Fil: Levin, Luciano G. Universidad Maimónides. Centro de Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad. Buenos Aires; ArgentinaFil:De Filippo, Daniela. Universidad Carlos III. Laboratorio de Estudios Métricos de la Información. Madrid; EspañaIn this paper we propose to quantify the use of science fiction movies in academic papers and analyze the patterns of use of those films indexed in international databases, using the ISI Web of Science database. Twenty films were selected from recognized sources. Films referenced in the scientific literature were detected and, with quantitative methodologies, we studied the documental types in which they belong, the journals of publication and the adscription disciplines. To analyze the ?patterns of use? we performed a detailed study of each paper where selected films were found, to observe and categorize the specific ways they are used in.En este trabajo proponemos cuantificar el volumen de textos académicos que mencionan films de Ciencia Ficción en sus argumentos y analizar las modalidades de uso de esas pel ́ıculas en revistas cient ́ıficas indexadas en bases de datosinternacionales.

Fil: Levin, Luciano Guillermo. Universidad Nacional de Río Negro. Instituto de Estudios en Ciencia, Tecnología, Cultura y Desarrollo (CITECDE). Río Negro, Argentina.Fil: De Filippo, Daniela. Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Madrid, SpainThis paper is part of the reflection initiated in 2016 following the20th anniversary of the Public Understanding of Science Journal, analyzing both the thematic evolution of the journal itself andbroader aspects of the evolution of thefield. Here, we aim toanalyze developments in PUS based on all the papers publishedin thefield’s two major journals: Science Communication andPublic Understanding of Science. We propose to study thefieldbased on the epistemic relations established between textsresulting from the references they include. Thus, although theaforementioned journals constitute our source of information, byincorporating in the analysis the references of all the papers inthese journals–which include books and other journals–wesignificantly expand the scope and build the epistemic links thatare established by the texts analyzed in a very specific way.

    Variations on the Author

    No full text
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Spanish Scientific Output in Communication Sciences in WOS. The Scientific Journals in SSCI (2007-12)

    No full text
Although the field of Communication Sciences has been slower to organize in Spain than in other European countries and the United States, in recent years it has shown a clear tendency to growth. One way to trace this process is by analyzing scientific production, and this paper focuses on this aspect. Using bibliometric methods, we analyze scientific journals and papers indexed in Thomson Reuter’s international database, the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) for Communication. While the focus of the study is Spanish scientific output, the results are related to international activities in this field. The three Spanish journals included in SSCI in recent years: «Comunicar», «Comunicación y Sociedad» and «Estudios sobre el Mensaje Periodístico» were studied in detail. The results show that Spain plays an important role in Communcation journal publishing (4th in the world) and as a producer of scientific papers (6th in the world), with a remarkable evolution, in quantitative terms, especially in the last five years. The inclusion of these three Spanish journals in the international database has been an important contribution to the country's visibility in this field, but there is still a need to promote international collaboration to achieve greater impact and openness in the scientific community

This article analyses publications from Brazil in Library and Information Science (Web of Science). The main objectives are: to know the production’s characteristics, to analyze the country’s profile of activity and to detect the documentary corpus used as a conceptual framework. The methodology consists of two stages. At first, papers were collected and the main bibliometric indicators of activity, specialization and collaboration were obtained. Bibliographic coupling method was used in the second stage to detect "Bibliographical communities" with common references. The results show that 910 documents have been published by Brazilian centers between 2000 and 2014, especially in Portuguese, wherein the main dissemination ways are national magazines. Different bibliographic clusters were detected with specific topics, authors and related reference: Open Access studies, information retrieval, metric studies, knowledge organization and scientometrics. The latter community is the most international, due to both consumption and diffusion magazines.

    No full text
The article presents a contrastive analysis of the language of tourism promotion as used in two major international advertising campaigns run by government tourism organizations in 2023: Italia. Open To Meraviglia (Italian Ministry of Tourism) and Grand Train Tour of Switzerland (Switzerland Tourism). The study provides an overview of the main linguistic features that characterize governmental, non-commercial advertising and that differentiate it from traditional commercial advertising, to show that the language used in the two tourism campaigns contains a mix of elements of both types. Specifically, the study analyses the tone of voice of the two campaigns and their actors (two international celebrities for the Swiss campaign, a virtual influencer for the Italian one), examines the surface and structure level of the written and spoken texts of the ads, and describes language use and variation across digital and social media, with a specific focus on language as a digital resource. In doing so, the study aims to provide the basis for further explorations in the dynamics of the language of government advertising in the age of digital and social media

Multilingualism constitutes an urgent objective for education, which needs to involve teachers and researchers at all levels if we are to promote effective and autonomous learning in the young. Like Daniela Zorzi, the author considers herself a socially engaged linguist, and in memory of her friend’s work, offers a reflection on the key roles of languages and cultures and of multilingualism for professional success and social welfare today
