    Dalam penelitian berkelanjutan untuk pencarian senyawa-senyawa yang bersifat insektisida daritanaman Kalanchoe (Cocor bebek) Indonesia, diperoleh hasil bahwa ekstrak metanol daun Cocorbebek (Kalanchoe daigremontiana) memberikan aktivitas insektisida yang kuat terhadap instar ke tigalarva ulat sutera (Bombyx mori). Ekstrak metanol yang diperoleh selanjutnya dipisahkan senyawasenyawanyamenggunakan partisi dengan pelarut organik dan kombinasi kolom kromatografi padasilika gel dan ODS sehingga dihasilkan satu senyawa aktif insektisida. Struktur kimia senyawa yangbersifat insektisida tersebut ditentukan dengan metoda spektroskopi dan perbandingan data spektrasenyawa analog yang telah diperoleh dari penelitian sebelumnya sehingga senyawa aktif insektisidatersebut diidentifikasikan sebagai senyawa turunan bufadienolida, daigremontianin. Daegremontianinmenunjukkan aktivitas insektisidal yang kuat terhadap instar ke tiga ulat sutera (Bombyx mori) denganLD50 0,9 μg/g diet

Oral health problems are caused by the presence of S. mutans, S. sanguinis, E. faecalis and C. albicans in the oral cavity. Synthetic anti-infective drugs have been widely used to treat oral infections, but have been reported to cause side effects and resistance. Various strategies have been implemented to overcome this problem. Synthetic anti-infective drugs have been widely used to treat oral infections, but they have been reported to cause side effects and resistance. Therefore, it is important to look for safe anti-infective alternatives. Ethnobotanical and ethnopharmacological studies suggest that Red Betel leaf (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) could be a potential source of oral anti-infectives. This review aims to discuss the pathogenesis mechanism of several microorganisms that play an important role in causing health problems, the mechanism of action of synthetic oral anti-infective drugs in inhibiting microbial growth in the oral cavity, and the potential of red betel leaf (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) as an herbal oral anti-infective drug.     Life cycle assessment of reciprocating engine component in Finland : a case study

    This paper presents the environmental impacts of reciprocating engine component (REC) made of cast iron and low-alloy steel in Finland using life cycle assessment (LCA). The study uses primary data provided by a machining shop in Finland covering cradle-to-gate with a functional unit of 1 tonne of REC. The assessment was carried out using CML-baseline, resulting in eleven impact categories emphasising global warming potential (GWP). The results show that the upstream process, including forging and foundry, to manufacture the material inputs contributes the highest among all impact categories, making up about 52–97% of the total impacts. For GWP, the total emission to manufacture 1 tonne REC is about 2926 kg CO2 eq. Sensitivity analysis indicates that material inputs of cast iron and low-alloy steel are the most critical parameters making process efficiency and technological advance prominent. This study highlights the importance of selecting suppliers, energy sources, and transportation modes.© 2023 The Author(s). Published by Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. Traditionally, the stem bark of Garcinia cowa are used as antipyretic dan antimicroba, the fruits and leaves used as expectorat, and laxative, and the roots is used for fever medicine. The variaty use are Garcinia cowa as traditional medicine is based it chemical compounds. In our continuing phytochemical investigation to found the secondary metabolite compounds of Garcinia plants found in Indonesia, The objective of this research was to find the steroid compound from the roots of Garcinia cowa. Isolation was conducted by extraction and chromatography methods. The structure of this compound was determined based on spectroscopic data from NMR and comparison with the reported data

    Antioxidant Constituents from the Bark of Aglaia eximia (Meliaceae)

    The genus Aglaia is a a rich source of different compounds with interesting biological activities. A part of our continuing search for novel biologically active compounds from Indonesia Aglaia plants, the ethyl acetate extract of bark of Aglaia eximia showed significant antioxidant activity. Four antioxidant compounds, kaempferol (1), kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnoside (2), kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucoside (3) and kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucosyl-(1→4)-α-L-rhamnoside (4) were isolated from the bark of Aglaia eximia (Meliaceae). The chemical structures of compounds 1-4 were identified on the basis of spectroscopic datas including UV, IR, NMR and MS along with by comparison with those spectra datas previously reported. All compounds showed DPPH radical-scavenging activity with IC50 values of 1.18, 6.34, 8.17, 10.63 mg/mL, respectively

    Potensi Senyawa Volatil dari Khamir untuk Mengendalikan Cercospora coffeicola : Potency of Yeast’s Volatile Compounds to Control Cercospora coffeicola

    Penyakit bercak daun cercospora yang disebabkan oleh Cercospora coffeicola merupakan salah satu penyakit utama pada tanaman kopi. Di antara metode alternatif untuk mengendalikan penyakit tanaman ialah dengan memanfaatkan senyawa volatil anticendawan yang dihasilkan oleh agens antagonis. Khamir merupakan salah satu agens yang berperan dan berpotensi menghasilkan senyawa volatil anticendawan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menentukan karakter morfologi khamir dan kemampuannya menghasilkan senyawa volatil yang bersifat anticendawan terhadap C. coffeicola. Isolasi khamir dilakukan dari tanaman kopi di beberapa lokasi di Kecamatan Cilengkrang, Kabupaten Bandung dan Kecamatan Jatinangor, Kabupaten Sumedang. Tahapan penelitian yang dilakukan terdiri atas isolasi khamir dari daun dan buah kopi, karakterisasi koloni dan sel khamir secara morfologi, dan uji kemampuan anticendawan senyawa volatil khamir secara in vitro dengan metode double dish system. Hasil penelitian didapatkan sebanyak 52 isolat khamir. Karakteristik koloni isolat khamir yang didapatkan didominasi oleh warna putih, krem, dan oranye, memiliki tepian yang rata, bergerigi hingga berfilamen serta memiliki bentuk koloni bulat hingga tidak beraturan. Karakteristik mikroskopis dari isolat khamir yang didapatkan menunjukkan bentuk yang bervariasi, yaitu bulat, bundar telur, jorong, bulat telur, serta memanjang dengan ukuran berkisar 2.59-18.13 × 1.23-7.77 µm. Seluruh isolat khamir yang didapatkan mampu menghambat pertumbuhan C. coffeicola melalui aktivitas senyawa volatil anticendawan dengan tingkat penghambatan berkisar antara 11.85% dan 79.26%. Potency of Yeast’s Volatile Compounds to Control Cercospora coffeicola Cercospora leaf spot caused by Cercospora coffeicola is a major disease on coffee plants. Antifungal volatiles produced by some antagonistic agents can be useful in biological control approach of this pathogen. Some yeasts have been reported to produce antifungal volatiles and may have the potency as antagonistic agents against fungal pathogens. This research was aimed to determine the morphological characteristics of the yeast isolates and their ability to suppress C. coffeicola by producing antifungal volatiles. The yeasts were isolated from coffee leaves and berries grown in several location at Kecamatan Cilengkrang, Kabupaten Bandung and Kecamatan Jatinangor, Kabupaten Sumedang. The research was started by isolation of yeasts and followed by morphological characterization of yeasts’ colony. The potency of the volatiles produced by the antagonistic isolates were tested in vitro using double dish system. As many as 52 yeast isolates were obtained. The dominant colors of the yeasts colonies on PDA were white, cream, and orange, with smooth, serrated, and filamentous edges. The colony shapes were round to irregular. The microscopic observation showed that the cells were round, ovate, and elongated, with the size ranged around 2.59-18.13 × 1.23-7.77 µm. Those yeasts isolates were able to suppress the growth of C. coffeicola by the activity of antifungal volatile compound, with the inhibition level of 11.85% to 79.26%. The results showed that all the isolates were capable to inhibit the in vitro growth of C. coffeicola

    Dysoxylum merupakan salah satu genus yang memiliki metabolit sekunder dan aktivitas yang beragam, salah satu aktivitas yang menarik adalah mampu bertindak sebagai agen P-gp pada sel kanker payudara MCF-7. Kulit batang D.alliaceum dimaserasi berturut–turut dengan n-heksana, etil asetat dan metanol. Ekstrak n-heksan dipisahkan dan dimurnikan dengan berbagai teknik kromatografi dipandu dengan analisis kromatografi lapis tipis diperoleh dua senyawa stigmast-5-en-3β-ol (1), stigmasterol (2). Struktur kimia senyawa tersebut telah ditetapkan berdasarkan intrepretasi data-data spektroskopi dan dibandingkan dengan data spektra dari penelitian sebelumnya. Semua isolat senyawa dievaluasi aktivitas sitotoksiknya terhadap sel kanker payudara MCF-7. Senyawa 1 dan 2 dirujuk dari literatur menunjukkan aktivitas kuat dengan IC50 8,65 μg/mL

    Bruguiera gymnorrhiza merupakan salah satu tumbuhan mangrove seperti sepsies mangrove Rhizophoraceae lainnyapenghasil senyawa bioaktif berupa metabolit sekunder yang memiliki potensi sebagai obat tradisional dan banyakditemukan di wilayah tropis, tetapi pemanfaatan yang tidak terukur bisa bersifat toksik terhadap sel. Penelitian inidilakukan untuk mengetahui efek sitotoksisitas ekstrak etanol dan n-heksana daun B. gymnorrhiza dengan Akar Alliumasay. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif eksperimental dengan RAL, faktor tunggal ekstrak etanoldengan empat konsentrasi 125, 250, 500 dan 1000 ppm, serta kontrol negatif akuades dan positif EMS dan 3 ulangan dandianalisis dengan Anava (α.05) hasil signifikan diuji Duncan (α.05). Dengan prosedur yang sama dilakukan pada ekstrakn-Heksana. Analisis fitokimia dilakukan untuk mengetahui kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder, diketahui bahwa kandungan ekstrak etanol B. gymnorrhiza adalah senyawa dari kelompok fenolik, flavonoid, triterpenoid, tannin, danalkaloid, sedangkan senyawa metabolit yang terkandung dalam ekstrak n-heksana adalah steroid dan triterpenoid. Hasilpenelitian menunjukkan bahwa ektrak etanol dan n- heksana konsentrasi 125 - 1000 ppm mampu menurunkan indeksmitosis dibawah 50 % yaitu antara 45,45 sampai 39,79 % masuk kedalam katagori sublethal, berbeda nyata dengan kontrolpositip yang menurunkan indeks mitosis dibawah 22% yaitu 10, 67 % termasuk katagori lethal
