    Evidence for the decay B0→J/ψω and measurement of the relative branching fractions of meson decays to J/ψη and J/ψη′

    First evidence of the B 0 → J / ψ ω decay is found and the B s 0 → J / ψ η and B s 0 → J / ψ η ′ decays are studied using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb -1 collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. The branching fractions of these decays are measured relative to that of the B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0 decay:frac(B (B 0 → J / ψ ω), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 0.89 ± 0.19 (stat) - 0.13 + 0.07 (syst),frac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 14.0 ± 1.2 (stat) - 1.5 + 1.1 (syst) - 1.0 + 1.1 (frac(f d, f s)),frac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η ′), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 12.7 ± 1.1 (stat) - 1.3 + 0.5 (syst) - 0.9 + 1.0 (frac(f d, f s)), where the last uncertainty is due to the knowledge of f d / f s, the ratio of b-quark hadronization factors that accounts for the different production rate of B 0 and B s 0 mesons. The ratio of the branching fractions of B s 0 → J / ψ η ′ and B s 0 → J / ψ η decays is measured to befrac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η ′), B (B s 0 → J / ψ η)) = 0.90 ± 0.09 (stat) - 0.02 + 0.06 (syst)

    Measurement of the ratio of prompt χ c to J / ψ production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV

    The prompt production of charmonium χ c and J / ψ states is studied in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. The χ c and J / ψ mesons are identified through their decays χ c → J / ψ γ and J / ψ → μ + μ - using 36 pb - 1 of data collected by the LHCb detector in 2010. The ratio of the prompt production cross-sections for χ c and J / ψ, σ (χ c → J / ψ γ) / σ (J / ψ), is determined as a function of the J / ψ transverse momentum in the range 2 < p T J / ψ < 15 GeV / c. The results are in excellent agreement with next-to-leading order non-relativistic expectations and show a significant discrepancy compared with the colour singlet model prediction at leading order, especially in the low p T J / ψ region

    Association analyses of 249,796 individuals reveal 18 new loci associated with body mass index

    Obesity is globally prevalent and highly heritable, but its underlying genetic factors remain largely elusive. To identify genetic loci for obesity susceptibility, we examined associations between body mass index and similar to 2.8 million SNPs in up to 123,865 individuals with targeted follow up of 42 SNPs in up to 125,931 additional individuals. We confirmed 14 known obesity susceptibility loci and identified 18 new loci associated with body mass index (P < 5 x 10(-8)), one of which includes a copy number variant near GPRC5B. Some loci (at MC4R, POMC, SH2B1 and BDNF) map near key hypothalamic regulators of energy balance, and one of these loci is near GIPR, an incretin receptor. Furthermore, genes in other newly associated loci may provide new insights into human body weight regulation

    Using plastic analysis and the concept of the collapse mechanism in continuous members, a general strain compatibility equation and a direct design expression for calculating the stress f ps in unbonded tendons at ultimate were developed. The developed approaches take into account the important parameters that influence f ps in an elegant and accurate manner. This paper presents a thorough discussion of the application of the design expression, verifies its accuracy in comparison with test data and other available expressions, and proposes that it forms the foundation for modifying Eq. (18-4) and (18-5) of ACI 318-08 for computing f ps. Molecular constants were derived from our rotational analysis of the four 0-0 bands of two 2ΠX4Σ^{2}\Pi \leftarrow X^{4}\Sigma transitions using jet-cooled (J=15)(J = 15) high-resolution data. We have now extended the analysis to include data from 16 Rh16ORh^{16}O medium-resolution sub-bands (J=35)(J = 35) arising from the v=0v = 0 level of the ground state. In addition, emission plates from Stockholm, recorded in the 1960s have been examined, extending the analysis to much higher J. Several bands for Rh18ORh^{18}O have also been investigated. Spectroscopic parameters from some 3000 assigned lines will be discussed

    Frequency, Determinants, and Costs of Recommendations for Additional Imaging in Clinical F-18-FDG PET/CT Reports

    Our purpose was to determine the frequency, determinants, and costs of recommendations for additional imaging (RAIs) in clinical F-18-FDG PET/CT reports. Methods: This retrospective study included a random sample of 2,643 F-18-FDG PET/CT scans that were performed for various clinical reasons at a tertiary-care academic medical center without financial incentives for self-referral, within a 1.5-y period. Results: Ninety-eight (3.7%) of 2,643 F-18-FDG PET/CT reports contained an RAI. None of the investigated variables (patient age, hospital status [inpatient or outpatient], indication for F-18-FDG PET/CT scanning [oncologic, infection/inflammation, or miscellaneous], type of F-18-FDG PET/CT scan [low-dose F-18-FDG PET/CT or low-dose F-18-FDG PET/CT combined with diagnostic CT of any body region], or years of experience of the [most senior] signing author) was univariately associated with the presence of an RAI in the F-18-FDG PET/CT report. The hypothesis that RAIs more frequently occur when the anatomic area to which the RAI relates is not covered by a diagnostic CT scan (as part of the F-18-FDG PET/CT examination) was also rejected (P = 0.419). The total costs of all RAIs (regardless of whether they were actually performed by the referring clinicians) were (sic)23,922.21 (27,065.47),whichcorrespondstoanaverageof(sic)9.08(27,065.47), which corresponds to an average of (sic)9.08 (10.27) RAI costs per F-18-FDG PET/CT exam. The total costs of all RAIs that were actually performed by the referring clinicians were (sic)16,498.62 (18,666.46),whichcorrespondstoanaverageof(sic)6.26(18,666.46), which corresponds to an average of (sic)6.26 (7.08) RAI costs per F-18-FDG PET/CT exam. Conclusion: RAIs in F-18-FDG PET/CT reports in a European tertiary-care academic medical center without financial incentives for self-referral are infrequent, cannot be anticipated, and result in relatively low overall costs

The two perpendicular fundamentals v5v_{5} and v6v_{6} localed at 565.10234(4)565.10234 (4) and 390.54017(3)cm1390.54017 (3) cm^{-1} for F35C18O3F^{35}C\ell^{18}O_{3} and 562.24615 (5) and 390.49788(3)cm1390.49788 (3) cm^{-1} for F37C18O3F^{37}C\ell^{18}O_{3} have been analyzed in detail, Ground statc consunts, up to the H's, have been fixed to values obtained in a previous work1work^{1}. J and K values up to 98 and 84 respectively have been reached. The spectrum of v5v_{5} is dominated by a ΔK=±3\Delta K = \pm 3 resonance affecting almost all levels. This yields accurate values of the AoA_{o} and DK0D^{0}_{K} molecular constants. We shall report for these four bands a set of upper state spectroscopic constants, which allows us to reproduce the experimental data with a standard deviation of 0.0003cm10.0003 cm^{-1} on residuals

    Trim17, novel E3 ubiquitin-ligase, initiates neuronal apoptosis

    Accumulating data indicate that the ubiquitin-proteasome system controls apoptosis by regulating the level and the function of key regulatory proteins. In this study, we identified Trim17, a member of the TRIM/RBCC protein family, as one of the critical E3 ubiquitin ligases involved in the control of neuronal apoptosis upstream of mitochondria. We show that expression of Trim17 is increased both at the mRNA and protein level in several in vitro models of transcription-dependent neuronal apoptosis. Expression of Trim17 is controlled by the PI3K/Akt/GSK3 pathway in cerebellar granule neurons (CGN). Moreover, the Trim17 protein is expressed in vivo, in apoptotic neurons that naturally die during post-natal cerebellar development. Overexpression of active Trim17 in primary CGN was sufficient to induce the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis in survival conditions. This pro-apoptotic effect was abolished in Bax(-/-) neurons and depended on the E3 activity of Trim17 conferred by its RING domain. Furthermore, knock-down of endogenous Trim17 and overexpression of dominant-negative mutants of Trim17 blocked trophic factor withdrawal-induced apoptosis both in CGN and in sympathetic neurons. Collectively, our data are the first to assign a cellular function to Trim17 by showing that its E3 activity is both necessary and sufficient for the initiation of neuronal apoptosis.     Structural changes of synthetic paulingite (Na,H-ECR-18) upon dehydration and CO2 adsorption

    Funding: EPSRCThe structure of dehydrated calcined ECR-18, synthetic paulingite, topology type PAU, unit cell composition Na132H28Si512Al160O1344, has been determined by Rietveld refinement against synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction data. Upon dehydration the symmetry of Na,H-ECR-18 changes from Im3m to I 43m, with a corresponding decrease of cubic unit cell a parameter from 34.89412(1) A to 33.3488(3) A. This occurs as the framework distorts to afford closer coordination of Na+ cations by framework O atoms in 8-ring window sites of the seven cage types present. Na+ cations in 8R sites block the access of N2 molecules to the internal pore space at 77 K but CO2 adsorption at 308 K is observed, and is postulated to occur via a 'trapdoor' mechanism. In situ PXRD during CO2 adsorption at pressures up to 10 bar show reversible broadening of diffraction peaks that is attributed to local crystallographic strain.Peer reviewe
