Análisis de un evento extraordinario en la cuenca del río Marapa: Provincia de Tucumán
Entre los días 28 de marzo al 04 de abril se produjo en el sur de la provincia de Tucumán un evento pluvial extraordinario, que generó una severa inundación en la localidad de Lamadrid (27°38'45,12"S, 65°14'50.76"W), ubicada en la margen izquierda del río Marapa. La inundación genero enormes pérdidas materiales, en una región caracterizada por la vulnerabilidad que impone su localización en tierras bajas y los bajos recursos de la población expuesta. El evento fue registrado en varias estaciones pluviométricas ubicadas en la cuenca y sus proximidades, donde se superaron los 300 mm de lámina, concentrándose más del 90% del total en tan solo 6 horas de duración. La cuenca estudiada ha sufrido en los últimos años múltiples modificaciones antrópicas, a causa de cambios en la producción agrícola de la zona, tanto en lo que respecta al uso del suelo como a la materialización de canales y desvíos improvisados que generaron modificaciones en la dinámica hídrica, llegando casi a duplicar el área de aporte a la localidad afectada. En este contexto, se propone un análisis estadístico del evento registrado a fin de examinar su probabilidad de ocurrencia, distribución espacial y temporal. Luego, a partir de mediciones de caudal realizadas en la localidad afectada, se calibra un modelo hidrológico precipitación-caudal para estudiar la incidencia de las modificaciones antrópicas en la cuenca, a fin de evaluar posibles soluciones para contener futuros eventos extremos.Fil: Nanni, María Florencia. Health insurance reform in four Latin American countries : theory and practice
The author examines public economics rationales for public intervention in health insurance markets, draws on the literature of organizational design to examine alternative intervention strategies, and considers health insurance reforms in four Latin American countries -- Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia -- in light of the theoretical literature. Equity has been the main reason for large-scale public intervention in the health insurance sector, despite the well-known failures of insurance and health care markets associated with imperfect information. Recent reforms have sought less to make private markets more efficient than to make public provision more efficient, sometimes by altering the focus and function of existing institutions (such as the obras sociales in Argentina) or by encouraging the growth of new ones (such as Chile's ISAPREs). Generally, these four Latin American countries have reformed the ways insurance and care are organized and delivered, have tried to extend formal coverage to previously marginalized groups, and have tried to finance this extension fairly. Colombia instituted an implicit two-tiered voucher scheme financed through a proportional wage tax. Chile's financing mechanism is similar but the distribution of benefits is less progressive, so the net effect is less redistributive. Argentina's remodeled obras system went halfway: the financing base is similar and there is some implicit redistribution from richer to poorer obras, but the quality of insurance increases with income. On the face of it, Brazil's health insurance system is less redistributive than those of the other three countries, as no tax is earmarked for financing health insurance. Mater familias zarzadzala gospodarstwem domowym i czuwala nad wlasciwym wychowaniem dzieci, zas w zyciu spolecznym uczestniczyla jedynie przez osobê mêza lub wspólnie z nim. W czasie Republiki kobiety osiagnêly pewien poziom niezaleznosci i wolnosci, a po jej upadku nadal braly aktywny udzial w wydarzeniach spolecznych dziêki starannie zdobytemu wyksztalceniu. Autor podkresla, ze kwestie zwiazane z macierzyñstwem byly transcendentalnym wydarzeniem dla kobiety. Rome. After the marriage, which following the custom had
been arranged previously by the couple’s parents, the
woman entered the family of her husband and was under
his authority. The mater familias managed the household
and was responsible for the proper upbringing of the
children. She also participated in social life by entertaining
her husband’s guests. During the Republic, women
reached a certain level of independence and freedom,
and after its fall they continued to be actively involved in
social events, in many cases benefiting from an education
geared towards their playing such a role later on in life.
The author emphasizes that the issue of motherhood was
a transcendental event for women and also discusses the
position of women in the lower classes (prostitutes, slaves
and working women)
Combined Tevatron upper limit on gg -> H -> W+W- and constraints on the Higgs boson mass in fourth-generation fermion models
We combine results from searches by the CDF and D0 collaborations for a standard model Higgs boson (H) in the process gg-->H-->W+W- in pp̅ collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at [sqrt]s=1.96 TeV. With 4.8 fb-1 of integrated luminosity analyzed at CDF and 5.4 fb[superscript -1] at D0, the 95% confidence level upper limit on σ(gg-->H)×B(H-->W+W-) is 1.75 pb at mH=120 GeV, 0.38 pb at m[subscritp H]=165 GeV, and 0.83 pb at m[subscritp H]=200 GeV. Assuming the presence of a fourth sequential generation of fermions with large masses, we exclude at the 95% confidence level a standard-model-like Higgs boson with a mass between 131 and 204 GeV.Alfred P. August Czartoryski and his relations with his maternal Spanish family
August Czartoryski (1858-1893) pochodził z jednego z najznakomitszych rodów arystokratycznych skoligaconych z wieloma dworami europejskimi. Przyszedł na świat w Paryżu ze związku Władysława Czartoryskiego i Marii Amparo Muñoz y de Borbón, córki królowej Hiszpanii Marii Krystyny de Borbón i jej morganatycznego małżonka Agustína Fernanda Muñoz, księcia de Riánsares. W skład jego hiszpańskiej rodziny wchodziło także liczne potomstwo państwa Muñoz oraz Izabela II i jej syn Alfons XII.
August doczekał się kilku monografii i drobniejszych publikacji. Jednak w żadnej z nich nie pogłębiono wątku jego relacji z rodziną od strony matki. Niniejszy artykuł wypełnia tę lukę. Autorka odkrywa przed czytelnikami kontakty Augusta z poszczególnymi członkami jego hiszpańskiej rodziny, dokonuje ich oceny, zastanawia się, czy posiadanie hiszpańskich korzeni i spokrewnienie z hiszpańską rodziną królewską miało znaczenie dla kształtowania się jego osobowości i poczucia tożsamości narodowej.
Wobec szczupłości opracowań dotyczących realizowanego tematu artykuł, został oparty głównie na materiałach rękopiśmiennych z archiwów polskich i hiszpańskich. August Czartoryski (1858-1893) came from one of the most outstanding aristocratic families related to many European courts. He was born in Paris, his father being Władysław Czartoryski and his mother – Maria Amparo Muñoz de Borbón, the daughter of Maria Christina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Queen of Spain, and her secret husband Agustín Fernando Muñoz, Duke of Riánsares. His Spanish family also included the Muñozes’ numerous children, Isabella II of Spain and her son Alfonso XII.
A few monographs and other small publications on August have been published. However, in none of them the motif of his relations with his maternal family are studied in detail. The present article fills the gap. The author shows August’s contacts with particular members of his Spanish family, assesses them, and considers the question if having Spanish roots and being related to the Spanish royal family was significant for the formation of his personality and the sense of his national identity.
Because of the scantiness of works concerning the subject the article is mainly based on manuscripts from Polish and Spanish archives
Search for dark matter particles in w+w− events with transverse momentum imbalance in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 tev
A search for dark matter particles is performed using events with a pair of W bosons and large missing transverse momentum. Candidate events are selected by requiring one or two leptons (? = electrons or muons). The analysis is based on proton-proton collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb?1. No significant excess over the expected standard model background is observed in the ??qq and 2?2? final states of the W+W? boson pair. Limits are set on dark matter production in the context of a simplified dark Higgs model, with a dark Higgs boson mass above the W+W? mass threshold. The dark matter phase space is probed in the mass range 100–300 GeV, extending the scope of previous searches. The concept of fascism in Theodor W. Adorno
O presente trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar a conceitualização do fascismo na perspectiva de Theodor W. Adorno. Os textos a serem examinados dizem respeito ao período de produção teórica em que o autor se encontrava, juntamente de outros membros do Instituto de Pesquisa Social de Frankfurt, exilado nos EUA. Durante a década de 40 e 50, Adorno buscou compreender, à luz da psicanálise freudiana, os conteúdos ideológicos autoritários manifestos na democracia norte-americana, a metodologia pela qual eram disseminados e o porquê as pessoas aderiram a eles buscando, dessa forma, desenvolver medidas capazes de combater o fascismo no seio das democracias modernas. A crescente chegada de líderes de extrema-direita ao poder por meio de uma ampla adesão a discursos preconceituosos e fortemente autoritários e o consequente aumento da intolerância pelo mundo coloca a todos aqueles comprometidos com a não repetição da barbárie o desafio de compreender o fascismo e, por conseguinte, traçar uma rota de superação do mesmo, a fim de que a dignidade humana seja preservada nas democracias modernas.This work aims to present the conceptualization of fascism in Theodor W. Adorno's perspective. The texts examined concern the period of theoretical production in which the author was, together with other members of the Research Institute of Frankfurt, exiled in the USA. During the 40s and 50s, Adorno sought to understand, by Freudian's psychoanalysis, the authoritarian ideological contents manifested in American democracy, the methodology by which they were disseminated and why people adhered to them, thus seeking to develop measures capable of fighting fascism in modern democracies. The increasing extreme right leaders in power through broad adherence to biased and strongly authoritarian discourses and the consequent increase in world intolerance puts all those are committed to the non-repetition of barbarism in the challenge of understanding fascism, therefore, to trace a route to overcoming it, so that human dignity is preserved in modern democracies.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)FAPESP: 2019/14695-
Search for W? bosons decaying to a top and a bottom quark at s=13TeV in the hadronic final state
A search is performed for W? bosons decaying to a top and a bottom quark in the all-hadronic final state, in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The analyzed data were collected by the CMS experiment between 2016 and 2018 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb?1. Deep neural network algorithms are used to identify the jet initiated by the bottom quark and the jet containing the decay products of the top quark when the W boson from the top quark decays hadronically. No excess above the estimated standard model background is observed. Upper limits on the production cross sections of W? bosons decaying to a top and a bottom quark are set. A new species of Brevipalpus (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) from the Azores Islands, with remarks on the B. cuneatus species group
[EN] Brevipalpus contains about 290 species, some of which are considered of economic importance. In spite of their agricultural importance, the species diversity is scarcely known in several regions around the world, notably on wild plants. In this work a new species collected on an endemic ivy of the Azores Archipelago, Hedera azorica Carriere (Araliaceae), is described based on an integrative approach using morphological traits of the adults, obtained through electron and light microscopy, and molecular characters based on mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted in order to produce reliable phylogenetic placement of the new species, which is tentatively classified in the B. portalis species group. Morphological similarities between the new species and B. cuneatus Canestrini and Fanzago point out to some inconsistencies in the current morphological classification of Brevipalpus species, especially in the definition of the B. cuneatus group, herein discussed.To "Coordenadoria de Aperfeicoamento de Pessoal do Ensino Superior" (CAPES) for the financial support to R.S. The effect of buildings on atmospheric turbulence in open spaces in Western São Paulo State, Brazil
[EN] This paper seeks to identify a pattern of air turbulence that reflects the effect of buildings on air turbulence characteristics measured in open spaces in Western São Paulo State, Brazil. Atmospheric turbulence was estimated using high-frequency observations of the three orthogonal wind components (u, v, w). A CSAT3 sonic anemometer from Campbell Scientific Inc. (CSI) was deployed on the roof of a building, and the turbulent components (u', v', w') were systematically measured and recorded at 0.1 s and 5 min intervals, respectively, over 100 days between the end of summer (March 2015) and beginning of winter (July 2015) with a CR3000 automatic data acquisition system (CSI). The data analysis took into account the diurnal and nocturnal variability of the turbulence, and the experimental results revealed the existence of a daily vertical circulation pattern. The w component varied between 15 and 45 cm.s-1 on average, and the turbulent fluctuations observed indicated that an ascending component with a speed of up to 1 m.s-1 predominated during the middle of the day and early afternoon. Throughout the night until the early hours of the morning, a less robust, subsiding component with a speed of up to 0.5 m.s-1 was observed. The mean horizontal flow (u, v) was low-speed (around 1 m.s-1) and predominantly from the southeast. There was a consistent change in the direction of this wind, which changed to easterly during the morning as the ascending branch developed.
