Networked Refugees
Almost 68.5 million refugees in the world today live in a protection gap, the chasm between protections stipulated in the Geneva Convention and the abrogation of those responsibilities by aid agencies. With dwindling humanitarian aid, how do refugee communities solve collective dilemmas? In Networked Refugees, Nadya Hajj finds that Palestinian refugees utilize information communication technology platforms to motivate reciprocity—a cooperative action marked by the mutual exchange of favors and services—and informally seek aid and connection with their transnational diaspora community. Based on surveys conducted with Palestinians throughout the diaspora, interviews with those inside the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp in Lebanon, and data pulled from online community spaces, these findings pushback against the cynical idea that online organizing is fruitless, emphasizing instead the productivity of these digital networks. “With nuance, sensitivity, and fascinating connections across diverse social settings, Nadya Hajj offers a blueprint for how transnational networks can motivate reciprocity to solve communal problems.” WENDY PEARLMAN, author of Violence, Nonviolence, and the Palestinian National Movement “In this remarkable book, Hajj deploys her considerable theoretical and empirical gifts. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in understanding refugee experience.” TAREK MASOUD, coauthor of The Arab Spring: Pathways of Repression and Reform “Through stunning ethnographic and survey research, Hajj provides enormous insights into the way Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and the diaspora not only resist the destruction of their community but have found new ways of rebuilding it, challenging us to think differently about Palestinian refugees and their reimagined futures.” SARA ROY, Harvard Universit

Environmental Issues-based Discovery Learning to Enhance Metacognitive Awareness and Students’ Higher-Order Thinking Skills
This study aimed to describe students' metacognitive awareness and higher-order thinking skills through environmental issues-discovery. The research design was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design. The data were collected through 52 Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) statements and the critical thinking test. The results show that the levels of students' metacognitive awareness are undeveloped (18 Percent), at-risk (8 Percent), poor (15 Percent), developed (22 Percent), high (14 Percent), and excellent (23 Percent). The discovery learning model significantly affects students' higher-order thinking skills (significant value of 0.000 with a 0.05 confidence level). Therefore, teachers are advised to utilize the surrounding environment in the discovery learning model to improve higher-order thinking skills and metacognitive awareness. Studies on other learning models need to be carried out to add references in organizing the learning process
Efforts to Improve Critical Thinking Skills with Scientific and Gender-Based Liveworksheets
Critical thinking is one of the skills that must be possessed by 21st century students. One of the efforts developed by the Indonesian government is to mandate teachers to use a scientific approach in the learning process. In line with the development of information and communication technology in the world, it is recommended that the implementation of learning be implemented using a hybrid learning method. The purpose of this study is to describe the effectiveness ofscientific liveworksheets and gender in honing students' critical thinking skills. There were 59 students who were used as samples and consisted of 25 students and 34 students with the topic of learning the interaction of living things with their environment. The pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design was used to support the quasi-experimental research method. Data were collected by means of critical thinking skills tests, questionnaires on the implementation of the learning stages, and response questionnaires. All data were then analyzed by ANCOVA test. The results show that the scientific live worksheet causes a significant improvement in students' critical thinking skills. Another finding is that there is no difference in the achievement ofcritical thinking skills in male and female students. The students are facilitated in a balanced way by following the stages of learning in the scientific liveworksheet through their respective devices. Based on these findings, it is suggested that the use of scientific liveworksheets be encouraged to develop the critical thinking skills of male and female students in the industrial era 4.0.Keywords: liveworksheet scientific, critical thinking, genderBerpikir kritis adalah salah satu kemampuan yang harus dimiliki oleh siswa abad 21.
