I Think I Am Philip K. Dick
For years, noted writer Laurence A. Rickels often found himself compared to novelist Philip K. Dickthough in fact Rickels had never read any of the science fiction writers work. When he finally read his first Philip K. Dick novel, while researching for his recent book The Devil Notebooks , it prompted a prolonged immersion in Dicks writing as well as a recognition of Rickelss own long-documented intellectual pursuits. Poetic Formula “I see” in K. N. Batyushkov’s Work: Creative Assimila-tion of the Derzhavin Tradition
The author analyses the visual metaphors of K. N. Batyushkov’s poetry, in which he acts as the creative heir to the artistic style of G. R. Derzhavin. The urgency of the problem is connected with the need to clarify the features of the creative method of K. N. Batyushkov in the aspect of his assimilation of the Derzhavin tradition. The novelty of the research is connected with the expansion of ideas about the poetics of the visual in Russian poetry of the early 19th century, in particular, in the work of K. N. Batyushkov. It is proved that K. N. Batyushkov represents vision as a process of cognition of the world. The mechanisms of K. N. Batyushkov’s transformation of visually perceived world in an artistic image are considered, the artistic thinking of the poet is reconstructed. It is revealed that the model of creating a visual verbal image in K. N. Batyushkov’s work is based on the poetic formula “I see.” It is shown that K. N. Batyushkov emphasizes the position of the observer, reflecting at the same time on the diversity and greatness of God’s world, on the cause-and-effect relationship of reality phenomena. It is established that a special place is given to the representation of historical events in the work of the poet: through the poetic formula “I see” K. N. Batyushkov places himself inside the picture, which corresponds to the emerging aesthetics of romanticism with its cult of personal perception of reality
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Recovery of the Potential from I-Function
The inverse scattering problem on half-axis, in other words, in the spherically symmetric case, consists of finding the unknown potential from a suitable class from the scattering data S. The other problem of practical interest is to find this potential from the spectral data dp(λ). In the literature there are recovery procedures for finding the potential from the spectral or from the scattering data. Define the I-function: I(k) := f'(0,k)/f(k) , where f(x,k) is the Jost solution. Constructive ways to find I(k) from dp(λ) and vice versa, and I(k) from S and vice versa are given. The theory of Riemann problem is used as an essential tool. If I(k) is found, then our methods allow one to construct the scattering data and from these recover the potential by the known procedure. Alternatively, one can construct from I(k) the spectral data and from these find the potential by the known procedure. MSC: 34A5
Measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(B0→K∗0γ )/B(B0s→φγ ) and the directCP asymmetry inB 0→K∗0γ
The ratio of branching fractions of the radiative B decays B0→K⁎0γ and B0s→ϕγ has been measured using an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1 of pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=7TeV. The value obtained is
B(B0→K⁎0γ)B(B0s→ϕγ)=1.23±0.06(stat.)±0.04(syst.)±0.10(fs/fd),
where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is associated with the ratio of fragmentation fractions fs/fd. Using the world average value for B(B0→K⁎0γ), the branching fraction B(B0s→ϕγ) is measured to be (3.5±0.4)×10−5.
The direct CP asymmetry in B0→K⁎0γ decays has also been measured with the same data and found to be
ACP(B0→K⁎0γ)=(0.8±1.7(stat.)±0.9(syst.))%.
Both measurements are the most precise to date and are in agreement with the previous experimental results and theoretical expectations
First observation of the decay Bs0→K*0K*0
The first observation of the decay B0s→K∗0K∗0 is reported using 35 pb−1 of data collected by LHCb in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. A total of 49.8±7.5 B0s→(K+π−)(K−π+) events are observed within ±50 MeV/c2 of the B0s mass and 746 MeV/c2 < mKπ < 1046 MeV/c2, mostly coming from a resonant B0s→K∗0K∗0 signal. The branching fraction and the CP-averaged K∗0 longitudinal polarization fraction are measured to be B(B0s→K∗0K∗0)=(2.81±0.46(stat.)±0.45(syst.)±0.34(fs/ fd))×10−5 and fL =0.31±0.12(stat.)±0.04(syst.)
Establishment of the contemporary Slovenian author
Koncept avtorja se je skozi čas spreminjal. V antiki je avtor veljal za avtoriteto, vzor in genija, v (post)strukturalizmu, ko je osrednje mesto zavzel tekst, so razglašali avtorjevo smrt, v današnjem času hiperprodukcije literature pa je ponovno obujen, njegova vloga pa korenito predrugačena: avtor s tem, ko sodeluje v promociji, književnemu delu omogoča preživetje. Avtor, ki se ne želi tržiti, na književnem trgu posledično obstane le s težavoče želi, da njegovo delo ni spregledano, mora biti viden in se zavestno uveljavljati. Prav proces uveljavljanja raziskujem tudi v svoji magistrski nalogi. Podrobneje me zanima, katere entitete omogočajo avtorjevo uveljavljanje in do kakšne mere se kot posameznik lahko zoperstavlja tržni logiki. Ker odločilno vlogo v tem procesu igrajo mediji in založbe, sem opravila intervjuje s petimi slovenskimi medijskimi uredništvi (in raziskala, na kak način izbirajo avtorje, o katerih poročajo, kako skrbijo za uravnovešenost, na kak način prestavljajo avtorje ipd.) ter s šestimi založbami (zanimalo me je, kako pristopajo k promociji, kakšni avtorji so zanje zanimivi, kako sodelujejo z mediji ipd.). Kot pomemben faktor v procesu uveljavljanja oboji omenjajo literarne nagrade, predvsem nagrado kresnik, ki jo podeljuje časnik Delo – vlogi slednje se posvečam v zadnjem poglavju. V sklepu izpostavljam dobre prakse, ki v slovenskem prostoru prispevajo k uveljavljanju še neuveljavljenih avtorjev, in podajam predloge izboljšav, do katerih bi lahko prišlo v medijih in založništvu.The concept of the author has changed over time. In antiquity, the author was considered an authority, a role model and a geniusin (post-)structuralism, when the text took centre stage, the death of the author was proclaimedin today\u27s age of the hyperproduction of literature, the author has been revived, and his/her role radically reshaped: the author, by taking part in the promotion, enables the literary work to survive. The author who does not want to market himself/herself will consequently find it difficult to stay on the literary marketif he/she wants his/her work not to be overlooked, he/she must be visible and consciously assert himself/herself. In my master’s thesis, this process of assertion has been explored. In more detail, I am interested in which entities enable the author to assert himself/herself and to what extent can he/she as an individual challenge the logic of the market. Since the media and publishing houses play a decisive role in this process, I interviewed five Slovenian media editorial offices (to find out how they choose the authors they cover, how they ensure balance, how they shift authors, etc.) and six publishing houses (to find out how they approach promotion, which authors are interesting to them, how they cooperate with the media, etc.). Both mention literary prizes as an important factor in the process of promotion, especially the kresnik prize awarded by the Delo newspaper – the role of the latter is discussed in the last chapter. In the conclusion, good practices that contribute to the promotion of non-established authors in Slovenia are highlighted and suggestions for improvements that could be made in the media and publishing are listed
A deuterium NMR study of molecular dynamics and geometry in two classes of onium salts:(CH3) 3E+ X-and C6H5M (CH3) 3+ I
Deuterium NMR measurements are reported for two types of onium salts: (CH3)3E+I-, where E = O (counterion is BF4-), S, Se, or Te, and C6H5M(CH3)3+I-, where M = N, P, or As. Within each class of compounds the activation energy for rotation of the trimethyl groups about the C3' axis increases with increasing size of the central atom. In the first class of compounds the C-E-C bond angle decreases with the size of the atom E. In addition the magnitude of the quadrupolar coupling constant, chi, varies with E, ranging from 160 kHz for E = O to 190 kHz for E = Te. This is in qualitative agreement with molecular orbital calculations of the electric field gradients. At low temperatures the H-2 NMR spectrum of C6H5N(CH3)3+I- Can only be rationalized with a model in which trimethyl rotation is faster than methyl rotation. The H-2 NMR of ring (predominantly ortho and para)-deuterated C6H5N(CH3)3+I- is consistent with rapid n-site (n greater-than-or-equal-to 3) rotation of the phenyl ring above 390 K. Below 390 K spectra characteristic of two-site, 180-degrees, flips of the phenyl ring are observed. In this note, we adapt arguments of the second author to prove that i(n,k)≍k−δ(1+logk)−3/2 uniformly for 1≤k≤n/2, where δ=1−1+loglog2log2. As an application, we show that the proportion of π∈Sn contained in a transitive subgroup not containing An is at least n−δ+o(1) if n is even
