Helena Kolody, carbon & diamond - an illustrated biography tells the life of Helena Kolody, from her very insertion in literature, as it questions her identity, the world surrounding her, and the meaning of her existence. That is equivalent to saying that in her poetry there is the intermingling of reflections and feelings that derive from personal and localized material. From the railroad station to the tube-shaped bus stops; from Ukraine to downtown Curitiba; from Paisagem interior to Reika; from the nineteenth century to the twenty-first century, Helena Kolody's literature guarantees her presence in the consolidation of the art/life binomial. The portrait of the author ends up by also being made up of an abundant iconographic apparatus, of the over five hundred critical texts listed, and of her complete work. The person, although deliberately accepting her own fragmentation, reveals herself in her entireness
Author Correction : Common variants in Alzheimer's disease and risk stratification by polygenic risk scores
Genetic discoveries of Alzheimer's disease are the drivers of our understanding, and together with polygenetic risk stratification can contribute towards planning of feasible and efficient preventive and curative clinical trials. We first perform a large genetic association study by merging all available case-control datasets and by-proxy study results (discovery n = 409,435 and validation size n = 58,190). Here, we add six variants associated with Alzheimer's disease risk (near APP, CHRNE, PRKD3/NDUFAF7, PLCG2 and two exonic variants in the SHARPIN gene). Assessment of the polygenic risk score and stratifying by APOE reveal a 4 to 5.5 years difference in median age at onset of Alzheimer's disease patients in APOE ɛ4 carriers. Because of this study, the underlying mechanisms of APP can be studied to refine the amyloid cascade and the polygenic risk score provides a tool to select individuals at high risk of Alzheimer's disease

Baldomero Sanín Cano (1861-1957). From Rionegro to Bogotá: a journey to the encounter with intellectual cosmopolitism
Based on the theory of Randal Collins' interaction rituals, his formative journey is closely followed and the social and intellectual networks to which the author belongs are traced. With support in the generational change proposed by Karl Mannheim, the topics under debate and the positions that the character, framed in his generation, assumes throughout the last third of the 19th century in the midst of the hectic political, economic and cultural environment of a nation just in the process of consolidation. Regarding the intellectual, its definition and social function, the ideas of Carlos Altamirano and Mannheim are accepted. The concept of nation and its dynamics is understood in terms of “imagined community” by Benedict Anderson, “lettered city” by Ángel Rama and “bourgeois city” by José Luis Romero. The biographical aspect is mainly guided by François Dosse and Gilberto Loaiza Cano. The press is the largest primary source, but all types of documents are used. The investigation clarifies aspects such as the family origin of the character, his early training and his initial forays into intellectual life. It identifies points of crisis and key turns in the outline of the ideas of the Antioquian author who, in clear disagreement with the Hispano-Americanism imposed by the Regeneration government, opts for paths that lead to artistic, literary modernism, and in part, the political, since with that criterion he participated in the government of General Rafael Reyes. Additionally, several unknown articles by the author are rescued, thus expanding the analysis base for future studies of his work.ColcienciasDoctoradoDoctor en Ciencias Humanas y SocialesHisoria IntelectualÁrea Curricular de Ciencias Humanas y Sociale

Risk factors for bloodstream infections due to carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales: a nested case-control-control study
Background: Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) bloodstream infections (BSIs) are a major threat to patients. To date, data on risk factors have been limited, with low internal and external validity. In this multicentre study, risk factors for CRE BSI were determined by comparison with two control groups: patients with carbapenem-susceptible Enterobacterales (CSE) BSI, and patients without Enterobacterales infection (uninfected patients). Methods: A multicentre, case-control-control study was nested in a European prospective cohort study on CRE (EURECA). CRE BSI:CSE BSI matching was 1:1, CRE BSI:Uninfected patients matching was 1:3, based on hospital, ward and length of stay. Conditional logistic regression was applied. Results: From March 2016 to November 2018, 73 CRE BSIs, 73 CSE BSIs and 219 uninfected patients were included from 18 European hospitals. For CRE versus CSE BSI, previous CRE colonization/infection [incidence rate ratio (IRR) 7.32; 95% CI 1.65-32.38) increased the risk. For CRE versus uninfected controls, independent risk factors included: older age (IRR 1.03; 95% CI 1.01-1.06), patient referral (long-term care facility: IRR 7.19; 95% CI 1.51-34.24; acute care hospital: IRR 5.26; 95% CI 1.61-17.11), previous colonization/infection with other MDR organisms (MDROs) (IRR 9.71; 95% CI 2.33-40.56), haemodialysis (IRR 8.59; 95% CI 1.82-40.53), invasive procedures (IRR 5.66; 95% CI 2.11-15.16), and β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combinations (IRR 3.92; 95% CI 1.68-9.13) or third/fourth generation cephalosporin (IRR 2.75; 95% CI 1.06-7.11) exposure within 3 months before enrolment. Conclusions: Evidence of previous CRE colonization/infection was a major risk factor for carbapenem resistance among Enterobacterales BSI. Compared with uninfected patients, evidence of previous MDRO colonization/infection and healthcare exposure were important risk factors for CRE BSI. Targeted screening, infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship should focus on these high-risk patients. © 2024 The Author(s).
