    International audienceThis paper presents the critical edition of an unpublished Greek literary papyrus of unknown provenance, P.Fouad inv. 220, kept at the Institut français d’archéologie orientale in Cairo. This fragment of papyrus roll preserves the left-hand part of a column of 31 lines, corresponding to the beginning of 31 hexameters, of which the first 21 are completed by P.Köln II 63, which belongs to the same column of the roll. The two fragments contain the remains of a Hellenistic epic poem, by an unidentified author, which was copied in the first half of the third century AD in a quick competent handwriting. As B. Kramer, the editor princeps of the Cologne papyrus, had already recognized it, the preserved verses deal with the abandonment of Ariadne by Theseus. The edition is accompanied by a general introduction, including a study of the material and palaeographical characteristics of the two fragments, which show punctuation marks, diacritical signs as well as a critical siglum (ancora), as well as by a diplomatic transcript, a French translation, critical and grammatical notes, and a commentary comparing the text of the papyrus with the main Latin (Catullus, 64, 50-264; Ovid, especially Heroides, X) and Greek (Nonnus, Dionysiaca, XLVII, 295-418) versions of this myth, which inspired many poets and artists.Le présent article propose l’édition critique d’un papyrus littéraire grec inédit de provenance inconnue, P.Fouad inv. 220, conservé à l’Institut français d’archéologie orientale du Caire. Ce fragment de rouleau de papyrus préserve la partie gauche d’une colonne de 31 lignes, correspondant au début de 31 hexamètres, dont les 21 premiers ont pu être complétés en recourant au P.Köln II 63, qui appartient à la même colonne du rouleau. Les deux fragments contiennent les restes d’une épopée hellénistique d’auteur non identifié, qui a été copiée dans la première moitié du iiie siècle de notre ère par une main rapide et exercée. Comme l’avait déjà reconnu B. Kramer, l’éditrice princeps du papyrus de Cologne, les vers conservés ont pour thème l’abandon d’Ariane par Thésée.     Using altimetry to help explain patchy changes in hydrographic carbon measurements

The definitive version was published in Journal of Geophysical Research 114 (2009): C09013, doi:10.1029/2008JC005183.Here we use observations and ocean models to identify mechanisms driving large seasonal to interannual variations in dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and dissolved oxygen (O2) in the upper ocean. We begin with observations linking variations in upper ocean DIC and O2 inventories with changes in the physical state of the ocean. Models are subsequently used to address the extent to which the relationships derived from short-timescale (6 months to 2 years) repeat measurements are representative of variations over larger spatial and temporal scales. The main new result is that convergence and divergence (column stretching) attributed to baroclinic Rossby waves can make a first-order contribution to DIC and O2 variability in the upper ocean. This results in a close correspondence between natural variations in DIC and O2 column inventory variations and sea surface height (SSH) variations over much of the ocean. Oceanic Rossby wave activity is an intrinsic part of the natural variability in the climate system and is elevated even in the absence of significant interannual variability in climate mode indices. The close correspondence between SSH and both DIC and O2 column inventories for many regions suggests that SSH changes (inferred from satellite altimetry) may prove useful in reducing uncertainty in separating natural and anthropogenic DIC signals (using measurements from Climate Variability and Predictability's CO2/Repeat Hydrography program).This report was prepared by K.B.R. under awards NA17RJ2612 and NA08OAR4320752, which includes support through the NOAA Office of Climate Observations (OCO).     The problem of Ovid’s Greek sources remains complex and very extensive. For the famous Pyramus and Thisbe episode, J. Lightfoot suggests that the Greek author, Parthenius of Nicaea, inspired, in part, the Latin poet. This note aims to bring a new argument in favour of this hypothesis by analysing deeply and precisely the line, Metamorphoses IV 94, in comparison with the 32nd story in ἘρωτικὰΠαθήματα, a “note-book” collecting thirty-six love-stories.El problema de las fuentes griegas de Ovidio permanece complejo y muy extenso.     Current knowledge on the Cuvette Centrale peatland complex and future research directions

    CongoPeat Early Careers Researchers Group is a group of early career researchers who work directly or in partnership with the NERC funded CongoPeat project (NERC reference no.: NE/R016860/1; https://congopeat.net), which has provided the authors with full or partial financial and academic support.The Cuvette Centrale is the largest tropical peatland complex in the world, covering approximately 145,000 km2 across the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It stores ca. 30.6 Pg C, the equivalent of three years of global carbon dioxide emissions and is now the first trans-national Ramsar site. Despite its size and importance as a global carbon store, relatively little is known about key aspects of its ecology and history, including its formation, the scale of greenhouse gas flows, its biodiversity and its history of human activity. Here, we synthesise available knowledge on the Cuvette Centrale, identifying key areas for further research. Finally, we review the potential of mathematical models to assess future trajectories for the peatlands in terms of the potential impacts of resource extraction or climate change.Peer reviewe
