    AbstractThis research aimed to determine the analysis of the role of the background in shaping the characters in novel Lukisan Tanpa Bingkai by Ugi Agustono J. The problems of this research are: (1) the role of the setting in shaping the character depicted in the novel Lukisan Tanpa Bingkai by Ugi Agustono J, (2) the role of the background time in shaping the character depicted in the novel Lukisan Tanpa Bingkai by Ugi Agustono J, (3) the role of the social settings in shaping the character depicted in the novel Lukisan Tanpa Bingkai by Ugi Agustono J, (4) the implementation of literary learning about the background in shaping the character. The purpose of this research is to describe the role of place, the role of time, and the role of sociality to create main characteristic.  This study used a description method with qualitative research forms. The technique used  this study documentary and data collection tool is the researcher himself as a key instrument.     Phytochemical study of dryobalanops from Malaysian dipterocarpaceae and structure-activity relationship studies / Agustono Wibowo

    Dryobalanops is one of the genera in the Dipterocarpaceae family, which is distributed as major species in emergent canopy of Lambir Forest and Sarawak lowland dipterocarps forest. The genus is very unique, as there are only seven species available in the whole world, which confined to the tropical forests of West Malesia. The chemical constituents of Dipterocarpaceae are reported to possess various biological activities such as cytotoxicity, antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities. The aims of this study are to isolate secondary metabolites, to determine their antibacterial, DPPH scavenging and cytotoxic activities, to study structureactivity relationship, and to propose biogenesis pathway and chemotaxonomic significance in Dryobalanops. The dried powder of the stem bark of D. aromatica, D. lanceolata, D. rappa and D. becarii were macerated with acetone and evaporated under reduced pressure. The crude acetone extract was subjected to vacuum liquid chromatography to give several fractions. Purification of fraction with combination of several chromatography techniques gave four new oligostilbenoid derivatives; malaysianol A (1), B (2), C (3) and D (4), and a new galloylglucoside derivative; malaysin A (5), together with 15 known oligostilbenoid (6-20) and six known nonoligomeric compounds (21-26). The chemical structures of isolated compounds were elucidated based on the spectroscopic data evidences and comparison with reported authentic data. Biogenetically, the biosynthesis routes of non-oligomeric compounds were formed from the shikimate pathway, while oligomeric compounds were from the combination of shikimate and acetate malonate pathways. Based on the radical species and their condensation types, 19 oligostilbenoids isolated from this study were formed from the oxidative coupling reaction of two radicals with active site at carbons C-8 and C-14 (C8-C14 type), carbons C-8 and C-8 (C8-C8 type), carbons C- 3 and C-8 (C3-C8 type), and oxygen 0-13 and carbon C-8 (C7-C14 type). The finding of oligostilbenoids with the condensation types C3-C8 and C7-C14 are not commonly found in Dipterocarpaceae family. Based on the chemotaxonomic study, the presence of several compounds that were only found in the tribe Dipterocarpeae and never reported in the tribe Shoreae supported the previous studies on the morphological character that suggested the placement of Dryobalanops under the tribe Dipterocarpeae. In the antibacterial assay, flexuosol A (16) and upunaphenol D (18) showed moderately antibacterial activity against S. epidermidis, S. aureus, S. xylosus with MIC value of 50.0/16.7, 66.7/33.3 and 50.0/16.7 jaM, respectively. In the cytotoxic assay, vaticanol C (20) were found to be moderately active against A549 cell line (ICso 11.8 fxM), as well as a-viniferin (11) and ampelopsin E (12) against MCF-7 cell line (IC50 23.1 and 21.0 ^M, respectively), while other compounds were either weak or not active. In the DPPH assay, malaysianol A (1), flexuosol A (16) and vaticanol B (19) displayed great scavenging activity with IC50 values 15.7, 15.0 and 11.8 mM, respectively. In the structure-activity relationship study, the scavenging activity of oligostilbenoid depend on the number of hydroxyl group and their stereochemistry, otherwise no definitive correlation between unit structures of oligostilbenoid and cytotoxicity was observed, but its conformation seem to be responsible for the cytotoxic properties

    The purpose of this study is to describe the representation of multicultural elements in the novel Painting Without a Frame by Ugi Agustono J. The research uses an interpretive descriptive method, which uses interpretive methods by presenting them in the form of descriptions. Data collection is done by reading and note-taking techniques. The data analysis technique uses a content analysis model. The results of the study show that in Ugi J's Painting Without Frames novel contains seven elements of multiculturalism, namely: (1) solidarity and brotherhood, (2) gender equality, (3) open trade, (4) family values, (5) respect for etiquette, (6) feel enough in life, (7) share and control power. AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan representasi unsur-unsur multikultural dalam novel Lukisan Tanpa Bingkai karya Ugi Agustono J. Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif interpretatif yakni memanfaatkan cara-cara penafsiran dengan menyajikannya dalam bentuk deskripsi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik baca dan catat. Teknik analisis data menggunakan model analisis konten. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam novel Lukisan Tanpa Bingkai karya Ugi J mengandung tujuh unsur multikulturalisme, yakni: (1) solidaritas dan persaudaraan, (2) kesetaraan gender, (3) perdagangan terbuka, (4) nilai kekeluargaan, (5) penghormatan terhadap tata susila, (6) merasa cukup dalam hidup, (7) berbagi dan kontrol kekuasaan

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Pembimbing: Prof. Dr. Djoko Saryono, M.Pd.Kata Kunci: cerita fantasi, novel, citraan, stilistikaNataga the Little Dragon adalah salah satu novel fantasi karya Ugi Agustono yang mengisahkan komodo dan Pulau Komodo. Ugi Agustono menggunakan unsur citraan untuk membangkitkan tanggapan indera pembaca.  Citraan merupakan salah satu kajian stilistika yang dapat membuat pembaca seolah-olah dapat melihat, mendengar, dan merasakan apa yang diceritakan pengarang dalam karyanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) jenis citraan pada novel fantasi Nataga the Little Dragon dan (2) fungsi citraan pada novel fantasi Nataga the Little Dragon.Sehubungan dengan hal itu, untuk melakukan penelitian ini digunakan jenis penelitian kajian teks dengan pendekatan hermeneutika. Data penelitian ini adalah paparan bahasa berupa narasi, dialog, dan monolog yang ada pada novel fantasi Nataga the Little Dragon karya Ugi Agustono. Pengumpulan data menggunakan studi dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan dengan cara klasifikasi, reduksi data, penyajian data, penafsiran data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Untuk mengecek keabsahan data digunakan teknik ketekunan pengamatan dan kecukupan referensial. Tahap-tahap penelitian ini meliputi tahap persiapan, tahap pelaksanaan, dan tahap analisis.Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya dua aspek, yakni jenis citraan dan fungsi citraan. Pertama, jenis citraan pada novel fantasi Nataga the Little Dragon  terdiri atas 7 subaspek, yaitu (1) citraan pelihatan, (2) citraan pendengaran, (3) citraan penciuman, (4) citraan pencecapan, (5) citraan gerak, (6) citraan perabaan, dan (7) citraan intelektual. Citraan pelihatan berupa deskripsi alam, benda (senjata) dan binatang (reptil dan mamalia). Citraan pendengaran berupa bunyi yang dihasilkan oleh alam dan bunyi yang dihasilkan oleh binatang (reptil, burung, ikan, dan mamalia). Citraan penciuman berupa bau yang dihasilkan oleh alam dan bau yang dihasilkan oleh binatang (mamalia dan reptil). Citraan pencecapan berupa rasa daging binatang. Citraan gerak berupa aktivitas tokoh dalam cerita, seperti berjalan, melompat, dan memanjat. Citraan perabaan berupa suhu dingin dan sentuhan terhadap benda. Citraan intelektual berupa pengetahuan tentang komodo dan binatang di hutanKedua, fungsi citraan pada novel fantasi Nataga the Little Dragon ada empat. Fungsi pertama, citraan untuk memperjelas gambaran. Citraan untuk memperjelas gambaran terbagi menjadi dua, yakni citraan untuk memperjelas gambaran karakter tokoh dan gambaran latar. Fungsi kedua, citraan untuk menghidupkan gambaran dalam pikiran dan penginderaan. Fungsi ketiga, citraan untuk menimbulkan suasana yang khusus. Suasana khusus tersebut berupa suasana yang mengerikan, suasana tenang, suasana sepi, suasana ramai, suasana bahagia, dan suasana sedih.  Fungsi keempat, citraan untuk membangkitkan intelektualitas pembaca.Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diperoleh dua simpulan. Pertama, jenis citraan yang diteliti pada penelitian ini terdiri atas tujuh citraan, sedangkan pada penelitian sebelumnya hanya lima jenis citraan yang sering diteliti. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dua jenis citraan, yakni citraan gerak dan citraan intelektual digunakan pada novel Nataga the Little Dragon. Jenis citraan yang paling banyak ditemukan dalam novel Nataga the Little Dragon adalah citraan pelihatan, sedangkan citraan yang paling sedikit ditemukan adalah citraan pencecapan karena novel tersebut bergenre fantasi dan bertema petualangan sehingga hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan indera pencecapan jarang ditemukan. Kedua, fungsi citraan pada novel Nataga the Little Dragon yang sedikit ditemukan adalah fungsi citraan untuk membangkitkan intelektualitas pembaca karena novel tersebut bertema petualangan sehingga sedikit menggunakan logika dan pemikiran.Saran ditujukan kepada penulis sastra dan peneliti sastra selanjutnya. Kepada penulis sastra disarankan untuk berkreasi dengan menggunakan citraan pada penulisan karya sastra, khususnya citraan pencecapan, karena citraan ini jarang ditemukan. Kepada peneliti sastra selanjutnya diharapkan untuk meneliti citraan gerak dan citraan intelektual. Dua jenis citraan tersebut jarang diteliti sehingga peneliti selanjutnya diharapkan dapat meneliti lebih mendalam tentang citraan gerak dan citraan intelektual.

    Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
