    No full text
The antioxidant activity of the peels of guava, papaya and pineapple was evaluated by 2, 2 – diphenyl -1- picrylhydrazhyl (DPPH) method. This study was carried out to determine the total phenolic content (TPC) of these peels of fruits. For this testing, ethanol and water was used as extracting solvent. The total phenolic content of the crude extract of peels were determined from the standard calibration curve of gallic acid. From the results, it showed that the ethanol extract had higher total phenolic content than the water extract for all of fruits peel extract. In guajava psidium, value of ethanol extract is (1210 mg GAE/g ) compared water extract (324 mg GAE/g), carica papaya (353.2 mg GAE/g) for ethanol extract compared to water extract is (102.4 mg GAE/g) and also for ananas comosus with ethanol extract (236.4 mg GAE/g) compared to water extract (80 mg GAE/g). Ethanol extract also showed the higher radical scavenging for all of fruits peel. For guajava psidium, ethanol extract showed (98.4 %) compared to water (76.9%). While for radical scavenging activities of carica papaya in ethanol extract was (83%) compared water extract was (82.7%). Ethanol extract of ananas comosus peel also showed higher scavenging activities with (76.1%) compared to water extract was (73.3%). From the testing on 2, 2 – diphenyl- 1- hydrazhyl (DPPH) method, it showed that the extract of guajava psidium had high radical scavenging acivities and also had high total phenolic content

The development of information has an impact on the emergence of the work of world leaders, not least in the field of libraries. Two of them are Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz with the work of a literacy model The Big6. The Big6 consists of 6 stages and each stage consists of 2 subdivisions. These two figures emphasize the importance of information skills for problem-solving with a systematic framework. The research method used is a literature study. Data collection is done by means of documentation from articles that have been published on the internet. The data analysis technique chosen is content analysis. To prevent misinformation, the author re-checks the articles used. The results of this study state that The Big6's literacy model can answer anxiety in unraveling information problems. The development of this model can be accessed on the official website of The Big6. One form of innovation from this model is the emergence of The Big6 in a technological context which is almost the same as the stages in Christine Bruce's Seven Faces of Information Literacy. The benefits of this research can be used as a solution in problem-solving. While the purpose of this study is to provide a broad overview of the stages of The Big6.Keywords: the big6; literacy model; Mike Eisenberg; Bob Berkowits

Efficiency Analysis of Malaysian Family Takaful Using Stochastic Frontier Approach

    No full text
Malaysia has the most extensive family takaful market globally with a growth rate of 16 percent in 2015. Takaful development in Malaysia should be assessed to govern better improvement for insurance industry. This research aims to examine the efficiency level of 11 family takaful in Malaysia from 2017 to 2020 using Stochastic Frontier Approach (SFA) method involving management expenses as an input, net benefits and claim, and investment income as output. This examination will investigate the effect of management expenses and net benefits and claim to investment income using regression test in SFA. The result shown that Malaysian family takaful is considered less efficient from 2017 to 2020, with production efficiency level average at 57.38 percent. It indicates that takaful is inefficient in claims payment and generating investment income. Several firms have efficiency levels up to 80 percent, such as Zurich Takaful Malaysia Berhad and FWD Takaful Berhad. The most significant growth happened on Etiqa Family Takaful which increased by 30.92 percent from 2017 to 2020. The author finds that management expenses negatively affect investment income, while net benefits and claims give positive impact. However, both variables are not significant enough to influence investment income. Keywords: Malaysia, Family Takaful, Efficiency Level, Stochastic Frontier Approac

Abstract This study aims to describe the discourse construction of eviction in Pulau Rempang, Riau Islands, as portrayed in the alternative media "Project Multatuli". The analysis is conducted using Halliday's transitivity approach and Fairclough's critical discourse analysis, employing a mixed-method approach (quantitative and qualitative). The research data consists of a news text titled "Mengubur Harapan Warga Rempang: Dulu Dijanjikan Sertifikat, Kini Digusur Demi Investasi Asing". The analysis results show that the text strongly aligns with the Rempang community. Halliday's transitivity analysis reveals the dominance of material processes (21 or 25.30% of findings), illustrating concrete actions of eviction and state violence. Additionally, circumstantial elements of place (196 or 54.44% of findings) indicate that the conflict is not only a social issue but also relates to politics and the struggle for living space. The discourse construction in the news text aligns with the values upheld by "Project Multatuli", namely democracy, humanity, social justice, equal rights, and environmental sustainability. Thus, this study reinforces the role of alternative media in amplifying marginalized voices and constructing resistance discourse against policies perceived as unjust.

Phytochemical study of the hexane fruits peel extract of Lansium domesticum contributed to the discovery of onoceranoid-type triterpene, onoceradienedione 1. The structure of the isolated compound was done by advance spectroscopic techniques, comprising IR, UV, 1D, 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS spectra data. Moreover, hexane extract and isolated compound 1 were examined for their cytotoxic activity against HeLa, T47D, and A549 cells. The results revealed the significance cytotoxic activity in the hexane extract
