Algumas demarcações do debate Marx-Bauer sobre “crítica” e “crise”

    No full text
This article aims to investigate, based on a primarily historical-political recovery, the Marx-Bauer debate around the critical-crisis conceptual duo in the period from 1841 to 1844, from the elaboration of Die Posaune (1841) which demarcates the project of a joint work, to the clearest form of the controversy among the authors in Was ist jetzt der Gegenstand der Kritik? and The Holy Family of 1844. Through the comprehension of the intellectual environment in the Prussian historical-political conjuncture, we can outline the modification of criticism from the interrelationship and dialogue with this scenario that will contribute to accentuate the contrast and even bifurcation between your thoughts. We witness the concept of criticism in Bauer associating himself with the crisis as understanding and overthrow of all that exists that underlies thought, in a conscious refusal of the vote to practice, while in Marx the criticism will be enunciated as an attitude of the existing and limited man whose intention is not only criticize but leading to the real crisis.O objetivo deste artigo é investigar, a partir de uma recuperação prioritariamente histórico-política, o debate Marx-Bauer ao redor da dupla conceitual crítica-crise no período de 1841 a 1844, desde a elaboração de Die Posaune (1841) que demarca o projeto de um trabalho conjunto, até a forma mais clara da polêmica entre os autores em Was ist jetzt der Gegenstand der Kritik? e A Sagrada Família de 1844.

Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução, Florianópolis, 2013.Abstract : This study aims to investigate two translations of FLICTS, first children's book written by Ziraldo and first full-colored album for children produced in Brazil, with a view to discussing the different interactions between text and image that might occur within the translation of children's literature. Considered a landmark in Brazilian Children's Literature since its launch in 1969, its British version was translated by Silvia Caruana and published by the publishing house Roger Schlesinger in 1973 and its American English version was translated by Daniela Pinto, originally published by Melbooks in 1984 - subsequently also published by Editora Melhoramentos and commercialized in Brazil. The theoretical framework informing the study is based on the interface of Descriptive Translation Studies, Translation of Children's Literature and the Grammar of Visual Design. By the analyses of a multimodal corpus and a dossier about the history of this printed book, it was possible to note that the several changes along FLICTS publishing history have made up other possible readings on this work

Drawing on the logic of the relational turbulence model, this study examined the ways in which romantic partners facilitate and interfere with individuals’ weight loss goals. Participants (N = 122) described the ways in which their romantic partner had recently helped or hindered their weight loss at four times over the course of 2 months. We conducted a content analysis of responses to identify themes of partner facilitation (Research Question 1 [RQ1]) and partner interference (RQ2) in individuals’ weight loss goals. Results revealed seven themes of partner facilitation: (a) partner enabling diet, (b) motivation and encouragement, (c) emotional support and positive reinforcement, (d) exercising together, (e) partner enabling exercise, (f) dieting together, and (g) relationship influence and priorities. Four themes of partner interference emerged in the data: (a) inability to plan for healthy meals, (b) inability to control the food environment, (c) preventing or discouraging exercise, and (d) emotional or relational discouragement.Peer reviewe

The constructions of authorship and audience in the production and consumption of children’s film adaptations

    No full text
In the public consumption of film adaptations of popular children’s literature, which is, particularly in relation to the popular press, influenced by the marketing communications of the filmmaking team, the discursive negotiation of author and audience constructs is pivotal in the endeavor to side-step or manage the seemingly unavoidable discourses of fidelity. In this, child audiences are imagined and constructed in a variety of ways; however, these constructions generally have very little to do with actual children and much more to do with how the filmmakers wish/need to manage and negotiate the significance of both book and film authors. This area is largely unexplored in adaptation studies, for whilst the topic of fidelity proliferates the discipline, its function as a marketing tool - as well as its links to how author(s) and audience(s) are imagined and constructed - needs further investigation. What is clear in the following case studies is that the representations of audience(s) vary depending on the culturally understood personas of the author(s) at hand, therefore as the representation of the various book and film authors shift from case study to case study, so does the representation of the audience. In Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone, J.K. Rowling is deemed to be the primary authorial presence, and the audience are imagined as a cohesive, loyal group of avid readers. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton and Roald Dahl are equally significant (despite the lack of Dahl’s physical presence) because they are both deemed to be outsiders, much like the audience members are all (implicitly and paradoxically) also deemed to be. In The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, Andrew Adamson is unable to compete with the emotional attachment many adult journalists and critics have to the book, and the result of this is that the discursive presence of the child audience is largely absent. All of these films were within a few years of each other, yet the ‘child,’ childhood more generally, and the intended audience are all constructed in very different ways demonstrating that what is important to those promoting (and often those consuming) a film is a solid author construct, and any discussions of children or child audiences only serves to validate these author figures

SALT: a final creative thesis in poetry

    No full text
This collection of poems is separated into three sections that can be interpreted as Identity, Place or Position, and Things. Although not clear cut, this collection explores these thematic elements by questioning and manipulating language, exploring the musicality of language and modernizing traditional forms. Memory is a large focus of the work, and is woven into each of the sections. What I leave for the reader is a body of work that questions Identity as a whole; how where we come from, and where we’re going, might shape us. The title SALT comes from the coastal phrase “Salt water heals everything,” and reflects the significance of water throughout the body of the thesis.M.F.A.by Amanda E. Stop

Editing Specialised Texts in English A corpus-assisted analysis II edition

    No full text
This volume examines the editing of specialised texts as practised by the Editing Unit at the Directorate- General for Translation at the European Commission in Brussels. Following a corpus-assisted approach, it compares two comparable corpora of the same texts, in their non-edited and edited versions. Using quantitative techniques from corpus linguistics together with manual text analysis, the author reflects on the types of revisions that are made, of a formal, grammatical and lexical nature, and on some phraseological aspects of the edited texts. The conclusions drawn are that the written English representing supranational organizations such as the European Union institutions continues to be norm-bound, adhering to standard British English. However, traces of influences from other European languages, in terms of false friends, and certain grammatical phrases, characterise the corpus of edited texts more than reference corpora of British English. Similarly to translated language, edited language is also found to be characterised by explicitation and simplification
