    The decays B[subscript s][superscript 0]→D[subscript s](*)[superscript +]Ds(*)[superscript -] are reconstructed in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.8  fb[superscript -1] collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron pp̅ collider. All decay modes are observed with a significance of more than 10σ, and we measure the B[subscript s][superscript 0] production rate times B[subscript s][superscript 0]→D[subscript s](*)[superscript +]D[subscript s](*)[superscript -] branching ratios relative to the normalization mode B[superscript 0]→D[subscript s][superscript +]D[superscript -]to be 0.183±0.021±0.017 for B[subscript s][superscript 0]→D[subscript s][superscript +]D[subscript s][superscript -], 0.424±0.046±0.035 for B[subscript s][superscript 0]→D[subscript s][superscript *]±D[subscript s][superscript ±], 0.654±0.072±0.065 for B[subscript s][superscript 0]→D[subscript s][superscript *+]D[subscript s][superscript *-], and 1.261±0.095±0.112 for the inclusive decay B[subscript s][superscript 0]→D[subscript s](*)[superscript +]Ds(*)[superscript -], where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. These results are the most precise single measurements to date and provide important constraints for indirect searches for nonstandard model physics in B[subscript s][superscript 0] mixing

    Using 355 pb(-1) of data collected by the CDF II detector in p (p) over bar at collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron, we study the fully reconstructed hadronic decays B-(s)(0) -> D-(s)(-)pi(+) and B-(s)(0) -> D-(s)(-) pi(+)pi(+)pi(-). We present the first measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(B-s(0) -> D-s(-) pi(+)pi(+)pi(-))/B(B-0 -> D-s(-) pi(+)pi(+)pi(-)) = 1.05 +/- 0.10(stat) +/- 0.22(syst). We also update our measurement of B(B-s(0) -> D-s(-)pi(+))/B(B-0 -> D-pi(+)) to 1.13 +/- 0.08(stat) +/- 0.23(syst), improving the statistical uncertainty by more than a factor of 2. We find B(B-s(0) -> D-s(-)pi(+)) = [3.8 +/- 0.3(stat) +/- 1.3(syst)] x 10(-3) and B(B-s(0) -> D-s(-) pi(+)pi(+)pi(-)) = [8.4 +/- 0.8 (stat) +/- 3.2(syst)] x 10(-3)

Measurement of the production and differential cross sections of W+W- bosons in association with jets in pp¯ collisions at ?s = 1.96TeV. Physical Review D - Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology, 91(11). doi:10.1103/PhysRevD.91.111101We present a measurement of the W-boson-pair production cross section in pp¯ collisions at 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy and the first measurement of the differential cross section as a function of jet multiplicity and leading-jet energy. The W+W- cross section is measured in the final state comprising two charged leptons and neutrinos, where either charged lepton can be an electron or a muon. Using data collected by the CDF experiment corresponding to 9.7fb-1 of integrated luminosity, a total of 3027 collision events consistent with W+W- production are observed with an estimated background contribution of 1790 ± 190 events. The measured total cross section is ?(pp¯ ? W+W-)= 14.0 ± 0.6 (stat)-1.0+1.2 (syst) ± 0.8 (lumi) pb, consistent with the standard model prediction. © 2015; American Physical Society. Measurement of the inelastic proton–proton cross-section at √s=7 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

    No full text
    A first measurement of the inelastic cross-section is presented for proton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy √ =7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. In a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20 µb-1, events are selected by requiring hits on scintillation counters mounted in the forward region of the detector. An inelastic cross-section of 60.3 ± 2.1 mb is measured for ξ>5x10-6, where ξ=M2X/s is calculated from the invariant mass, MX, of hadrons selected using the largest rapidity gap in the event. For diffractive events this corresponds to requiring at least one of the dissociation masses to be larger than 15.7 GeV

    Improved determination of the sample composition of dimuon events produced in p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1.96 TeV

    We use a new method to estimate with 5% accuracy the contribution of pion and kaon in-flight-decays to the dimuon data set acquired with the CDF detector. Based on this improved estimate, we show that the total number and the properties of the collected dimuon events are not yet accounted for by ordinary sources of dimuons which also include the contributions, as measured in the data, of heavy flavor, Υ{hooked}, and Drell-Yan production in addition to muons mimicked by hadronic punchthrough. The number of unaccounted events corresponds to (12.8±3.2)% of the bb̄ production. We find that (23±6)% of the unaccounted events contain additional muon candidates. For comparison, this fraction is (6.9±0.4)% for events due to bb̄ production. © 2011 The Author(s)

    We report the first observation of two Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes of the Bs0 [B subscript s superscript 0] meson. Using a sample of pp̅ collisions at √s=1.96  [square root of 1.96] TeV corresponding to 5.9  fb-1 [fb superscript -1] of integrated luminosity collected with the CDF II, the collider detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we search for new Bs0 [B subscript s superscript 0] decay modes in a sample of events containing J/ψ→μ+μ- [J / psi→mu superscript + mu superscript -] decays. We reconstruct a Bs0→J/ψK*(892)0 [B subscript s superscript 0→J / psi K subscript s superscript 0] signal with K*(892)0→K+π- [K* (892) superscript 0 →K superscript + pi superscript -], observing a yield of 151±25 events with a statistical significance of 8.0σ [8.0 delta]. We also reconstruct a Bs0→J/ψKS0 [B subscript s superscript 0→J / psi K subscript s superscript 0] signal with KS0→π+π- [K subscript s superscript 0→ pi superscript + pi superscript -], observing a yield of 64±14 events with a statistical significance of 7.2σ [7.2 delta]. From these yields, we extract the branching ratios B(Bs0→J/ψK*(892)0)=(8.3±3.8)×10-5 [B (B subscript s superscript 0→J / psi K* (892) superscript 0) = (8.3±3.8) × 10 superscript -5] and B(Bs0→J/ψK0)=(3.5±0.8)×10-5 [B (B subscript s superscript 0→J / psi K superscript 0) = (3.5 ± 0.8) × 10 superscript -5], where statistical, systematic, and fragmentation-fraction uncertainties are included in the combined uncertainty.United States. We present a measurement of the B[subscript s][superscript 0] lifetime in fully and partially reconstructed B[subscript s][superscript 0]→D[subscript s][superscript -](ϕπ[superscript -])X decays in 1.3  fb[superscript -1] collected in pp̅ collisions at √s=1.96  TeV by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We measure τ(B[subscript s][superscript 0])=1.518±0.041(stat)±0.027(syst)  ps. The ratio of this result and the world average B[superscript 0] lifetime yields τ(B[subscript s][superscript 0])/τ(B[superscript 0])=0.99±0.03, which is in agreement with recent theoretical predictions.National Science Foundation (U.S.)United States.
