Transdisciplinary Engineering Research Challenges
Get PDFTransdisciplinary research (TDR) has been the subject of discourse in the past few decades, but has not been studied much in the context of engineering problems. Many engineering problems can be characterized as ill-defined, like open innovation, adoption of new technology, business development, and the adoption of the Industry 4.0 concept. Transdisciplinary engineering research (TDER) is also performed in large projects by multi-disciplinary teams, as in TDR projects, including stakeholders and people from practice. Such projects may last long, often years. In such large projects, the involved disciplines should include both engineering disciplines as well as disciplines from social sciences. In this paper we address the challenges that exist in adopting a TDER approach. Universities need to prepare students to work in TDER projects. We discuss the current situation in transdisciplinary engineering education (TDEE) and identify challenges that need to be addressed for including TDEE in curricula. The paper ends with a summary and ideas for further research

Transdisciplinary systems engineering: Implications, challenges and research agenda
No full textTransdisciplinary processes have been the subject of research since several decades already. Transdisciplinary processes are aimed at solving ill-defined and socially relevant problems. Many researchers have studied transdisciplinary processes and have tried to understand the essentials of transdisciplinarity. Many engineering problems can be characterised as ill-defined and socially relevant, too. Although transdisciplinary engineering cannot widely be found in the literature yet, a transdisciplinary approach is deemed relevant for many engineering problems. With this paper we aim to present an overview of the literature on research into transdisciplinary processes and investigate the relevance of a transdisciplinary approach in engineering domains. After a brief description of past research on transdisciplinarity, implications for engineering research, engineering practice, and engineering education are identified. In all three areas, the current situation is described, while challenges are identified that still exist. The paper ends with a research agenda for transdisciplinary engineering
Valorization of banana peel waste via in-situ catalytic pyrolysis using Al-Modified SBA-15

In the first part of the study, banana peel was pyrolyzed by varying the temperatures between 400 and 700 degrees C. It was seen that higher temperature caused in lower bio-oil and bio-char yields but higher gas yields and optimum temperature was determined as 550 degrees C. In the second part, the mesoporous material Al-SBA-15 with the typical hexagonal arrangement of SBA-15 verified via XRD possesses Lewis and Bronsted acid sites (NI-13-TPD), large surface area and wide pore diameter (N-2 physisorption) was able to catalyzing of banana peel biomass resulting in bio-oil yields of 18-28% with varying catalyst/biomass ratios (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 wt%). The highest bio-oil yield from the catalytic pyrolysis was 18.64% with 15 wt% catalyst/biomass ratios. The composition and physical properties of the bio-oils were reported that the catalyst increased oxygen removal from the bio-oil and also developed the production of desirable products like phenolics and aromatic compounds. The results confirmed the catalytic pyrolysis of banana peel was well related to the textural properties of catalysts. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. Get PDFDa'wah bil hal in humanity is a form of worship in Islam with a real amaliyah
form that prioritizes human values in its implementation. These real amaliyah
activities need to be investigated in depth by analyzing communication in the
culture of humanitarian organizations, where in this study a case study of the
Bengkulu Province PMI was taken. To see how the characteristics of da'wah bil
hal in humanity as a manifestation of the ideals of peace, which is the image of
Islam, namely a religion that is rahmatan lil alamin. Thus, the formulation of the
problem in this thesis is how da'wah bil hal in humanity is implemented by the
Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Bengkulu Province, and how communication in
the organizational culture of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Bengkulu
Province expresses human values.
In this study, the author uses a qualitative research type that is carried out in terms
of data quality, not quantity. then the author went down directly to research the
spaciousness in obtaining accurate and comprehensive data, related to da'wah bil
hal in humanity implemented by PMI Bengkulu Province. Determination of the
subject using Snawball sampling and data collection techniques using interviews,
observation and documentation.
The results of the first research, da'wah bil hal in humanity based on the
implementation of PMI Bengkulu Province is an effort to increase internal
capacity to provide good benefits for those in need. Second, the communication
process in the organizational culture of PMI Bengkulu Province prioritizes family
values and harmony. Based on the two research results, the characteristics of
da'wah bil hal in humanity are raised, which prioritizes the value of peace
