    Production of (anti-)He-3 and (anti-)H-3 in p-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV

    The transverse momentum (p(T)) differential yields of (anti-)He-3 and (anti-)H-3 measured in p-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV with ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are presented. The ratios of the p(T)-integrated yields of (anti-)He-3 and (anti-)H-3 to the proton yields are reported, as well as the pT dependence of the coalescence parameters B-3 for (anti-)He-3 and (anti-)H-3. For (anti-)He-3, the results obtained in four classes of the mean charged-particle multiplicity density are also discussed. These results are compared to predictions from a canonical statistical hadronization model and coalescence approaches. An upper limit on the total yield of (4)(He) over bar is determined

    Investigating strangeness enhancement in jet and medium via φ(1020) production in p−Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

    This work aims to differentiate strangeness produced from hard processes (jet-like) and softer processes (underlying event) by measuring the angular correlation between a high-momentum trigger hadron (h) acting as a jet-proxy and a produced strange hadron (φ(1020) meson). Measuring h−φ correlations at midrapidity in p−Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV as a function of event multiplicity provides insight into the microscopic origin of strangeness enhancement in small collision systems. The jet-like and the underlying-event-like strangeness production are investigated as a function of event multiplicity. They are also compared between a lower and higher momentum region. The evolutions of the per-trigger yields within the near-side (aligned with the trigger hadron) and away-side (in the opposite direction of the trigger hadron) jets are studied separately, allowing for the characterization of two distinct jet-like production regimes. Furthermore, the h−φ correlations within the underlying event give access to a production regime dominated by soft production processes, which can be compared directly to the in-jet production. Comparisons between h−φ and dihadron correlations show that the observed strangeness enhancement is largely driven by the underlying event, where the φ/h ratio is significantly larger than within the jet regions. As multiplicity increases, the fraction of the total φ(1020) yield coming from jets decreases compared to the underlying event production, leading to high-multiplicity events being dominated by the increased strangeness production from the underlying event

    International audienceTwo-particle correlations with KS0\textrm{K}^{0}_\mathrm{{S}}, Λ\Lambda /Λ\overline{\Lambda }, and charged hadrons as trigger particles in the transverse momentum range 8{3 GeV/cc as expected from strong in-medium energy loss, while an enhancement develops at low pT,assocp_{{\textrm{T}},{\textrm{assoc}}} on both the near and away sides, reaching IAA1.8I_{\textrm{AA}}\approx 1.8 and 2.7 respectively. These findings are in good agreement with previous ALICE measurements from two-particle correlations triggered by neutral pions (π0\pi ^{0}–h) and charged hadrons (h–h) in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN = 2.76\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}}~=~2.76 TeV. Moreover, the correlations with KS0\textrm{K}^{0}_\mathrm{{S}} mesons and Λ\Lambda /Λ\overline{\Lambda } baryons as trigger particles are compared to those of inclusive charged hadrons. The results are compared with the predictions of Monte Carlo models

    First Measurement of A=4 Hypernuclei and Antihypernuclei at the LHC

    International audienceIn this Letter, the first evidence of the Λ4He\overline{{}^4_\Lambda\mathrm{He}} antihypernucleus is presented, along with the first measurement at the LHC of the production of (anti)hypernuclei with mass number A=4A = 4, specifically (anti)Λ4H^4_\Lambda \mathrm{H} and (anti)Λ4He^4_\Lambda \mathrm{He}. In addition, the antiparticle-to-particle ratios for both hypernuclei (Λ4H/Λ4H\overline{{}^4_\Lambda \mathrm{H}} / {}^4_\Lambda \mathrm{H} and Λ4He/Λ4He\overline{{}^4_\Lambda\mathrm{He}} / {}^4_\Lambda\mathrm{He}) are shown, which are sensitive to the baryochemical potential of the strongly interacting matter created in heavy-ion collisions. The results are obtained from a data sample of central Pb--Pb collisions, collected during the 2018 LHC data taking at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = \SI{5.02}{\tera\electronvolt}. The yields measured for the average of the charge-conjugated states are found to be [0.78±0.19(stat)±0.17(syst)]×106[0.78 \pm 0.19\,\text{(stat)} \pm 0.17\,\text{(syst)}] \times 10^{-6} for the (anti)Λ4H^4_\Lambda \mathrm{H} and [1.08±0.34(stat)±0.20(syst)]×106[1.08 \pm 0.34\,\text{(stat)} \pm 0.20\,\text{(syst)}] \times 10^{-6} for the (anti)Λ4He^4_\Lambda \mathrm{He}, and the measured antiparticle-to-particle ratios are in agreement with unity. The presence of (anti)Λ4H^4_\Lambda \mathrm{H} and (anti)Λ4He^4_\Lambda \mathrm{He} excited states is expected to strongly enhance the production yield of these hypernuclei. The yield values exhibit a combined deviation of 3.3σ3.3\,\sigma from the theoretical ground-state-only expectation, while the inclusion of the excited states in the calculations leads to an agreement within 0.6σ0.6\,\sigma with the present measurements. Additionally, the measured (anti)Λ4H^4_\Lambda \mathrm{H} and (anti)Λ4He^4_\Lambda \mathrm{He} masses are compatible with the world-average values within the uncertainties

    Study of J/ψ azimuthal anisotropy at forward rapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV

    The second (v2) and third (v3) flow harmonic coefficients of J/ψ mesons are measured at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4.0) in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. Results are obtained with the scalar product method and reported as a function of transverse momentum, pT, for various collision centralities. A positive value of J/ψ v3 is observed with 3.7σ significance. The measurements, compared to those of prompt D0 mesons and charged particles at mid-rapidity, indicate an ordering with vn(J/ψ) < vn(D0) < vn(h±) (n = 2, 3) at low and intermediate pT up to 6GeV/c and a convergence with v2(J/ψ) ≈ v2(D0) ≈ v2(h±) at high pT above 6–8 GeV/c. In semi- central collisions (5–40% and 10–50% centrality intervals) at intermediate pT between 2 and 6 GeV/c, the ratio v3/v2 of J/ψ mesons is found to be significantly lower (4.6σ) with respect to that of charged particles. In addition, the comparison to the prompt D0-meson ratio in the same pT interval suggests an ordering similar to that of the v2 and v3 coefficients. The J/ψ v2 coefficient is further studied using the Event Shape Engineering technique. The obtained results are found to be compatible with the expected variations of the eccentricity of the initial-state geometry

    Search for weakly decaying (Lambda n)over-bar and Lambda Lambda exotic bound states in central Pb-Pb collisions at root S-NN=2.76 TeV

    We present results of a search for two hypothetical strange dibaryon states, i.e. the H-dibaryon and the possible (Lambda n) over bar bound state. The search is performed with the ALICE detector in central (0-10%) Pb-Pb collisions at root S-NN = 2.76 TeV, by invariant mass analysis in the decay modes (Lambda n) over bar (d) over bar pi(+) and H-dibaryon -> Lambda p pi(-). No evidence for these bound states is observed. Upper limits are determined at 99% confidence level for a wide range of lifetimes and for the full range of branching ratios. The results are compared to thermal, coalescence and hybrid UrQMD model expectations, which describe correctly the production of other loosely bound states, like the deuteron and the hypertriton.     Measurement of strange baryon–antibaryon interactions with femtoscopic correlations

    Two-particle correlation functions were measured for p (p) over bar, p (Lambda) over bar, (p) over bar Lambda, and Lambda(Lambda) over bar pairs in Pb-Pb collisions at root sNN = 2.76 TeV and root sNN = 5.02 TeV recorded by the ALICE detector. From a simultaneous fit to all obtained correlation functions, real and imaginary components of the scattering lengths, as well as the effective ranges, were extracted for combined p (Lambda) over bar and (p) over bar Lambda pairs and, for the first time, for Lambda(Lambda) over bar pairs. Effective averaged scattering parameters for heavier baryon-antibaryon pairs, not measured directly, are also provided. The results reveal similarly strong interaction between measured baryon-antibaryon pairs, suggesting that they all annihilate in the same manner at the same pair relative momentum k*. Moreover, the reported significant non-zero imaginary part and negative real part of the scattering length provide motivation for future baryon-antibaryon bound state searches.     First measurement of the vertical bar t vertical bar-dependence of coherent J/psi photonuclear production

    The first measurement of the cross section for coherent J/Psi photoproduction as a function of vertical bar t vertical bar, the square of the momentum transferred between the incoming and outgoing target nucleus, is presented. The data were measured with the ALICE detector in ultra-peripheral Pb-Pbcollisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV with the J/Psi produced in the central rapidity region vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.8, which corresponds to the small Bjorken-xrange (0.3 - 1.4) x 10(-3). The measured vertical bar t vertical bar-dependence is not described by computations based only on the Pb nuclear form factor, while the photonuclear cross section is better reproduced by models including shadowing according to the leading-twist approximation, or gluon-saturation effects from the impact-parameter dependent Balitsky-Kovchegov equation. These new results are therefore a valid tool to constrain the relevant model parameters and to investigate the transverse gluonic structure at very low Bjorken- x. (C) 2021 The Author(s).     Measurement of HΛ3 production in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV

    The first measurement of HΛ3 and H‾Λ‾3 differential production with respect to transverse momentum and centrality in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV is presented. The HΛ3 has been reconstructed via its two-charged-body decay channel, i.e., HΛ3→3He+π−. A Blast-Wave model fit of the pT-differential spectra of all nuclear species measured by the ALICE collaboration suggests that the HΛ3 kinetic freeze-out surface is consistent with that of other nuclei. The ratio between the integrated yields of HΛ3 and He3 is compared to predictions from the statistical hadronisation model and the coalescence model, with the latter being favoured by the presented measurements

    First measurement of quarkonium polarization in nuclear collisions at the LHC

    The polarization of inclusive J/psi and Upsilon(1S) produced in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV at the LHC is measured with the ALICE detector. The study is carried out by reconstructing the quarkonium through its decay to muon pairs in the rapidity region 2.5 < y < 4 and measuring the polar and azimuthal angular distributions of the muons. The polarization parameters lambda(theta), lambda(phi) and lambda(theta phi) are measured in the helicity and Collins-Soper reference frames, in the transverse momentum interval 2 < p(T) < 10 GeV/c and p(T) < 15 GeV/c for the J/psi and Upsilon(1S), respectively. The polarization parameters for the J/psi are found to be compatible with zero, within a maximum of about two standard deviations at low p(T), for both reference frames and over the whole p(T) range. The values are compared with the corresponding results obtained for pp collisions at root s = 7 and 8 TeV in a similar kinematic region by the ALICE and LHCb experiments. Although with much larger uncertainties, the polarization parameters for Upsilon(1S) production in Pb-Pb collisions are also consistent with zero. (c) 2021 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V.
