    The Traditional Anak Daro Clothes Of Salayo, Solok District West Sumatera:A Semiotic Analysis

    The purpose of this study is to reveal the meaning and signs of clothes worn by anak daro and introduce and preserve Minangkabau culture, especially in traditional wedding clothes in Nagari Salayo, Solok District. This research resulted in the meaning of the signs on the clothes and attributes worn by the bride during the wedding party. These meanings are categorized into 3 parts.  These meanings are categorized into 3 parts. First, it reflects the state of flora and fauna in the surrounding nature, such as bungo sanggua banana saparak, dukuah rago, dukuah ramo-ramo, tali baju, tabua, galang munggu, galang leaves. Second, the Salayo community does not forget the rules of custom and religion, this can be seen in the attributes of dukuah pinyaram. The symbolic meaning of the marriage symbols as a whole is a form of respect, while the symbolic meaning contained in the traditional clothes of the Salayo children is a form of responsibility and life lived during marriage.The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method. The main data collection techniques in qualitative research are observation, in-depth interviews, and supplemented by documentation studies. The data analysis technique is to explain the clothing attributes and interpret each sign on the attributes using the theory proposed by Ferdinand de Saussure, namely Semiotics

    This study aims to describe the letter recognition skills of 4-year-old children through a case study approach. The focus of the study includes children\u27s ability to recognize letter shapes, name letters, and distinguish letters that have similar shapes and sounds. This study used a qualitative method with a case study design. The subject of the study was a 4-year-old child who was selected purposively. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews with parents, and documentation of learning activities. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that children\u27s letter recognition skills developed gradually, marked by the ability to name most letters of the alphabet and recognize the first letter of certain words, although still experiencing difficulty in distinguishing some letters that have similar shapes. These findings indicate that environmental stimulation and adult guidance play an important role in supporting the development of letter recognition skills in early childhood. This study is expected to contribute to educators and parents in designing early literacy learning strategies that are appropriate to the child\u27s developmental stage

    Alpha Generation Slang by Content Creators on Tiktok

    This research explores the use of slang by Alpha Generation on TikTok, focusing on content from creators @DamonSharpe, @KarenWazen, and @LearnWithPari, analyzed between December 1st-18th, 2024. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research identifies and classifies 63 slang terms based on Allan and Burridge’s (2006) framework, categorizing them into five types: Fresh and Creative (52 terms, e.g., Sigma, Rizz), Clipping (4 terms, e.g., Sus, Fit), Flippant (4 terms, e.g., Fanum Tax), Acronym (2 terms, e.g., GOAT, FR), and Imitative (1 term, e.g., Finna). The study also examines their meanings and social functions, including addressing, initiating relaxed conversation, expressing impressions, and conveying emotions like anger or intimacy. Data were collected through observation, screenshots, and analysis of videos, with meanings derived from online sources and creator content. Findings highlight TikTok’s role as a dynamic platform for linguistic innovation, reflecting Alpha generation cultural and social identities. The predominance of Fresh and Creative slang underscores their creativity, while the varied functions illustrate slang’s role in fostering community and identity. This research offers insights into digital language evolution and suggests future studies explore slang across platforms and incorporate quantitative methods for broader sociolinguistic understanding

    The research entitled FBI Criminal Investigation Procedures on Finding a Missing Person in Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl examines how the novel depicts the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s methods in solving Amy Dunne’s disappearance. The study explores how the narrative reflects real investigative practices, particularly regarding criminal evidence, missing person procedures, and underlying motives. The background emphasizes the role of crime fiction in shaping public views of law enforcement, while the purpose is to analyze the representation of FBI methods and assess their effectiveness in uncovering the mystery. This study uses a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach, with Gone Girl as the primary text. Theories of criminal investigation, criminology, and narrative analysis support the interpretation. Data analysis involves categorizing textual evidence, identifying investigative patterns, and interpreting them through forensic and motive-based perspectives. The findings show that the novel illustrates the complexity of FBI missing person cases, highlighting physical and psychological evidence, systematic investigative steps, and the impact of hidden motives. Flynn blends authentic procedures with fictional exaggeration, enhancing narrative tension while emphasizing motive as central to crime. The portrayal reveals both the strengths and limitations of law enforcement in handling such cases

    Negative Politeness Strategy in Sellers and Buyers Interaction at “Pasar Kamis” in Pulau Aro Village

    The aims of this research is to determine  negative politeness strategies in sellers and buyers interaction at “Pasar kamis” in Pulau Aro Village. Several phases of the descriptive qualitative approach were used to perform this study. The first strategy involved gathering information by means of observation, elicitation, and advanced techniques such as record and taking notes. Yule\u27s and levinson’s theory and a few related and corroborating literature are used to assess data. The researcher employed the referential method to analyze the data. The data analysis is then presented in an informal manner.The analysis\u27s findings were presented in an informal method. Seven types of negative politeness strategies can be identified from the 10 form categories, including: be conventionally, indirect, question (hedge, be pessimistic, minimize the imposition, and  apologize

    The Responsibilities of Father and Son Towards Their Families As Seen in Mario Puzo’s The Godfather

    The title of this research is The Responsibilities of Father and Son Towards Their Families as seen in Mario Puzo’s The Godfather. This research problem focuses on the differences and similarities between the main characters of father and son, as well as the background of the attitude changes experienced by Michael Corleone as reflected in the novel The Godfather. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. By quoting sentences or words that show personality characteristics and then describing them. The results of this research show that the personality structure in Freud’s Psychoanalysis theory (1923) shows that the personalities of Vito and Michael are influenced by Id, Ego, and Superego. This happens due to the different lives of Vito and Michael who have different personalities in the world of mafia families. Michael’s character change was caused by the deep trauma when his father, Don Vito Corleone, was shot by the enemies. Research on psychoanalysis is essential to understanding this research as it can provide deeper insights into the motivations, behaviors, and relationships of the characters reflected in The Godfather. Psychoanalysis can help in analyzing family dynamics, themes of morality and violence, and provide a new perspective overall. Based on the analysis of the main character through psychoanalysis research, it can be concluded that the main character experiences many events that cause psychological turmoil because of the life they live as part of a mafia family

    The Need of ESP Reading Materials for Accounting Students

    This study explored the specific needs of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) reading materials for accounting students. Since reading comprehension played a crucial role in understanding accounting texts, reports, and financial statements, the study aimed to identify which reading skills were most essential to support students’ academic and professional competence. A quantitative descriptive design was employed, and data were collected from students through a needs analysis questionnaire consisting of ten indicators of reading skills. The results showed that most of the identified reading skills, such as understanding accounting vocabulary, interpreting numerical data, recognizing text organization, and summarizing accounting information, were categorized as highly needed; with an overall mean score of 3.3. The highest mean scores (3.5) were found in identifying main ideas, recognizing text structure, and making connections between texts and accounting practice. These findings emphasized the importance of developing contextualized ESP reading materials that integrated authentic accounting texts and reflected students’ real academic and professional needs

    This research investigates the implicit meanings found in the lyrics of Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic album. It examines the artist’s use of figurative language and cultural references to deliver underlying themes associated with lifestyle, self-confidence, affection, and identity. The objectives of this research are to identify the implied meanings in the song lyrics, to analyze how themes such as lifestyle, affection, and cultural identity are implicitly represented, and to examine the elements that contribute to the construction of these meanings within the lyrics. This research focuses on how the artist uses figurative language and cultural references to convey hidden themes related to lifestyle, self confidence, affection, and identity. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing semantic analysis and contextual interpretation to examine the lyrical content of each track. Data were obtained through a documentation method, drawing from credible and official lyric sources. The results indicate that symbols of wealth such as gold, luxury clothing, and festive imagery function not just as material representations but as metaphors for personal empowerment and self representation. Moreover, expressions of love and admiration are conveyed through poetic devices, adding depth to the album\u27s artistic expression.This research offers insight into the intersection of music, literature, and culture, demonstrating how popular music especially in the R&B and funk genres can reflect complex personal and social themes. The research uncovering the hidden messages within the album’s lyrics, the research promotes a richer understanding of how mainstream artists like Bruno Mars embed layered meanings in their musical work

    The interest in conducting this research with the title Toponymy areas in Pesisir Selatan District: Analysis Anthropolinguistics. This research aims to analyze the toponymy or origin of regional names in Pesisir Selatan District and analyze the meaning and cultural elements of the region. The purpose of this anthropolinguistics study is to categorize and describe village toponymy, explain its cultural identification, and show the cultural values contained in the naming of regional names. The theories used in this research are anthropolinguistics, toponymy, sociolinguistics and semantics. This research is a field research using descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques in this research are using interview techniques, note-taking techniques, and recording techniques.Overall, regional toponymy in Pesisir Selatan District mostly consists of hydrological aspects and geomorphological aspects. This is motivated by the fact that the Pesisir Selatan District area was once a place that was mostly located on hydrology and the shape of the area in the area has become an icon and characteristic of the area. As for the history of the kingdom, it has existed since ancient times but did not last long because the average population in this area came from overseas who came from outside this District

    Struggle of Love Elizabeth and Darcy As Seen in Jane Austen`S Pride and Prejudice

    This thesis focuses on the love struggle between Elizabeth and Darcy, the conflict between them is prejudice and pride. Prejudice is found in Elizabeth and pride is found in Darcy, this thesis uses Steinberg\u27s triangular theory of love with three main components such as intimacy, passion, and commitment. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. To obtain by searching and collecting several books related to analyzing the struggle of love, sacrifice, and external conflict in a literary work. By quoting sentences or words that show the characteristics of love struggles and forms of sacrifice, as well as external conflicts and then transcribing them. This thesis focuses on Elizabeth and Darcy love struggle, the conflict between them is prejudice and pride. Prejudice is found in Elizabeth and pride is found in Darcy. The result of the research is that Elizabeth and Darcy\u27s love struggle is caused by the conflict between them, and the conflict comes from their own personalities, how to deal with prejudice and arrogance, especially the difference in social status class, Darcy comes from a rich family and Elizabeth comes from a low social status class family. This became a tense conflict between Elizabeth and Darcy in their love journey. After the change of attitude between them, they had to face reality, because in the change of attitude, they realized that what they had done such as prejudice by Elizabeth and arrogance from Darci caused them to understand each other, they admitted their mistakes, apologized, accepted each other\u27s opinions and forgave each other. This pushes them to go through conflicts that are very difficult to be united in their journey of love
