Forensic Linguistic Examination of Illocutionary Acts in the Police BAP of the “EN” Murder Case in Muara Bungo

This study examines the illocutionary acts embedded in the police interrogation transcript (Berita Acara Pemeriksaan/BAP) of WD, the suspect in the murder of EN in Muara Bungo. Using Searle’s taxonomy of speech acts, the research identifies assertives, directives, expressives, and commissives as the dominant forms shaping the interaction between the interrogator and the suspect. The analysis reveals that the interrogator consistently relies on high-pressure directives that control narrative flow, restrict the suspect’s discursive freedom, and guide the production of legally relevant information. In contrast, the suspect’s responses exhibit a pattern of assertive confessions, mitigation strategies through reported speech, emotional expressions, and moral positioning. These linguistic choices not only construct his version of events but also function as strategic attempts to negotiate responsibility and reshape the legal interpretation of his actions. The findings indicate that BAP statements are not neutral reflections of spoken interaction but structured linguistic events influenced by institutional power, psychological dynamics, and communicative strategies. This study highlights the importance of forensic linguistic analysis in evaluating the credibility, voluntariness, and evidentiary value of interrogation transcripts in Indonesian legal settings. It also contributes to understanding how language functions as both evidence and a tool for shaping legal realities

This study explores university students’ perspectives on the use of digital technologies (DT) in learning English for Specific Purposes (ESP). While the integration of DT has been widely promoted, student perceptions remain underexplored, particularly in vocational higher education. The aim of this research is to examine students’ opinions on the role of DT in enhancing ESP learning and to identify the tools they frequently employ. A mixed methods design was applied with twelve participants from different study programs. Quantitative data were obtained through a Likert-scale survey on perceptions and digital tool usage, complemented by brief interviews for qualitative insights. Results indicate strong support for DT integration: 91.7% of students agreed or strongly agreed that DT enhances ESP learning, with no negative responses recorded. WhatsApp and YouTube were universally used (100%), followed by Zoom (91.7%), Google Classroom (66.7%), and Moodle (50%). Use of ESP-specific simulators was less common (33.3%). Students highlighted ease of access, interaction, and flexibility as key benefits, while limited exposure to specialized ESP tools was noted as a challenge. The study concludes that students hold positive views of DT in ESP, yet further investment in domain-specific applications is required to optimize learning outcomes

This research explores the themes of discrimination and tolerance in The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski. Employing postcolonial theories by Edward Said, Homi K. Bhabha, and Gayatri Spivak, the study analyzes how fantasy narratives reflect social realities regarding injustice and diversity. The novel presents a fictional world marked by racial tensions among humans, elves, dwarves, and other magical beings. Through character interactions and the social structures depicted in the story, readers are presented with portrayals of marginalization, stereotyping, and systems of oppression. At the same time, the novel also includes moments of tolerance that suggest the possibility of coexistence and mutual understanding. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a library research approach. The findings reveal that The Witcher serves not only as a reflection of social inequality but also as a critique of dominant power structures and an exploration of efforts to build tolerance within a divided society
