Tradition developed in a community should continue to be preserved from generations to generations.
Efforts are being made one of which is the process of transmission or inheritance. Transmission can be
done in various ways, one of which is ritual. Rituals which are performed continuously and regularly
can be a good medium for the transmission process. The ritual process of artistic creativity that was
developed by the community on the slopes of Mount Merbabu is an example. Art goes hand in hand
with the ritual is one of the transmission mediums used to continue an existing tradition. This research
seeks to show how ritual can be a transmission medium of art, particularly on the slopes of Merbabu
Calligraffiti on Sarong: The Challenges of Contemporary Batik Creativity in Santri Culture
Calligraphy as motifs on sarongs in the santri environment is a challenge because batik motifs with calligraphy are prone to resemble writing that has a sacred meaning and makes the user feel sorry when wearing it. The purpose of this study is to analyze the creative response of contemporary batik artist, Abyan Farazdaq, in creating the motif “calligrafitty”, which is a combination of calligraphy and graffity aesthetics on sarong which is a product of santri culture. The research uses a qualitative approach on Abyan Farazdaq’s batik artwork by collecting data through observation, interviews and visual documentation of artworks. This research show that the artist created a calligraphy pattern, so that the motif cannot be read literally in order to maintain the cultural ethics of sarong users. As a result, the calligraphy motif becomes a form of visual adaptation that maintains the identity of the students and enriches the expression of contemporary batik art. Kaligrafi di Sarung: Tantangan Kreativitas Batik Kontemporer dalam Budaya Santri. Penggunaan motif kaligrafi pada sarung di lingkungan santri menjadi tantangan karena motif batik dengan kaligrafi rentan menyerupai tulisan yang memiliki makna sakral dan membuat penggunanya merasa iba ketika mengenakannya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa respons kreatif seniman batik kontemporer, Abyan Farazdaq, dalam menciptakan motif “kaligrafiti”, yang merupakan kombinasi antara kaligrafi dan estetika graffiti pada sarung yang menjadi produk budaya santri. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif pada karya seni batik Abyan Farazdaq dengan menghimpun data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi visual karya seni. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa seniman menciptakan pola kaligrafiti agar motif tidak terbaca secara literal demi menjaga etika budaya pengguna sarung. Hasilnya, motif Kaligrafiti menjadi bentuk adaptasi visual yang mempertahankan identitas santri serta memperkaya ekspresi seni batik kontemporer

Pesona Seni dan Teknologi pada Pertunjukan Fire Dance di Komunitas Flownesia
Flownesia is one of the Indonesian flow-art communities that use visual performance with fire props. Based on the existing phenomena, researchers see the existence of special tricks that are used when performing and also various forms of property for enchanting the audience, so this research will explore the aesthetic impact that has emerged on visual fire dance performances and the role of technology in the Flownesia community. This research uses a qualitative method, that is done with participant observation. Alfred Gell's (2006) theory of technology of enchantment was chosen to analyze the forms of visual art and technology performances in flow-art performances. The results of this research flow-art performances in the Flownesia community is a manifestation of art and technology, especially when exploring innovations in their performances. The enchantment that displayed is the result of extraordinary techniques also thr concept of modern and tradition, elaborated on the fire dance props. ‘Being Contemporary’: Proses Ari Ersandi Dalam Karya Lalube
Artikel ini melihat bagaimana perspektif kekontemporeran seorang koreografer muda, yakni Ari Ersandi, melalui pengalaman serta prosesnya berkarya Lalube. Pelabelan tari kontemporer secara ekplisit maupun implisit pada festival maupun pergelaran karya tari. Produksi karya terus dihasilkan namun tidak seturut dengan produksi wacananya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan memperhatikan fenomena yang terjadi melalui proses latihan dan pengalaman koreografer. Pewacanaan rasionalitas, kebebasan, kreativitas, dan kemanusiaan oleh Sal Murgiyanto dipadukan dengan konsep kekontemporeran Giorgio Agamben. Ari Ersandi, koreografer urban yang datang dari Lampung ke Yogyakarta mulai belajar tari di perguruan tinggi. Keterbatasannya menari tarian tradisi dan pengalaman hidupnya membuat Ari terpacu untuk mencari teknik gerak sendiri. Lalube menjadi ungkapan resistensi dan eksistensi Ari Ersandi. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
