    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Digital Literacy Assistance for Women at Madrasah Technology Al-Khwarizmi Pangalengan, Bandung Regency

    This study aims to analyze the process of digital literacy education and assistance for women at Madrasah Teknologi Al-Khwarizmi Pangalengan, Bandung Regency. Specifically, the research focuses on four aspects of digital literacy: digital skills, digital culture, digital ethics, and digital safety. The analysis uses a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, FGD, LGD, and documentation. Meanwhile, the mentoring process is carried out using an asset-based community development (ABCD) approach. The results of the research and mentoring show that the Madrasah of Technology Al-Khwarizmi is a non-formal educational institution in rural areas that focuses on providing understanding and assistance in digital literacy, especially for women. In addition, digital literacy assistance for women is carried out through increasing computer skills as a preventive measure against digital threats, positive cultural habituation by studying and reading the Qur'an in internet activities, strengthening digital ethics through family counseling and moral development for parents and community involvement and partnership networks in maintaining internet awareness

    Dakwah merupakan tugas suci yang diperintahkan Allah Swt kepada setiap umat-Nya sebagai sarana untuk menyebarkan risalah Islam. Misi utama dakwah Islam ialah mewujudkan peradaban manusia yang berakhlak mulia, yakni sebuah kehidupan manusia yang berlandaskan pada al-qur’an dan as-sunnah. Dakwah dapat dilakukan dengan beragam cara disesuaikan dengan konteks objek dakwah di lapangan. Perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi saat ini telah mengubah pola pikir para juru dakwah dalam mentransmisikan ajaran-ajaran Islam. Sebagian besar umat Islam berpartisipasi aktif dalam memanfaatkan perkembangan teknologi tersebut sebagai sarana pengembangan dan penyebaran ajaran Islam, sebagai media dalam mendeskripsikan Islam yang universal. Internet, sebagai salah satu media baru memberikan ruang terbuka bagi manusia. Internet telah mengubah pola aktivitas dan interaksi manusia dalam berbagai bidang, baik politik, ekonomi, pendidikan, budaya, maupun agama. Dalam konteks agama, internet ikut mempengaruhi pola komunikasi agama secara signifikan. Teknologi internet dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif media dakwah Islam. Munculnya konsep dakwah melalui internet, misalnya digitalisasi dakwah, dakwah online, atau cyber dakwah memberikan ruang baru dalam konteks komunikasi agama. Upaya dakwah Islam melalui berbagai media kontemporer saat ini cukup menarik untuk di kaji sebagai ragam khazanah dalam pergulatan pemikiran dakwah Islam. Yasraf Amir Piliang mencoba mendeskripsikan keterkaitan teknologi internet, digital, virtual dan ruang cyberspace dengan wacana keberagamaan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tema-tema pokok yang terkandung dalam buku Bayang-Bayang Tuhan: Agama dan Imajinasi, makna yang terkandung dalam buku Bayang-Bayang Tuhan: Agama dan Imajiasi, dan isi pesan dakwah dalam buku Bayang-Bayang Tuhan: Agama dan Imajinasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian analisis isi (Content Analysis). Dalam operasionalnya, data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan studi pustaka, mengklasifikasikan data sesuai objek penelitian, menafsirkan data yang telah diklasifikasi, dan menarik kesimpulan. Metode analisis isi sifatnya kualitatif, sehingga mengandalkan penafsiran peneliti terhadap teks. Dari hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tema-tema pokok yang terkandung dalam buku Bayang-Bayang Tuhan: Agama dan Imajinasi berhubungan dengan aqidah, syari’ah dan akhlak. Selanjutnya makna pesan dakwah yang terkandung dalam buku tersebut yakni mengenai ketauhidan, pengendalian diri, toleransi, kesederhanaan dan wacana cyberdakwah. Adapun isi pesan dakwah dalam buku tersebut yakni keharusan menjaga ketauhidan dan kreativitas berpikir, bersikap sederhana dan mengendalikan hawa nafsu, pentingnya bersikap toleran dan menjaga perdamaian, pentingnya bersikap sederhana serta pentingnya melakukan dakwah Islam

    INDONESIA : Televisi merupakan salah satu media dakwah yang dipandang memiliki pengaruh signifikan dalam proses penyampaian pesan dakwah. Dakwah di media televisi melibatkan berbagai pihak dengan proses pengelolaan dan mekanisme tertentu yang didasarkan pada kebutuhan pasar (penonton dan pengiklan) maupun mengikuti logika media massa (rating and share, durasi, popularitas dan publisitas). Penggunaan televisi sebagai media dakwah tidak terlepas dari adanya pengaruh budaya populer dalam kehidupan manusia. Dalam konteks dakwah, salah satu wujud pengaruh budaya populer ini dapat dilihat dari adanya komersialisasi dan komodifikasi dakwah Islam baik terhadap da’i, maudhu maupun madh’u. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui upaya komodifikasi dakwah yang dilakukan dalam siaran televisi. Penelitian dilakukan untuk menjawab permasalahan bagaimana identitas da’i dan konstruksi pesan dakwah (maudhu) dikemas dalam program dakwah di televisi. Penelitian dilakukan pada program religi Islam Itu Indah di media Trans TV. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode Analisis Wacana Kritis. Hal ini untuk menggambarkan upaya komodifikasi dakwah dalam siaran televisi sesuai dengan data-data penelitian. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik observasi, dokumentasi, wawancara dan studi pustaka. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori tentang komodifikasi agama dari Vincent Mosco (2009) bahwa komodifikasi agama dalam siaran televisi dilakukan pada tiga aspek yakni pada sisi pesan (content), khalayak (audience), dan tenaga kerja. Teori tentang budaya populer dari John Storey (2009) bahwa budaya populer merupakan budaya massa, budaya yang disukai banyak orang, dikonsumsi melalui produksi massa dan secara komersial. Teori tentang televisi dari Raymond William (2009) bahwa televisi merupakan salah satu wujud artifisial perkembangan teknologi dan informasi yang dapat ditinjau dari dua sisi, yakni sebagai produk yang mendeterminisme teknologi (determinisme teknologis) dan sebagai gejala sosial (sympthomatic technology) yang memberikan pengaruh dalam kehidupan manusia. Teori tentang dakwah televisi dari Arie Setyaningrum (2015) bahwa dakwah televisi bersandar pada simbol, daya tarik dan pemaknaan nilai citra. Teori Representasi Media dari Stuart Hall (2011) bahwa representasi digunakan untuk memaknai suatu objek atau peristiwa. Teori Analisis Wacana Kritis dari Teun Van Dijk (2008) bahwa CDA dilakukan pada struktur teks, konteks dan analisis sosial dalam sebuah wacana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komodifikasi dakwah pada program “Islam Itu Indah” dilakukan pada sisi da’i dan maudhu. Pada sisi da’i, pemiihan da’i/narasumber ditentukan dengan mempertimbangkan kriteria tertentu yang meliputi unifikasi (karakter pembeda), daya jual (popularitas dan publisitas), keterampilan dan kecakapan berbicara, serta kualifikasi keilmuan. Representasi da’i pada program ini dilakukan dengan memperhatikan rating and share, performa dan sasaran audiens. Pada sisi pesan (content), komodifikasi ditemukan dalam proses penentuan tema dan pola pengemasan acara dalam menyampaikan pesan. Penentuan tema ditentukan oleh tim acara dengan memperhatikan beberapa kriteria tertentu, meliputi current issue, rating and share, dan minat audiens. Sedangkan pola pengemasan pesan dilakukan dengan memperhatikan durasi, pengembangan acara melalui inovasi, dan segmentasi pasar/audiens. Dalam konteks Analisis Wacana Kritis hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa tema pokok kajian dominan berkenaan dengan akhlak dan muamalah, skema penyampaian pesan meliputi, tausyiah, kajian hadits, pembacaan ayat al-qur’an, kisah hikmah, kisah inspiratif, dan kisah teladan. Pesan disampaikan dengan menggunakan bahasa yang praktis, sederhana, tidak kaku dan mudah dicerna. ENGLISH : Television is one of the media propaganda that is deemed to have a significant influence in the process of delivering a message of propaganda. Da'wah in the television media involving various stakeholders with specific management processes and mechanisms that are based on the needs of the market (audience and advertisers) and follow the logic of the mass media (rating and share, the duration, the popularity and publicity). The use of television as a medium of propaganda can not be separated from the influence of popular culture in human life. In the context of propaganda, one of manifestation of the influence of popular culture can be seen from the commercialization and commodification of Islamic propaganda both to preachers, maudhu nor madh'u. This study aims to determine the commodification propaganda efforts undertaken in a television broadcast. The study was conducted to answer the question of how identity construction preachers and propaganda messages (maudhu) packed in propaganda programs on television. The study was conducted on Islamic religious programme “Islam itu indah” In Trans TV. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach and methods of Critical Discourse Analysis. This is to illustrate the commodification propaganda effort in a television broadcast according to research data. Data collection techniques used in this study is the observation, documentation, interviews, and literature. The theory used in this research is the theory about the commodification of religion from Vincent Mosco (2009) that the commodification of religion in a television broadcast made on three aspects namely on the side of the message (content), audience (audience), and labor. Theories about the popular culture of John Storey (2009) that popular culture is mass culture, a culture which is favored by many people, consumed through mass production and commercially. The Theory on television of Raymond William (2009) that television is one form of artificial development of technology and information that can be viewed from two sides, as a product that mendeterminisme technology (determinism technological) and as a social phenomenon (sympthomatic technology) that influence in the human life. Dakwah on television theory of Arie Setyaningrum (2015) that dakwah on television based on symbols, interest and the meaningful of imagologies. Media representation theory of Stuart Hall (2011) that the representation used for meaning an object or event. Critical Discourse Analysis Theory of Teun Van Dijk (2008) that the CDA is done on the structure of the text, context and social analysis of the discourse. The results showed that the commodification of propaganda on the program "Islam itu indah" made on the preacher and maudhu side. On the side of, the election preacher / resource is determined by considering certain criteria which include unification (distinguishing characteristics), tradability (popularity and publicity), skills and abilities to speak, as well as the scientific qualifications. Representation preachers on this program conducted with respect to rating and share, performance and target audience. On the side of the message (content), commodification found in the process of determining the themes and patterns of packaging event in conveying the message. Determination theme is determined by the team event with respect to some certain criteria, including current offering, rating and share, and audience interest. While the pattern of message packaging conducted with respect to the duration, event development through innovation, and market segmentation / audience. In the context of Critical Discourse Analysis research found that the main theme of the dominant assessment with regard to morals and muamalah, the scheme covers the delivery of messages, tausyiah, the study of hadith, recitation of Qur'an, wisdom stories, inspirational stories, and the story of exemplary.     This study aims to determine the construction of preachers in a television broadcast. The study was conducted to answer the question of how identity construction preachers and how preachers selection criteria in propaganda programs on television. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach and methods of Critical Discourse Analysis Teun Van Dijk Models. There are three element of Critical Discourse Analysis Methods : Text, Social Cognition and Social Context. Data collection techniques used in this study is the observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the commodification of propaganda on the program "Islam itu indah" made on the preacher and maudhu side. On the side of, the election preacher / resource is determined by considering certain criteria which include unification (distinguishing characteristics), tradability (popularity and publicity), skills and abilities to speak, as well as the scientific qualifications. Penelitian diarahkan untuk menggali aspek komodifikasi yang berkaitan dengan kriteria pemilihan dai’dan konstruksi daí dalam program televisi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis wacana kritis (Critical Discourse Analysis) model Teun Van Dijk. Terdapat tiga elemen dalam Analisis Wacana Kritis Teun Van Dijk, yaitu teks, kognisi sosial dan konteks sosial. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komodifikasi dakwah pada program “Islam Itu Indah†dilakukan pada sisi da’i dan maudhu.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    The tabligh language of the millenial generation in social media: Analysis of popular Islamic account framing

    Purpose - This study aims to analyze the construction of tabligh language based on religious moderation in social media. The research was conducted by taking the research object of Popular Islamic accounts on three social media platforms, namely Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. Specifically, the research is directed at studying expressive, conventional, rhetorical logic, and religious moderation tabligh language negotiations for the millennial generation. An interpretive paradigm was chosen in this study.Method - Qualitative approach through the Gamson and Modigliani model framing analysis method was chosen to analyze the packaging pattern of the tabligh language. Data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation techniques. Furthermore, it is analyzed through three stages: reduction, display, and verification.Result  -  The study results conclude that the expressive logic of the tabligh language contained in the Popular Islam account is related to the normativity and actuality of Islamic teachings. The conventional logic set by the Popular Islam account is based on normative arguments, actual arguments, opinions of Islamic leaders, metaphors or parables, and phenomena that are trending in society. Rhetorical logic is carried out by using language style, communication principles, appeals and message organizational structures, and visualizing messages in a way that links symbols, images, and text. The negotiation of religious moderation discourse is packaged by showing the face of Islam on two sides, namely the doctrinal side and the actual side. Popular Islam places historical, empirical, and actual religious reality as the core issue of Islamic ideas. Moderate and accurate packaging tools are presented both within the framework of framing and reasoning of Popular Islamic accounts.Implication – The implications of this research relate to the importance of building theological, technological, and humanist awareness in preparing the infrastructure and ecosystem of da'wah resources to face the era of digital industrialization.Originality - This study analyzes the phenomenon of how the choice of diction and tabligh language style regarding religious messages based on religious moderation is presented in a virtual space.***Tujuan - Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konstruksi bahasa tabligh berdasarkan moderasi beragama di media sosial. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengambil objek penelitian akun Islami Populer di tiga platform media sosial yaitu Facebook, YouTube, dan Instagram. Secara spesifik, penelitian diarahkan untuk mengkaji negosiasi bahasa tabligh ekspresif, konvensional, logika retoris, dan moderasi agama bagi generasi milenial. Paradigma interpretif dipilih dalam penelitian ini.Metode - Pendekatan kualitatif melalui metode analisis framing model Gamson dan Modigliani dipilih untuk menganalisis pola pengemasan bahasa tabligh. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Selanjutnya dianalisis melalui tiga tahap yaitu reduksi, display, dan verifikasi.Hasil - Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa logika ekspresif bahasa tabligh yang terdapat dalam akun Islam Populer berkaitan dengan normativitas dan aktualitas ajaran Islam. Logika konvensional yang ditetapkan oleh akun Islam Populer didasarkan pada argumen normatif, argumen aktual, pendapat para pemimpin Islam, metafora atau perumpamaan, dan fenomena yang sedang tren di masyarakat. Logika retoris dilakukan dengan menggunakan gaya bahasa, prinsip komunikasi, daya tarik dan struktur organisasi pesan, dan memvisualisasikan pesan dengan cara menghubungkan simbol, gambar, dan teks. Negosiasi wacana moderasi keagamaan dikemas dengan menampilkan wajah Islam dalam dua sisi, yaitu sisi doktrinal dan sisi aktual. Islam kerakyatan menempatkan realitas keagamaan historis, empiris, dan aktual sebagai isu inti gagasan-gagasan Islam.     Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
