    B meson decay constants f(Bc), f(Bs) and f(B) from QCD sum rules

    Finite energy QCD sum rules with Legendre polynomial integration kernels are used to determine the heavy meson decay constant f(Bc), and revisit f(B) and f(Bs). Results exhibit excellent stability in a wide range of values of the integration radius in the complex squared energy plane, and of the order of the Legendre polynomial. Results are f(Bc) = 528 +/- 19 MeV, f(B) = 186 +/- 14 MeV, and f(Bs) = 222 +/- 12 MeV

    Time-dependent angular analysis of the decay Bs -> J/psi phi and extraction of Delta Gamma_s and the CP-violating weak phase phi_s by ATLAS

    A measurement of Bs J/psi phi decay parameters, including the CP-violating weak phase phi_s and the decay width difference Delta Gamma_s is reported, using 4.9 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected in 2011 by the ATLAS detector from LHC pp collisions at a centre- of-mass energy sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. The mean decay width Gamma_s and the transversity amplitudes |A0(0)|^2 and |A||(0)|^2 are also measured. The values reported for these parameters are: phi_s = 0.22 \pm 0.41 (stat.) \pm 0.10 (syst.) rad Delta Gamma_s = 0.053 \pm 0.021 (stat.) \pm 0.010 (syst.) ps-1 Gamma_s = 0.677 \pm 0.007 (stat.) \pm 0.004 (syst.) ps-1 |A0(0)|^2 = 0.528 \pm 0.006 (stat.) \pm 0.009 (syst.) |A||(0)|^2 = 0.220 \pm 0.008 (stat.) \pm 0.007 (syst.) where the values quoted for phi_s and Delta Gamma_s correspond to the solution compatible with the external measurements to which the strong phase delta perpendicular is constrained and where Delta Gamma_s is constrained to be positive. The fraction of S-wave KK or f0 contamination through the decays Bs -> J/psi K+K-(f0) is measured as well and is found to be consistent with zero. Results for phi_s and Delta Gamma_s are also presented as 68%, 90% and 95% likelihood contours, which show agreement with Standard Model expectations

    The development of single-item measures of Flourishing:the Brief Scales of Flourishing (BS-F)

    The Brief Scales of Flourishing (BS-F) comprise single items to assess flourishing and languishing on a continuum and derives classification of these states. The convergent and criterion validity of the BS-F was compared against established flourishing measures using samples from the United States (n = 303) and United Kingdom (n = 301). There was strong concordance between the BS-F flourishing and languishing status in comparison with status derived from the Mental Health Continuum Short Form; 77.5% and 85.3% of participants were, respectively, correctly classified as flourishing and languishing. Continuum measures reported large correlations with existing flourishing scales. The criterion validity of the BS-F was supported with comparable performance in predicting key outcomes (e.g. mental health, work–life balance, alexithymia). The BS-F items reliably capture individual differences and accurately classify individuals. The BS-F offers a practical alternative to longer measures in time-constrained settings including longitudinal studies and population monitoring where brief assessment is essential.</p

    Abstract: The computer lab is very important to the student’s education. Every institution or university should have this as a key resource, especially for tech-related programs like BS Information Technology and BS Computer Science. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the connection between students with BSs in information technology and computer science's laboratory performance and internship grades. The main goal of the study is whether a student's success in the lab during their first year of college has an impact on how well they do in their practicum or internship. The descriptive-correlational study approach was used to demonstrate the laboratory performance of the SY 2021–2022 BSIT and BSCS graduating class. Performance indicators (PI) and the marks they got from the firms during their internships were used to demonstrate this performance. 35 graduates of the BS in information technology and 16 graduates of the BS in computer science from the academic year 2021–2022 are taking part in this study. It was concluded that there is a strong correlation between laboratory performance and academic internships under corporate supervision. These results contribute to a better significance of performance indicator assessment in laboratory procedures. The second goal is to raise the standards of the quality indicators used to evaluate and track students' computer lab performance. The research recommended integrating academic success and student output at work to create more meaningful data for quality improvement.     Measurement of the CP-violating phase \phi s in Bs->J/\psi\pi+\pi- decays

    Measurement of the mixing-induced CP-violating phase phi_s in Bs decays is of prime importance in probing new physics. Here 7421 +/- 105 signal events from the dominantly CP-odd final state J/\psi pi+ pi- are selected in 1/fb of pp collision data collected at sqrt{s} = 7 TeV with the LHCb detector. A time-dependent fit to the data yields a value of phi_s=-0.019^{+0.173+0.004}_{-0.174-0.003} rad, consistent with the Standard Model expectation. No evidence of direct CP violation is found

    The present code PD 5500, formerly BS 5500 [1] evolved partly from the well-known BS 1500 [2] in the 1950's and BS 1515 [3] first published in 1965; the latter permitted higher level allowable stresses and more advanced rules. In 1969, following a report from the Committee of Enquiry into the Pressure Vessel Industry, the British Standards Institution brought all the pressure vessel interests together under one general committee in order to rationalise the activity. This became PVE/ and presides over a large committee structure. There are a series of functional sub-committees who deal with specific aspects and a large number of technical committees as well as many additional sub committees and working groups. Most of these meet regularly. The technical committee PVE/1, Pressure Vessels, has overall responsibility for BS 5500. The functional committee PVE/1/15 Design Methods has an overall responsibility relating to 'Design' with particular reference to the design section of BS 5500 (Section 3). The first edition of BS 5500 was issued in 1976. The actual issue was delayed for some time because, in the early 1970's, there was an attempt in Europe to produce an international pressure vessel standard. A draft of the international standard appeared as ISO DIS 2694 [4] in 1973 but it was not generally accepted and the attempt was abandoned in the mid 70's. It was decided to use some of the material from 2694 within BS 5500 so that although the Standard was long delayed it benefited to some extent from the international efforts. Initially, committee PVE/l set out the concept of a "master" pressure vessel standard which could readily be applied to any vessel in either ferrous or non-ferrous materials and for highly specialised application with the minimum of supplementary requirements. The layout of BS 5500 is consistent with this concept and although the Standard has perhaps not fulfilled this high ideal, it has certainly been employed widely in many industries including non pressure vessel type applications. When issued it had a number of distinctive features compared with other pressure codes viz; weld joint factors were removed, the present three categories of construction were introduced, there was a new novel external pressure section, it has a loose leaf format and an annual updating was introduced. Further editions of BS 5500 have been issued every three years since 1982

    Bs->mu+mu-gamma decay rate at large q^2 from lattice QCD

    Wedetermine, by means of lattice QCD calculations, the local form factors describing the Bs → μþμ−γ decay, in the so-called electroquenched approximation. For this analysis we make use of the gauge configurations produced by the ETM Collaboration with Nf 1⁄4 2 þ 1 þ 1 flavor of Wilson-Clover twisted mass fermions at maximal twist. To obtain the Bs meson form factors, we perform simulations for several heavy-strange meson masses mHs in the range mHs ∈1⁄2mDs ;2mDs , and extrapolate to the physical Bs meson point mBs ≃ 5.367 GeV making use of the HQET scaling laws. We cover the region of large dimuon f f iffiffiffiffi invariant masses q2 p &gt;4.16GeV, and use our results to determine the branching fraction for Bs →μþμ−γ, which has been recently measured by LHCb in the region ffiffiffiffiffi p &gt;4.9GeV. The largest contribution to the uncertainty in the partial branching fractions at values of ffiffiffiffiffi q2 q2 p &lt;4.8GeVisnowdueto resonance and other long-distance effects, including those from “charming penguins,” which we estimate by summing over the contributions from the JP 1⁄4 1− charmonium resonances

    Bs to mu mu gamma from Bs to mu mu

    International audienceThe Bs to mu mu gamma decay offers sensitivity to a wider set of effectiveoperators than its non-radiative counterpart Bs to mu mu, and a set that isinteresting in the light of present-day discrepancies in flavour data. On theother hand, the direct measurement of the Bs to mu mu gamma decay poseschallenges with respect to the Bs to mu mu one. We present a novel strategy tosearch for Bs to mu mu gamma decays in the very event sample selected for Bs tomu mu searches. The method consists in extracting the Bs to mu mu gammaspectrum as a "contamination" to the Bs to mu mu one, as the signal window forthe latter is extended downward with respect to the peak region. We providearguments for the actual practicability of the method already on Run-2 data ofthe LHC

    Bs,d→μ+μ− in technicolor model with scalars

    AbstractRare decays Bs,d→μ+μ− are evaluated in technicolor model with scalars. Rb is revisited to constrain the model parameter space. It is found that restriction on f/f′ arising from Rb which was not considered in previous studies requires f/f′ no larger than 1.9 at 95% confidence level, implying no significantly enhancement for Br(Bs,d→μ+μ−) from neutral scalars in the model. However, the branching ratio of Bs→μ+μ− can still be enhanced by a factor of 5 relative to the standard model prediction. With the value of f/f′≲1.9, an upgraded Tevatron with an integrated luminosity 20 fb−1 will be sensitive to enhancement of Bs→μ+μ− in this model provided that neutral scalar mass mσ is below 580 GeV

    Objective: To evaluate an assocn. of Bloom syndrome (BS) phenotype with an in vivo pro-oxidant state. Methods: The following endpoints were measured in 4 BS patients, their 6 parents, and 78 controls: a. leukocyte and urinary 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG); b. blood glutathione (GSSG and GSH), c. plasma levels of some plasma antioxidants (uric acid, UA, ascorbic acid, AA, a- and g-tocopherol), and of glyoxal (Glx) and methylglyoxal (MGlx). Results: Leukocyte 8-OHdG levels were significantly increased in the 4 BS patients vs. 40 controls (p = 0.04), while the urinary 8-OHdG levels were non-significantly increased in BS patients. Glutathione disulfide levels and GSSG/GSH ratio were significantly decreased in BS patients vs. 44 controls (p = 0.02). The plasma levels of UA in BS patients were significantly increased vs. 24 controls (p = 0.005). No significant alterations were found in the in the plasma levels of Glx, MGlx, AA, and tocopherol. No changes in the tested parameters were found in the BS heterozygotes. Conclusion: This report shows a significant increase in oxidative DNA damage in leukocytes and in plasma UA levels from 4 BS patients. Should these data be confirmed in more extensive BS patient groups, an involvement of oxidative stress in the clin. BS phenotype might be suggested
