    Buhoneros' reggaeton: Emerging Venezuelan musical practices through mediations in the informal sociopolitical ecosystem

    The following article explores the musical practices and communicating mediations carried out in each stage of the music industry's value chain in Venezuela, in order to observe the way those mediations influence the actors involved, determining the elements that both interact and define the Venezuelan's musical identity taking reg- gaetón (very broadly speaking, reggaetón is a Latinized derivative of Jamaican reggae, originating in Puerto Rico, via an interpretation of Panamanian reggae) as a case study. With this purpose, the research has used some empirical data and qualitative techniques, such as participants' observation, interviews and netnography, as well as quantitative data obtained from the main statistical sources in the country. After establishing the state of the art, the study raises a number of questions to be dis- cussed: (a) the features reaffirmed through a transculturalization process – mainly led by reggaetón – in the Venezuelan’s musical identity; (b) the creative uses the con- sumer has given to Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in order to participate in the new communicating dynamics on the Internet; and (c) the effects that content appropriations, mainly encouraged by the habits of the new Internet user or Venezuelan informal commerce, are having in the country’s music industry

    reservedIl seguente elaborato ha come scopo quello di analizzare la figura del poeta argentino Jorge Luis Borges, molto conosciuto per le sue opere di genere fantastico in lingua spagnola, in relazione al suo interessamento verso la letteratura germanica. In particolare si focalizzerà sull’antico inglese, passione nata grazie alla sua curiosità verso la cultura del padre. Si parlerà della sua malattia congenita, la cecità, che lo porta a riflettere alle sue origini e a comporre saggi sull’inglese antico. Successivamente vengono illustrati alcuni dei poemi in antico inglese che ha reinterpretato in modo personale, sono i seguenti: Le gesta di Beowulf, Solomon and Saturn e la Battaglia di Moldan. L’ obbiettivo è quindi quello di mettere a confronto queste opere della letteratura germanica con l’interpretazione che ne dà Borges e di dare un quadro generale del contesto storico e della relazione tra l’autore e il mondo germanico.The aim of the following paper is to analyse the figure of the Argentine poet Jorge Luis Borges, who is well known for his works in the Spanish-language fantasy genre, in relation to his interest in Germanic literature. In particular, he will focus on Old English, a passion born out of his curiosity for his father's culture. His congenital illness, blindness, which led him to reflect on his origins and compose essays on Old English, will be discussed. Next, some of the Old English poems that he reinterpreted in his own personal way are illustrated, they are as follows: The Exploits of Beowulf, Solomon and Saturn and the Battle of Moldan. The aim is thus to compare these works of Germanic literature with Borges' interpretation of them and to give an overview of the historical context and the relationship between the author and the Germanic world

    A three-dimensional inverse finite-element method applied to experimental eddy-current imaging data.

    Eddy-current techniques can be used to create electrical conductivity mapping of an object. The eddy-current imaging system in this paper is a magnetic induction tomography (MIT) system. MIT images the electrical conductivity of the target based on impedance measurements from pairs of excitation and detection coils. The inverse problem here is ill-posed and nonlinear. Current state-of-the-art image reconstruction methods in MIT are generally based on linear algorithms. In this paper, a regularized Gauss-Newton scheme has been implemented based on an edge finite-element forward solver and an efficient formula for the Jacobian matrix. Applications of Tikhonov and total variation regularization have been studied. Results are presented from experimental data collected from a newly developed MIT system. The paper also presents further progress in using an MIT system for molten metal flow visualization in continuous casting by applying the proposed algorithm in a real experiment in a continuous casting pilot plant of Corus RD&T, Teesside Technology Centre

Особлива увага звертається на дослідження місця та ролі інтертексту, нелінійного письма як ключових засад творчості латиноамериканського письменника. Зазначається, що інтертекстуальність у прозі митця виражена найрізноманітнішими формами (цитати, алюзії, ремінісценції тощо). Водночас простежено, як у борхесівських оповіданнях та мініатюрах відбито міфосинкретичні структури мислення, що поєднують різні часи та простори. Розвинуто думку про те, що інтертекстуальність творів Борхеса співвідноситься з концепцією „лабіринту”. Суттєвим концептуальним підґрунтям статті слугують теоретичні праці Р. Барта, Ю. Крістєвої, М. Бахтіна, О. Астаф’єва, Л. Біловус та ін.The article deals with the investigation of the intertextual field of the small prose by Latin American writer J. L. Borges. On the basis of works of foreign and Ukrainian scholars (R. Barthes, J. Kristeva, M. Bakhtin, O.Astafiev, L. Bilovuss and others) the author considers theoretical and aesthetic aspects of the intertextuality. The main attention is paid to the determination of the role and place of the intertext as the fundamental feature of the creative process of writer. The basic forms of the intertextuality (citations, allusions, reminiscences) are analysed on different functional levels of the Borges’ text. The attention is paid to the analysis of the artistic features of the representation of the author’s world-view and the ways of the author’s selfexpression. The author concedes that intertext in the prosaic miniatures by J. L. Borges correlates with the concept of labyrinth

    Cette thèse doctorale analyse l incidence du bilinguisme de Borges et de sa double filiation ( hispano-argentine et anglo-saxonne ) sur son écriture. En prenant appui sur la théorie lacanienne de l inconscient, l analyse structurale décèle les formes dont la division subjective de l auteur imprègne son imaginaire. Ces formes ont un dénominateur commun, elles expriment une articulation binaire ou un principe de division et, en même temps, une quête d unicité qui trouve un aboutissement idéal dans la voie métaphysique. Les auteurs Anglo-Saxons dont l influence sur l œuvre de Borges fut marquante prennent une place importante dans ce travail. Il en est question de Stevenson, Chesterton et Henry James notamment, mais d autres auteurs sont aussi évoqués.The present doctoral thesis carries out an analysis of the effect of Borges bilingualism and double filiation ( hispano argentinian and anglo-saxon) on his writings. Supported on Lacan s theory of the unconscious, the structural analysis reveals the forms through which the author s subjective division impregnates his imaginary. These forms have a common denominator, they express a binary articulation or a division principle and, at the same time, a search of unicity, ideally achieved by the metaphysics way. A major place is given in this work to Anglo-Saxon authors whose influence marked Borges writings.     La sociedad humana se ha construido a sí misma con el pasar de los años. A cada nueva revolución de pensamiento, los modelos sociales se han modificado; como resultado, los procesos que tenían como finalidad establecer los cimientos de una red de relaciones de todo ámbito desembocaron en aquello que los seres humanos percibimos en la actualidad como nuestro entorno. Sin embargo, no sólo se ha construido aquello que se aprecia a simple vista, sino también otras complejas abstracciones que han pasado desapercibidas pero que dan sentido de manera tácita a numerosos elementos del vivir cotidiano. A nuestro alrededor, miles de signos son interpretados a velocidades inimaginables. Sobre esos sistemas de significación se reescriben las convenciones en una eterna actualización de códigos. Es así como llama la atención en particular el caso de la música como discurso que genera una interpretación. Desde la óptica del estudio del significado, la música despierta una respuesta en la dimensión encargada de comprenderla, pero el cómo se genera esa respuesta sigue siendo objeto de acaloradas y apasionadas discusiones entre los teóricos. La intrincada relación de conceptos generados y reforzados en el tiempo por medio de la interacción social construyen nuestra interpretación musical. Por ello, y para comprender en su totalidad el proceso, repasaremos estudios como el de “Social Constructionism”, enfoques cognitivos, Generativismo, Social Representation o Interaccionismo Simbólico para enmarcarlos en el campo de la experiencia de la música y acercarnos a la comprensión del fenómeno del imaginario colectivo musical

    Mobile communication systems are responsible for the significant changes that are taking place in cultural practices. The mobile phone has established itself as a portable, multi-use, interactive device that individuals use to enable them to manage important aspects of their work and leisure time. This article is based on research that aims to under- stand the phenomenon of mobile TV, the related trends (in terms of experiences, ideas, and models), and the type of user that operates this device. This article also analyses the values and perceptions of users as well as the benefits and drawbacks they encounter when using mobile TV. The study develops a mobile TV content test by using a viewing experience among 100 students from the universities of Malaga and Seville, in Spain. Structured questionnaires with closed questions are used with qualitative techniques that promote virtual discussion in forums that focuses on face-to-face groups. Altogether, the study has enabled the development of a theoretical model of the phenomenon of mobile TV, and has classified user preferences in terms of ergonomic technology, delivery dynamics, the economic value of services, and consumption patterns and scenarios. The main results focus on participants' evaluations of mobile media narrative and the cross-platform experience
