    Get PDF

This document is the final result of the training process as a Master in Education and, at the same time, it is the requirement to choose the corresponding title. The source to start and develop the project is the macro project that the master's degree proposed: “Riosucio as an Educational City: from utopia to reality”. Within the framework of this proposal, a thesis work is proposed to reveal the pedagogies that emerge within an institutional educational project that has the implementation of Self-Education as a characteristic. The aforementioned macro project opens an important perspective to the municipality of Riosucio, not only because of the educational proposal that exists in it, but also because of the cultural richness that converges there, which displays a range of integrative possibilities in doing, among the educational system and citizenship. It is an opportunity to establish an educational dynamic with a more universal content. In this sense, the macro project shows an innovative and relevant intention for the municipality of Riosucio, in a scenario where the multiculturalism of its population prevails. From the point of view of educational institutions, there is a diversity of pedagogical models built from the particular needs identified in the contexts where they are settled, an important aspect because it places educational processes in accordance with the requirements of the communities. However, the utopia of an educating city raises the perspective of a more integrated social fabric, independent of its heterogeneity due to ethnic, historical and cultural origins, and of the symbolic representations of those cultural realities. This integrating horizon in the individual and collective, seeks to facilitate the confluence of knowledge that brings with it the possible pedagogies that correspond to them. Consequently, it is considered that the fact that an educating city emerges will contribute from its own dynamics a different way of considering the school, a place in which learning can evolve with a greater content of humanity, insofar as they must be citizen educational processes and liberators, the result of which must achieve a constant decolonization of knowledge. As Carbonell (2015) says: "In these territories coexist the private space of the most intimate and family relationships, the community space of neighborhood and associative networks, and the public space of unknown and anonymous beings" (p. 2). For this reason, the macro project is conceived as an ideal way to synthesize the meaning and appropriation of an educational city, where the space is opened for the integration of the human, without falling into exclusive rhetoric. Gisela Morales Navarro, Rafael Mezquita Gómez. The importance of the educational context: the educating city. IX ADIDE Congress - Aragón, Spain. (2018). The origin of this project is articulated, in addition, with the pedagogical contents that appear in Own Education, because they make possible the evolutionary processes of the model by integrating in its exercise everything related to the ancestral knowledge that gives survival to the historical continuum of the people Embera Chamí. Also, they are the means that articulates the universal knowledge disseminated by the official educational system and that Self-Education does not deny, but it does act through its pedagogies to neutralize the colonizing content of official education. In this sense, it is essential to recognize the pedagogical position of the teachers, which in general terms is consistent with the philosophy of the model itself. Guaranteeing this position allows a greater consolidation of the model, which is reflected in the way students assimilate the processes and project them from their own conviction in the contexts to which they belong. Based on the previous considerations, the purpose of this thesis was raised to identify and recognize that, in the educational institution María Fabiola Largo Cano, of the indigenous reservation Nuestra Señora Candelaria de la Montaña, the educational model of Self-Education is based on a structure of emerging pedagogies. This purpose is articulated with the main objective: to reveal the pedagogies that emerge, that motivate and generate responses to the processes of recognition and transformation of educational practices staged by the aforementioned institution. Eng: This thesis explores the impact of speaking strategies under TBLT on ninth-graders oral skills in a secondary school in Colombia. 15 students participated in this study and data collection instruments such as journals, classroom discussions, peer-observation, and a diagnostic test were used to identify the problem. The analysis of the data revealed learners’ speaking difficulties as pronunciation, fluency, participation, and self-confidence. Having in mind those speaking issues, the researcher used the action research approach and proposed diverse speaking strategies and Task-Based Language Teaching to enhance the speaking issues mentioned above. Hence, the researcher designed six workshops with at least two speaking strategies to tackle the learner’s speaking issues. In the action stage, the author used similar instruments and an exit test to collect students’ information about their oral progress through the workshops. The findings show how speaking strategies such as interviews, discussions, simulations, and role-plays inside the TBLT approach showed significant progress in students' pronunciation and fluency. TBLT approach promoted collaborative work during the development of oral activities and tasks. Conclusions of this study discuss the positive impact of speaking strategies and the TBLT approach on ninth-graders oral skills. To conclude, several recommendations were proposed such as the importance of selecting interesting topics for students, working in pairs and small groups, practicing the new vocabulary and expressions through different activities, and the use of visual aids to encourage students to use their oral skillsThe impact of speaking strategies inside the TBLT approach on 9th graders oral skills/ Abstract/ Introduction/1. Coatings rich in silver have been used to inhibit this undesirable phenomenon. In this study, the antimicrobial properties of several silver-containing products used as a coating in pipelines were determined on a pilot scale in order to evaluate the ability of silver to inhibit biofilm formation. The results showed that the coating with silver zeolite at a concentration of 2000 mg L-1 inhibited the formation of a microbial biofilm and prevented the biodeterioration process. Therefore, from our study, it can be concluded that silver zeolite shows greater protection capacity than other silver preparations and presents advantages in relation to other silver coatings that are currently availableCETAQUA Foundatio

DigitalScientific research plays a fundamental role in current medical practice and it is of great importance that medical students relate to it from the beginning of their professional career, since it generates multiple benefits that will be reflected during the course of their careers as university students and future professionals. However, getting involved in research during the undergraduate years is not always easy, as there are different obstacles and challenges that result in a reduced number of research students. Because of this, it is necessary to adopt appropriate strategies and measures to help facilitate this process, in order to foster the early development of essential skills that will facilitate responsible clinical practice. Knowing the evidence on this issue is fundamental to propose educational solutions depending on each context.Ciencias Médicas y de la Salu

DNA Glycosylases Involved in Base Excision Repair May Be Associated with Cancer Risk in BRCA1 and BRCA2 Mutation Carriers.

Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes involved in the DNA Base Excision Repair (BER) pathway could be associated with cancer risk in carriers of mutations in the high-penetrance susceptibility genes BRCA1 and BRCA2, given the relation of synthetic lethality that exists between one of the components of the BER pathway, PARP1 (poly ADP ribose polymerase), and both BRCA1 and BRCA2. In the present study, we have performed a comprehensive analysis of 18 genes involved in BER using a tagging SNP approach in a large series of BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers. 144 SNPs were analyzed in a two stage study involving 23,463 carriers from the CIMBA consortium (the Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA1 and BRCA2). Eleven SNPs showed evidence of association with breast and/or ovarian cancer at p,0.05 in the combined analysis. Four of the five genes for which strongest evidence of association was observed were DNA glycosylases. The strongest evidence was for rs1466785 in the NEIL2 (endonuclease VIII-like 2) gene (HR: 1.09, 95% CI (1.03– 1.16), p = 2.761023) for association with breast cancer risk in BRCA2 mutation carriers, and rs2304277 in the OGG1 (8-guanine DNA glycosylase) gene, with ovarian cancer risk in BRCA1 mutation carriers (HR: 1.12 95%CI: 1.03–1.21, p = 4.861023). DNA glycosylases involved in the first steps of the BER pathway may be associated with cancer risk in BRCA1/ 2 mutation carriers and should be more comprehensively studied

454-Pyrosequencing analysis of bacterial communities from autotrophic nitrogen removal bioreactors utilizing universal primers: Effect of annealing temperature

    Get PDF
Identification of anaerobic ammonium oxidizing (anammox) bacteria by molecular tools aimed at the evaluation of bacterial diversity in autotrophic nitrogen removal systems is limited by the difficulty to design universal primers for the Bacteria domain able to amplify the anammox 16S rRNAgenes.Ametagenomic analysis (pyrosequencing) of total bacterial diversity including anammox population in five autotrophic nitrogen removal technologies, two bench-scale models (MBR and Low Temperature CANON) and three full-scale bioreactors (anammox, CANON, and DEMON), was successfully carried out by optimization of primer selection and PCR conditions (annealing temperature). The universal primer 530F was identified as the best candidate for total bacteria and anammox bacteria diversity coverage. Salt-adjusted optimum annealing temperature of primer 530F was calculated (47?C) and hence a range of annealing temperatures of 44–49?C was tested. Pyrosequencing data showed that annealing temperature of 45?C yielded the best results in terms of species richness and diversity for all bioreactors analyzed.BiotechnologyApplied Science
