Realisation of "Black Boxes" Using Machines

    No full text
Abstract. Modern engineering solutions attract attention of researchers to well-known problems in the field of system theory and cybernetics in general. The realisation problem of a "black box" is one among these problems. In this paper the non-anticipation property for a "black box" is generalised to the case of "black boxes", whose behaviour admits deferred decisions. Furthermore, for such "black boxes" it is shown that they can be realised as pre-machines, which have been introduced by author jointly with his co-authors in series of earlier papers

The article deals with the artistic comprehension of the man and history concepts in the novel “The Shadows of the Forgotten Park” by Grygoriy Huseynov. This work refers to non-fiction samples of literature, based on documentary facts collected by a local lore writer. This paper focuses on the author’s skill to display the events of the past. The historical era is revealed in the above mentioned work through the recreation of the individual life destiny. The article defines the genre of the investigated work as “a novel in stories”. Each story is a separate, completed story of the person’s fate or a key episode of his life. At the same time, all the stories are built up in a single artistic cycle, reflecting the results of the philosophical comprehension the problem of human being in history. The work is based on reliable, but little-known facts. It contains the gallery of artistic portraits including outstanding persons of Ukrainian history (usually unjustly forgotten, underestimated by their times). The paper also notes about the transformation (degradation) of the person’s moral norms, the loss of spiritual values, caused by the Soviet ideology. Modern times are considered as a certain segment of history, closely connected with the past. It should be noted that, according to the author, the concept of the past / modern times is formal in general. It is sometimes difficult to determine where the past ends, and where the present time starts. They are closely interrelated being in cause-and-effect relation. The modern times are inextricably linked to the mystic. Along with the scenes of the real person’s life in the history there are the characters which are “the shadows” of the past, the mysterious objects (a notebook, a gate) that mark the time and space, moral and ethical oppositions such as the past / modern; spiritual / non-spiritual; happy / disappointed; moral / immoral. The article concludes that the novel “The Shadows of a Forgotten Park” by Grygoriy Huseynov interprets the place, the role of an individual in society and in the world in general through the personal experience of one human life. The article explains deep understanding of the family and genealogical history of some families of Ukrainian elite of Cossack origin in the second half of the 19th century. Pavlo Galagan, as a personality, who is the last direct descendant of the Cossack Hetman origin who acquired high social status at the beginning of the 18th century, remains only as a “memorial name”. Grygoriy Galagan and Catherine Galagan (Kochubey), his parents, to commemorate his son after his premature death, often mention him in the context of the university foundation. The author creates a “biographical portrait” of Pavlo Galagan and interprets information about the socio-cultural life of the Galagan family, describes the attitude of the representatives of Ukrainian elite of the 19th century to the problems of education, religion, Ukrainian identity etc. The article describes Pavlo Galagan’s social life in the context of the environment based on the interpretation of the content sources of personal origin (memoirs, diaries, letters, etc.) created by him and people close to him. The main focus is devoted to memories of Pavlo Galagan’s father and mother created for the College “Yearbook” of P. Galagan, published by A. Stepovych in 1896, correspondence, in particular a pile of letters from father to his son dated the fi rst half of 1860s, travel notes and P. Galagan’s diary, created upon the impressions from the fi rst trip abroad in 1866. The author emphasizes that Pavlo Galagan origin and ideological priorities are formed, on the one hand, upon well-established traditions of training of young elite, on the other hand, according to the liberal-democratic beliefs and “Ukrainophile” preferences of his parents

Effects of the lercanidipine - Enalapril combination vs. The corresponding monotherapies on home blood pressure in hypertension: Evidence from a large database

    No full text
Objective: To compare a combination of a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker with an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor vs. monotherapy with one or the other drug and placebo for their effects on home blood pressure (HBP). Methods: After a 2-week placebo wash-out, patients with an elevated office blood pressure (BP) (diastolic 100–109 and systolic <180 mmHg) and HBP (diastolic 85 mmHg) were randomized double-blind to a 10-week treatment with placebo, lercanidipine, 10 or 20mg daily, enalapril, 10 or 20mg daily, or the four possible combinations. In addition to office BP, HBP was self-measured via a validated semiautomatic device twice in the morning and twice in the evening during the 7 days before randomization and at the end of treatment. Baseline and treatment HBP values were separately averaged for each day, morning, evening or the whole monitoring period, excluding the first day. Day-by-day HBP variability was defined as the SD or the variation coefficient of the daily BP averages. Results: Eight hundred and fifty-four patients with valid HBP recordings at baseline and at the end of treatment were analyzed (intention-to-treat population). From the baseline value (147.011.6 mmHg) systolic/diastolic HBP showed a small reduction (average baseline-adjusted change: –1.8/–1.6 mmHg) with placebo, a more marked significant fall with monotherapies (8.8/5.9 mmHg, P<0.001/<0.001 vs. placebo) and even more with combination treatment (11.6/7.6 mmHg, P<0.001/ <0.001 vs. placebo and P<0.01/<0.05 vs. monotherapy). A similar pattern was observed for each of the days of the BP self-monitoring period as well as for either morning or evening values, although the difference between mono and combination treatment appeared to be consistently significant for the morning values only. Dayby- day systolic BP-SD was unaffected by placebo and slightly reduced by drug treatments, with no, however, significant changes in SBP-variation coefficient. Baseline and end of treatment HBP values showed a limited correlation with office BP values, this being particularly the case for treatment-induced changes (correlation coefficients: 0.37 for systolic and 0.45 for diastolic BP). Conclusion: This large HBP database shows that the lercanidipine–enalapril combination lowers HBP more effectively than the corresponding monotherapies and placebo, and that this greater effect is consistent between days

The article deals with the problems of formation of spiritual and moral values of children in the creative heritage of the great Ukrainian teacher Grygoriy Vaschenko. The author analyzes the main approaches of the teacher to the tasks of spiritual and moral upbringing of youth. The deep significance of the scholar's opinion on the assimilation by younger generations of national traditions, cultural heritage of the people and the presence of the ideal for imitation is emphasized. The importance of the Christian foundation in the formation of two basic principles of the educational ideal – Christian morality and Ukrainian spirituality is characterized. The expediency of the Ukrainian teacher's explanation of the strategy of close interaction of such institutes of education as the family, educational institutions, church and society is shown. It is proved that the spiritual and moral aspects of the heritage of G. Vashchenko are basic in the conception of the Ukrainian educational ideal. The modern paradigm of education involves recognizing man as the main value that develops in conjunction with the global world. The ideas and thoughts of G. Vashchenko are needed today in Ukraine, especially in the development of the national education system, in particular on such important issues as spirituality and morality. The purpose of the article is to study the role and place of the spiritual and moral upbringing of the individual in the development of the concept of the Ukrainian educational ideal in the heritage of the outstanding Ukrainian teacher of the twentieth century G. Vashchenko. The analysis of the scientific works of G. Vashchenko proves that the problem of the spiritual and moral upbringing of the individual is one of the leading in the creative heritage of scientist. Since morality is closely linked to the nature of man, the conditions of his life, religious beliefs, then there are systems of morality inherent in individual peoples, - said G. Vashchenko. The system of morality of every nation characterizes the solution of the main issues: the nature of man, the main purpose of his life and the criteria of morality. According to the educator, most of the population in Europe, America and Australia adhere to Christian morals. The pedagog is convinced that the ideal of the Ukrainian is based on two basic principles: Christian morality and Ukrainian spirituality. G. Vashchenko developed a model of the educational ideal of Ukrainian youth, in particular aspects of the theory of national moral education ("Education of the will and character" (1952-1957), "Education of love for the motherland" (1954), "Educational ideal" (1964). G. Vashchenko noted that the norms of morality were created, perfected by the Ukrainian people for centuries. He believed that the family values laid the foundation for the purity of relations in the family, regulate the relations of different generations, promote the development of such concepts as marital fidelity, become the constituent elements of culture inherent in Ukrainians and their historical heritage. It is in the family that the foundations of the formation of moral values in children are laid, the need for their mastering is raised. The teacher emphasized that in the process of moral education of a person it is necessary to form in it a national awareness, love to his native land, language, customs, traditions. The moral education of G. Vashchenko is inseparable from religiousness. G. Vashchenko emphasized the importance of moral and religious education of youth. He paid special attention to the upbringing of patriotism in the Ukrainian youth on a Christian basis G. Vashchenko saw the moral and spiritual perfection of personality in the education of love for work. In solving the problems of moral education, the teacher paid special attention to the formation of such qualities in personality as availability of a worldview, based on an idealistic-religious basis, high principles, honesty, humanity and kindness, tolerance, ability not to be lost in defeats, decisiveness. Analyzing G. Vashchenko's creative heritage, we draw the conclusion that in the concept of national education, developed by the teacher, the problems of spiritual education of Ukrainian youth take on a priority place. According to G. Vashchenko's heritage, the path to spirituality lies: first, through the acquisition of national culture - folklore, literature, and art; and secondly, through the transfer of traditions, customs that are national in nature; and thirdly, due to the increase in the level of consciousness of citizens. The system of values of the rising generation should be formed in such a worldview, which is based on spiritual and moral components. Thus, the study leads to the conclusion that G. Vashchenko's pedagogical heritage is based on the Christian traits of education and aims at the revival of morality in society and the resolution of one of the most important tasks by the Ukrainian people: to bring to a high level their spiritual culture, education, science and art, to become at the same level with the advanced peoples of Europe and America. The study made it possible to distinguish the following provisions: first, in the concept of the Ukrainian national educational ideal, the main role is assigned to the formation of spiritual and moral values; secondly, the spiritual and moral upbringing of the individual in the concept of the Ukrainian-educational ideal takes the priority place; thirdly, the principles of Christian morality and Ukrainian spirituality must necessarily be combined with national values; fourth, the ways of forming the basic principles of the Ukrainian educational ideal are closely linked to the means of religious education, the formation of a person's outlook through the influence of the family, school, language, the acquisition of national culture, the transfer of traditions, customs; fifthly, in the formation of spiritual and moral values, an important factor is the close interaction of such institutions of education as the family, educational institutions, the church and society
