Fragments of the self: self-awareness, identity, and heteronymy in the works of Fernando Pessoa
This thesis explores the theme of self-awareness in the works of Fernando Pessoa, with a particular focus on the relashionship between identity and heteronymy. Through the creation of his heteronymys, Pessoa addresses fundamental questions related to the fragmentation of the self and the complexity of human identity. The analysis centers on the multifaceted nature of the author, investigating how each heteronym represents a distinct aspect of his inner world and an attempt to understand and transcend the limits of individuality
Frequency of early vascular aging and associated risk factors among an adult population in Latin America : the OPTIMO study
The main objective was to estimate the frequency of early vascular aging (EVA) in a sample of subjects from Latin America, with emphasis in young adults. We included 1416 subjects from 12 countries in Latin America who provided information about lifestyle, cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF), and anthropometrics. We measured pulse wave velocity (PWV) as a marker of arterial stiffness, and blood pressure (BP) using an oscillometric device (Mobil-O-Graph). To determine the frequency of EVA, we used multiple linear regression to estimate each subject’s PWV expected for his/her age and systolic BP, and compared with observed values to obtain standardized residuals (z-scores). We defined EVA when z-score was ≥1.96. Finally, a multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to determine baseline characteristics associated with EVA. Mean age was 49.9 ± 15.5 years, male gender was 50.3%. Mean PWV was 7.52 m/s (SD 1.97), mean systolic BP was 125.3 mmHg (SD 16.7) and mean diastolic BP was 78.9 mmHg (SD 12.2). The frequency of EVA was 5.7% in the total population, 9.8% in adults of 40 years or less and 18.7% in those 30 years or less. In these young adults, multiple logistic regression analyses demonstrated that dyslipidemia and hypertension showed an independent association with EVA, and smoking a borderline association (p = 0.07). In conclusion, the frequency of EVA in a sample from Latin America was around 6%, with higher rates in young adults. These results would support the search of CVRF and EVA during early adulthood

Fernando Henrique Cardoso e o pensamento político brasileiro
Abstract : The construction of Fernando Henrique Cardoso?s legacy has been developed based on the mark of structuring ruptures and dichotomies, characteristics that are both articulated around the idea of the transition from the intellectual to the political activity, in a process that reinforces strong features of the Brazilian political imagination. Anchored in a criticism of this view, this study investigates what the process of formation of the author?s legacy developed until the present moment reveal about the forms through which the ?Brazilian political thought? is produced and reinvented, or, in other words, what his personal intellectual trajectory represents in relation to the collective thought trajectory designated by this expression. Two main interpretative theses are tested throughout this work: the first one is that the continuity and the unity between the several moments of Cardoso?s intellectual trajectory (denied by the approaches that, until the present moment, have been systematizing his legacy) can be reconstructed and recuperated if the emphasis of the analysis lies in the political specificity of his writings - assuming that both the reconstructing and the recuperation, obviously, do not fail to consider possible inconsistencies, incoherences and changes in the beliefs of the author throughout his trajectory; and second , that such political thought , without disregarding other sources generally labeled as ?universal? , is structured from a selective, systematic and continuous dialogue with some of the main forms of interpretation of the policy in the country, this dialogue , on the one hand , makes it possible to show the existence of a worldview to act as ?common thread? for all of his thought (giving him a sense of coherence), and on the other, to understand the impact of this ressignificador thinking about such matrices. The work is organized in three parts: in the first, the field of the Brazilian political thought is theoretical and methodologically questioned; in the second part, the specificity of the author?s political reflection is discussed based on two different moments (the establishment and the consolidation of his political beliefs); and, in the third part, in an attempt of approximating the two previous parts, the specificity of the insertion of the author?s political thought in the Brazilian political thought field is discussed, which is based on two variables: the filiations and the receptions
The State of Open Data: Histories and Horizons.
A decade ago, open data was more or less just an idea, emerging as a rough point of consensus
for action among pro-democracy practitioners, internet entrepreneurs, open source advocates,
civic technology developers, and open knowledge campaigners. Calls for “open data now”
offered a powerful critique of the way in which governments and other institutions were hoarding
valuable data paid for by taxpayers – data that if made accessible, could be reused in a myriad of
different ways to bring social and economic benefits and democratic change.
Ten years on, open data is much more than just an idea. First, it was a movement, and then a
label applied to vast quantities of data from genomics and geospatial data to land registers,
contracting, and parliamentary voting. Today, it’s a term found on government portals, in global
policy documents, and in job descriptions. Thousands of businesses around the world owe their
existence or their growth to the release of open government data, and hundreds of civil society
organisations have embraced open data as a key element of their social change toolkit.
For a while, it may have been possible to identify a cohesive open data movement united by
shared interests, working simply to gain access to more data and establishing the principle that
government data should be open. However, as the movement has evolved, stakeholders have
turned their focus to linking data use to specific needs and to questions of how to quantify the
return on investment in advancing open data. Within this fast growing and organic open data
movement, an ever-increasing number of networks and communities of practice have become
more diverse, fluid, and cross-sectoral.
So what is the open data movement today? What has it achieved over the last decade?
Answering these questions is at the core of this publication. It is a collective effort to explore what
we can learn from the past, to identify how to build on the investments made to date, and to look
at how open data policy and practice have started to address challenges such as mainstreaming
and sectorisation.
Exploring these questions is not just important for historical purposes. It can yield important
insights on how best to move forward. This publication is also an invitation to identify the issues
that may sustain this broad coalition into the future. We believe that a deep reflection about the
movement, even a reflection on whatever cracks have appeared or on the gaps between promise
and reality, provides a vital opportunity to discuss where realignment and rethinking are needed. This collection of essays is the product of an 18-month journey that has brought together
almost 70 authors, supported by over 200 other contributors, to produce 37 short chapters on the
current state of open data from a range of different perspectives, offering the most comprehensive
attempt to explore the breadth and depth of the open data field to date
New mutation of Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome
Comentários: O défice cognitivo e as alterações do exame objectivo sugeriram SRT. A mutação c2803c>T (p.Gln935X)
To investigate the exportation of Brazilian micro-region#s beef (cattle meat) the study used the augmented gravity model with sample correction and heterogeneous firms of Helpman, Melitz and Rubinstein, 2008, (HMR), for only one commodity. Using a data from the exports of 43 micro-regions to the ports of Paranaguá, Santos and Itajaí to Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Middle East between the years 2001 to 2009, a panel was set up with 3.843 observations. The coefficients showed that time, ship-in costs and quantity of containers traded in ports are important barriers to Brazilian exports as well as road infrastructure. Moreover properly planned investments of around R 140 million in meat trade
[EN] An approach to Fernando Ostiz's creative work-concerning not only the outcome of his scientific work, but also the way in which he developed it according to the social and cultural context he lived in-is proposed. Consequently, the contrast established by the author between the Cuban savant's image and the Spanish anthropologist Julio Caro Baroja is quite interesting. Peer reviewe
