung nyawa against E. coli showed that the ethanol extract at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% had an average inhibitory diameter of 6.75 mm, 7.75 mm, 8.25 mm, 9.5 mm, respectively. In succession, the ethyl acetate extract had an average inhibitory diameter of 8.25 mm, 9.95 mm, 10.05 mm, and 11.75 mm mm, and the n-hexane extract had an average inhibitory diameter of 0 mm.Conclusion: The ethyl acetate extract of the sambung nyawa leaf had the greatest bacterial activity compared to the ethanol and n-hexane extracts. The diameter of the highest inhibition zone was 9.5 mm in the ethanol extract which was in the medium strength category and the ethyl acetate extract with the highest inhibition zone of 11.75 mm was the strong strength category.Keywords: Sambung nyawa leaves, ethanol extract, ethyl acetate, n-hexane, Escherichia col
