    Frederic Chopin was born in Zelazowa Wola, Warsaw on February 22, 1810. He was brought up in a private school among sons of Polish nobility. His musical education was entrusted to the Bohemian pianist Albert Zwyny and the Director of the Warsaw School of Music, Joseph Elsner.     The author made his thesis in a concert form. The concert “Frederic Chopin – Four Ballades” was held on 10.10.2017 at Tampere Music Academy’s Pyynikki Hall. The concert consisted of only Chopin’s music and all the works were performed by the author of the thesis. The program was following: Frederic Chopin – Four Ballades: No.1 in G minor, Op. 23, No.2 in F major, Op. 38, No.3 in A-flat major, Op. 47, and No.4 in F minor, Op. 52. After the Ballades, Frederic Chopin's Mazurka in A minor Op. 17 No.4 was performed as an encore. The main objective of this thesis was to delve into making a musically interesting and professional concert, which includes the whole cycle of works by one composer. The aim of this written report was to clarify the practicing process and the progress of the concert itself. In the report, the author tells about the composer, introduces the pieces played in the concert more closely, and explain the working process in detail. The ways of practising were gathered by participating in piano master-classes and collecting the advices of many teachers from different countries. More attention has been paid to author’s own ideas and experience. As sources the author used biographies, general dictionaries, music analyses of composer’s works and different music scores. The poster, program and the video of the concert are found as attachments in the thesis. The results show that the performer and members of the audience were satisfied with the performance and the evaluator’s opinions gave interesting information for the developing process

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh data-data yang mendalam tentang lagu Nocturne Op.9 No.2 karya Frederic Chopin ditinjau dari struktur dan bentuknya. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan musikologi melalui tinjauan karya Nocturne op.9 No.2 Frederic Chopin. Untuk mendapatkan hasil yang akurat, tinjauan karya ini menggunakan partitur lengkap dari Carl Mikuli, penerbit G. Schirmer-New York/London tahun 1943. Sistematika penulisan meliputi pengumpulan, pengolahan, dan menganalisis data pada lagu Nocturne Op.9 No.2 karya Frederic Chopin dan penelitian dilakukan selama 3 bulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa bentuk Nocturne Op.9 No.2 adalah A-B-A-Coda. Penggunaan rubato dalam lagu Nocturne Op.9 No.2 sering terjadi, hal ini menjadikan salah satu karakteristik pada zaman romantik yang melekat pada lagu ini. Harmoni yang digunakan tidak menggunakan progresi akor I-IV-V atau yang selalu digunakan pada zaman sebelumnya. Setiap unsur musik yang terkandung didalamnya saling mendukung membuat satu kesatuan kesan auditori memberikan nuansa pada malam hari, sesuai dengan namanya yaitu Nocturne. Karya Nocturne Op.9 No.2 memiliki banyak ornamentasi sehingga mempengaruhi ritmik lagu tersebut sehingga mempengaruhi tempo (rubato) sehingga menjadi pendukung ekspresi. This research aims to obtain datas about Nocturne Op.9 No.2 songs by Frederic Chopin review from Form and Structure. The method used is qualitative method with a musical approach from Nocturne Op.9 No.2 by Frederic Chopin. To get accurate results, this review using full score from Carl Mikuli, publishing by G. Schirmer-New York/London years 1943. Systematic writing includes collecting, processing and analyzing data from Nocturne Op.9 No.2 songs by Frederic Chopin and this research was doing for 3 months. The results show that the form of Nocturne Op.9 No.2 is A-B-A-Coda. Nocturne Op.9 No.2 is almost using Rubato all the time, this makes one of the characteristics of Romance Periods. Harmony used does not use chord progression I-IV-V or chord progression has been used Periods before. Every element of the music contained in the auditory feel gives a sense of the night, as a titled is Nocturne. Nocturne Op.9 No.2 has a lot of ornamentation that affect the rhythm of that song and the tempo’s too (rubato) and support the expression
