Abstract: Women’s representation in politics in Indonesia has been secured despite inequal percentage compared to the men. For instance, the results of the 2019 legislative elections for women only accounted for 20.5% or 118 seats of the 560 existing seats. On the other hand, it seems that the performance of women in parliament is also questionable. Thus, this research was conducted to find out and understand how was the performance of women politicians, their contribution to women empowerment and the obstacles they faced. This descriptive-explorative qualitative research was conducted in Ponorogo as a district in the former Residency of Madiun which always gets the highest number of women politicians in each elections until 2019. The research subjects were selected using purposive sampling toward women legislature members of DPRD Ponorogo. Meanwhile, the data was obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. Furthermore, for the data analysis the author employed Harvard gender analysis and used data triangulation as one of the data verification techniques. The results of this study concluded that the performance of women legislative members was less satisfactory. This can be seen from 3 aspects; responsiveness, accountability and effectiveness. In addition, some obstacles they faced are (a) the strong patriarchal culture in the legislative environment, (b) weak coordination among women legislative members, (c) patterns of relationships that are built on a transactional basis, and (d) politically charged programs

This article attempts to show women's education reality in pesantren, par-ticularly pesantren that administers the two institutions at the same time, the education for men and for women. This is certainly different from those car-ry out the education specific for women. Indonesia has started to open edu-cational opportunities for women at the time of R.A. Kartini, in which the previous women education was limited by the culture. The spirit to obtain education that equal with men was stated in her letters. Kartini had inspired some Indonesian women to get education as men. Later, some women who pioneered education for women appeared such as Rahmah el-Yunusiyah, Rangkayo Rasuna Said, Dewi Sartika etc. Each of them established a special school for girls with different studies taught.

This study aims to analyze the concept of gender equality in Islam based on the perspective of the Qur'an. The method used is qualitative with a thematic interpretation approach, through a literature review of Qur'anic verses, hadiths, and classical and contemporary scholars' thoughts on the relationship between women and men. The results showed that the Qur'an emphasizes the principle of equality in rights and responsibilities between men and women, despite contextual differences in roles. The concept of gender justice in Islam is oriented towards a balance of rights and obligations without demeaning either party. This study emphasizes that the gender movement in Islam must be based on the values of the Qur'an and Islamic objectives, thus producing harmonious and fair relationships in social life

The relation of Islam as a religion and the notion of human right has attracted a lot of attention both from the activists and the academics. One of the academics that has paid a good deal of attention to this issue is an Egyptian scholar named Fathi Osman. This paper is dedicated to explore his ideas, suggestions and conceptions on the issue at hand. It contends that Osman is mainly concerned with the synthesis of Islamic concept and the notion of human right adopted by the international community. The paper exposes Osman?s strategies in pursuing the synthesis, which begins by careful investigation on both Islamic and modern concepts of human right, then followed by identifying the strength and weakness of each concept. This strategy is aimed at gaining a clear idea about how a new concept of human right should be formulated. The paper will also ask whether Osman?s synthesis is both practical and conceptual. By practical, we mean a concept which rooted in the real experiences as far as human rights are concerned. And by conceptual, we mean whether Osman?s ideas are derived from the theoretical analysis of both Islamic sources and the sources of modern idea on human rights

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

This research aimed to explore the motives that encouraged Muslim entrepreneurs to make business decisions in running businesses, and also to examined the effects of their religions as well as the business logics they used toward their trading behaviors. The subjects of this research were the Muslim entrepreneurs running the business of apparel convection in Botoran, Tulungagung. This research used qualitative method with phenomenological approach. The data extracting technique was conducted by documentation, observation, and interviews. The results showed that Muslim traders based their business behaviors on the consideration of rational choices. Such behaviors were manifested in the forms of: choosing to partition their houses as the place of production (home factory); choosing to procure capital through the Chinese; choosing temporary sewing workers; choosing to replace the procurement of computer embroidery machines; dun-dunan rego (decreasing the costs); nembak (lighting); and reluctant to establish a cooperative to accommodate them. Meanwhile, religion, morals, and other values are not considered by them in running their business. The implication of the findings is that religious and economic motives always appeared in a person's business processes. The dominance of one of them was determined by the environment and experience. Sharia financial institutions in the vicinity, such as Sharia Banks and BMT (Baitul Mal wa Tamwil, a sharia-based microfinance institution or cooperative), as well as Islamic organizations, with the right kinship approach, were required to be present to pay attention to business development and community empowerment
