Sonuçlar, dokuzuncu s n f ö rencilerinin devirli ondal k say larla ilgili a r genelleme, yanl tecrübe ve k s tl alg lama türlerinde kavram yan lg lar na sahip olduklar n göstermektedir.The aim of this study is to identify misconceptions of nine grade students on the topic of repeating decimal numbers. Data were obtained from forty students through Diagnostic Test of Repeating Decimal Numbers including open-ended questions. Questions were prepared according to the classification of misconceptions as overgeneralization, overspecialization, mistranslation and limited conception. As a part of rational numbers unit the topic of representation of repeating decimals is introduced at 6, 7, 8 and 9 grades in our schools. In spite of this, findings of this study illustrate that even nine grade students still have some common misconceptions about this topic. Findings illustrated that most students misconceptions were based on overgeneralization. In addition to this students also shared the other categories of misconceptions as well

    A study on the reliability of consecutive k-Out-of-n: G systems based on Copula

    The computation of reliability characteristics of a system that consists of dependent components is sometimes difficult especially when the type of dependence is not known. This article introduces the copula method to calculate the reliability of dependent consecutive k-out-of-n: G systems. The components in these systems are dependent on each other and the dependency may be either linear or nonlinear. The copula is a popular tool for modeling the dependence structure of data. It contains the information about the dependency structure of a vector of random variables and can capture nonlinear dependence. Based on the copula theory, the article analyzes the consecutive k-out-of-n: G systems and gets the reliability indexes. Finally, some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the results obtained in this article.Peer reviewe

    Using performance assessment in secondary school mathematics: an empirical study in a Singapore classroom

    This article reports an exploratory study on using performance assessment in mathematics instruction in a high-performing secondary school in Singapore. An intact mathematics class participated in the study, and received chapter-based performance tasks as intervention during regular mathematics lessons for about one and a half school years. The performance tasks used included authentic and/or open-ended tasks. The students’ academic achievements and attitudes in mathematics were compared with a comparison class that did not receive the intervention. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected, mainly through questionnaire surveys, performance task tests, conventional school exams, and interviews with students and teachers. The results suggest that the students receiving the intervention performed significantly better than their counterparts in solving conventional exam problems, and in general they also showed more positive changes in attitudes towards mathematics and mathematics learning. The students from the experimental class also expressed positive views about the benefits of using performance tasks in promoting their ability in higher order thinking, though no statistically significant difference was detected between the two classes of students in solving unconventional tasks before and after intervention. Overall, the results appear to support teachers’ using contextualised problems in real life situations and open-ended investigations in students’ learning of mathematic

    Measurement of the differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections in proton-proton collisions at root s=7 TeV

    Measurements of the differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections are presented using an integrated luminosity of 4.5 (4.8) fb−1 in the dimuon (dielectron) channel of proton-proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at s√ = 7 TeV. The measured inclusive cross section in the Z-peak region (60–120 GeV) is σ(ℓℓ) = 986.4 ± 0.6 (stat.) ± 5.9 (exp. syst.) ± 21.7 (th. syst.) ± 21.7 (lum.) pb for the combination of the dimuon and dielectron channels. Differential cross sections dσ/dm for the dimuon, dielectron, and combined channels are measured in the mass range 15 to 1500 GeV and corrected to the full phase space. Results are also presented for the measurement of the double-differential cross section d2σ/dm d|y| in the dimuon channel over the mass range 20 to 1500 GeV and absolute dimuon rapidity from 0 to 2.4. These measurements are compared to the predictions of perturbative QCD calculations at next-to-leading and next-to-next-to-leading orders using various sets of parton distribution functions

    New fluorescent photochromic compounds (1-H and 1-Boc)have been synthesized and characterized in different solvents.The fluorescence emission can be switched “on” and“off” with visible light and UV, respectively, by means of thephotochromic reaction. The emission wavelength and efficiencystrongly depend on the polarity of the solvent. Thecompounds show a positive solvatochromic effect in theemission maxima, and their fluorescence quantum yield decreasesas the solvent’s polarity increases (from cyclohexaneto dioxane). In solvents more polar than dioxane the emissionis too weak and therefore undetectable, and thus 1-H and 1-Boc behave as “normal” photochromic compounds. The photochromic reaction is also sensitive to the environment. A decreaseof more than an order of magnitude was found for thequantum yield of the colouring reaction (ΦOFCF) for 1-H inethanol compared with cyclohexane, and an about threefolddecrease in ΦOFCF was observed for the compound 1-Bocin polar solvents (compared with apolar solvents). For bothcompounds the ring-opening reaction was found not to dependenton the solvent. The novel fluorescent molecularswitches 1-H and 1-Boc are able to probe the polarity of theirmicroenvironment.Fil: Yan, Sergey F..     Demicryptochironomus (Irmakia) oyabeprimus (Sasa, Kawai et Ueno) comb. n. (Figs 25–27) Cryptotendipes oyabeprimus Sasa, Kawai et Ueno, 1988: 32; Sasa, Kitami and Suzuki (2002: 5); Yan et al. (2005: 27); Makarchenko et al. (2005: 409). Material examined. Holotype male (NSM No. 136: 55), JAPAN: Toyama Prefecture, Oyabe River, 19.viii.1987, sweep net. Diagnostic characters. The species can be distinguished from other species of the genus by the rod-like superior volsella lacking elongated projection or pits, anal point with pointed apex, and gonostylus curved in distal 1/3. Male ( Figs 25–27). As in Sasa et al. (1988: 32) with the following additions: Brachiolum with 3 setae, R with 23 setae, R 1 with 17 setae, R 4+5 with 23 setae. Midleg without sensilla chaetica. Tergite IX with 18 setae. Laterosternite IX with 7 setae. Phallapodeme 85 m long. Transverse sternapodeme 37 m long. Superior volsella swollen distally. Gonocoxite 100 m long, inner margin with 6 strong setae. Gonostylus 185 m long, curved in distal 1/3, inner margin with 12 setae. HR 0.54; HV 1.75. Remarks. Yan et al. (2005) suggested that the species should be placed in Demicryptochironomus based on the original description and figures. Re-examination of the holotype show that the species belong in the subgenus Irmakia, as it has Y-shaped anal tergite bands, a nearly parallel-sided gonostylus, rod-like superior volsella, and lacks inferior volsella. Cryptotendipes species have an inner expansion at the base of the gonostylus. Distribution.     Elements of Modernism and the Grotesque in Yan Lianke's Early Fiction

    This chapter aims to detect early signs of modernism and the grotesque in Yan Lianke 阎连科’s fiction from the 1990s, which is usually placed in the category of post-Maoist realism and, as a genre, is recognised as part of the xiangtu xiaoshuo 乡土小说 (fiction of the native soil). Most of the studies devoted to Yan’s works focus on his latest novels, where his theory of shenshizhuyi 神实主义 (spiritual realism or mythorealism) finds full expression. Indeed, to analyse his early works can be of great interest in order to reconstruct the genesis of his peculiar style and vision of fiction. In particular, this chapter focuses on the novella Gold Cave (Huangjin dong 黄金洞, 1995), which openly challenges the assumptions of traditional xiangtu xiaoshuo with which Yan’s early fiction has been initially identified, and presents clear hints of a new aesthetics, based on modernist techniques and strategies of bewilderment aimed at transcend reality in order to better express it

    Demicryptochironomus (Demicryptochironomus) tamacutus (Sasa) comb. n. (Figs 19–21) Cryptotendipes tamacutus Sasa, 1983: 6; Yan et al. (2005: 27). Material examined. Holotype male (NSM No. 67: 21), JAPAN: Tama River, Okutama, 26.vi.1981. Diagnostic characters. The species is similar to Demicryptochironomus asamaprimus Sasa et Hirabayashi in having a sheet-shaped inferior volsella covered by microtrichia. It can be separated on the tuberclelike superior volsella. Male (Figs 19–21). As in Sasa (1983: 6) with the following corrections and additions: Brachiolum with 2 setae, R with 28 setae, R 1 with 22 setae, R 4+5 with 32 setae. Midleg without sensilla chaetica. Tergite IX with 28 setae. Laterosternite IX with 5 setae. Anal tergite bands V-shaped. Phallapodeme 105 µm long. Transverse sternapodeme 28 µm long. Superior volsella tubercle-like, with 2–3 setae. Inferior volsella reduced, sheetshaped, covered with microtrichia. Gonocoxite 155 µm long, inner margin with 8 strong setae. Gonostylus 178 µm long, swollen medially, tapering towards apex, inner margin with 12 setae. HR 0.87; HV 2.34. Remarks. Yan et al. (2005) suggested that the species should be placed in Demicryptochironomus based on the original description and figures. Re-examination of the holotype revealed that the base of the gonostylus of Cryptotendipes tamacutus Sasa is lacking an inner expansion. Based on the tubercle-like superior volsella and the shape of the gonostylus the species is transferred to Demicryptochironomus as a new combination. Distribution.
