Abstract: Tuna species are the large group of important fishes that belong to the Scombridae family, covers more than 50 different species, are significant in supplying a global market. Tuna widely consumed worldwide as fresh or canned. Considering that tuna fish, like other scombroid fish, is commonly associated with cases and outbreaks Histamine Food Poisoning (HFP). Histamine is identified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a major chemical hazard of seafood products. The aim of the present study was to search and review the findings from the scientific published literature studies focusing on determination of histamine levels in commercial canned tuna. The results of the data search, remaining 11 articles were suitable in this review. The histamine levels in canned tuna were determined in this study by using ELISA, HPLC or a rapid test method. Samples of commercial canned tuna from different countries were analysed and found to have histamine levels that were within the acceptable range. Histamine level that is considered to be permissible in fish and fishery products differs by country. In the United States (US), a histamine level of 50 mg/ kg is considered indicative of fish spoilage, while the European Union (EU) has established an acceptable histamine level of 200 mg/ kg for fish belonging to the Scombridae, Clupeidae, Engraulidae, Coryphaenidae, Pomatomidae, and Scomberesocidae families. Keywords: Determination, histamine levels, commercial, canned tuna. Dress and identity in the arts of western Anatolia: the seventh through fourth centuries BCE

    No full text
This dissertation investigates the variety of clothing options available to the ancient Western Anatolians from the seventh through the fourth centuries BCE as evidenced by archaeological remains, visual representations, and rare written sources. The body of the dissertation includes an analysis of the textile industries, a typological examination of the dress items, and three case studies of the tomb imagery in Western Anatolia. Given the lack of first hand evidence for the social history of the region, especially of its non-Greek populations, this examination reveals the important position articles of dress occupied in conveying social roles and status in Western Anatolia. Through an analysis of the 'language of dress‘ this dissertation reaches two conclusions. First, there existed a distinctive 'Anatolian‘ dress fashion shared among the various ethnic groups of Anatolia during the time in question. Second, the Western Anatolian elite adjusted borrowed dress fashions from the Persian court in order to show their status claims within the local socio-historical circumstances.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Tuna Şar

Biodiesel has several advantages over solar. Compared to solar, biodiesel has more eco-friendly characteristic and produces lower greenhouse gas emissions. Biodiesel that is made from animal fats can be produced from fish oil, while other alternative sources from vegetable oils are seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii and Gracilaria sp. Waste tuna oil (Thunnus sp.) in Indonesia is commonly a side product of tuna canning industries known as tuna precook oil; on the other hand, seaweed Gracilaria sp. and Kappaphycus alvarezii are commonly found in Indonesia’s seas. Seaweed waste that was used in the present study was 100 kg and in wet condition, and the waste oil was 10 liter. The seaweed was extracted with soxhletation method that used n-hexane as the solvent. To produce biodiesel, trans esterification was performed on the seaweed oil that was obtained from the soxhletation process and waste tuna oil. Biodiesel manufactured from seaweed K. alvarezii obtained the best score in flash point, freezing point, and viscosity test. However, according to level of manufacturing efficiency, biodiesel from waste tuna oil is more efficient and relatively easier compared to biodiesel from waste K. alvarezii and Gracilaria sp

Partitioning and recovery of proteinase from tuna spleen by aqueous two-phase systems

    No full text
Partitioning of spleen proteinase from yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacores) in an aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) was investigated. Phase compositions including PEG molecular mass and concentration as well as types and concentration of salts affected the protein partitioning. ATPS comprising PEG1000 (15% w/w) and magnesium sulfate (20% w/w) provided the best condition for the maximum partitioning of the proteinase into the top phase and gave a highest specific activity (47.0 units/μg protein) and purification fold (6.61). The yield of 69.0% was obtained. Under the same ATPS condition used, the partitioning of proteinase of splenic extract from three tuna species involving skipjack tuna, yellowfin tuna and tongol tuna were compared. The purity of splenic extract from all tuna species increased after ATPS process. Among all species tested, yellowfin tuna showed the highest purification fold, followed by tongol tuna and skipjack tuna, respectively. SDS-substrate gel electrophoresis revealed that the band intensity of major proteinase in ATPS fraction from all tuna species slightly increased with the concomitant decrease in band intensity of other contaminating proteins, indicating the greater specific activity of splenic extract. Therefore, ATPS was an effective method for partitioning and recovery of proteinases from tuna spleen

Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, Temel İslam Bilimleri Ana Bilim DalıBu tezde Pembezâde Ahmed b. Osman Efendi'nin yazdığı Şerhu Kasîdeti Bânet Suad isimli eserin 35-59. beyitler arasının tercümesi ile dil, sarf, nahiv, belagat uygulamaları ve edisyon kritik çalışması ele alınmıştır. Sözü edilen kasîde Ka'b b. Züheyr'in Hz. In this thesis, Pembezâde Ahmed b. The translation of a certain part of the work called Şerhu Kâsideti Bânet Suad written by Osman Efendi, language, usage, syntax, rhetoric practices and edition critical work are discussed. The aforementioned qasida Kab b. Zuhayr's Hz. It is Kasîdetü'l-Bürde, which he presented to the Prophet on this occasion, where he attained his happiness. The famous qasida, one of the most important examples of Arabic poetry, sheds light on the poetry understanding of that period in terms of containing all the features of jahiliyya poetry. Due to this importance, many commentaries, tahmis and tastirs were written on the eulogy. Ottoman scholar Pembezâde Ahmed b. Osman Efendi was included in the tradition of commentary on Kasîdetü'l-Bürde with the work he wrote. When the work that is the subject of the study is examined, it is seen that the author has a detailed command of the Arabic language. However, when the literature review was made, Pembezâde Ahmed b. Seeing that Osman Efendi's works were not the subject of any comprehensive study, prompted us to download the Şerhu Kasideti Bânet Suad from the dusty shelves of libraries and present it to the service of the scientific community. The study consists of an introduction and six chapters. In the first part, the owner of the eulogy Kab b. Züheyr, the owner of the annotation in the second part, Pembezâde Ahmed b. Osman Efendi, in the third section, the methods and principles followed in translation and verification, in the fourth section the translation of the work, in the fifth section the use of syntax, syntax and rhetoric in the specified part of the work, and the proofreading of the commentary in the sixth section. During the study, the guidelines specified in the Second Edition of the Isnad Citation System and the ISAM Arbitrary Publication Principles were followed. In addition, footnotes are given where necessary to clarify the subject so that readers can easily understand the text

Sotelo ... et al.-- This is an open access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are creditedTuna fisheries and processing represent economic activities of paramount importance around the world. Most of these products are traded for human consumption and in general are highly demanded commodities. However, not all tuna products achieve the same market price, some consumers are willing to pay a huge amount of money for certain species (i.e. Japanese market for Bluefin tuna) while other species are rather affordable (i.e. Skipjack tuna), therefore mislabelling has been observed frequently. We collected and analysed 545 tuna samples in six European countries, including fresh, frozen and canned products, and we have investigated whether or not these products were correctly labelled under European and national legislations. We found an overall mislabelling rate of 6.79%; in particular, 6.70% of the fresh and frozen tuna products and 7.84% of canned tuna were mislabelled, and only in the case of fresh and frozen tuna samples significant differences among countries were found. Mislabelling rates for Atlantic Bluefin tuna labelled products were very high, ranging from 50 up to 100%. In general, mislabelling was higher when specific names were included in the labels. The “tuna” umbrella term is a very popular one with consumers, but also one that remains vulnerable to ambiguity, hampering efforts towards market transparency and with potential negative consequences to the adequate management of tuna species stocksThe work was funded by LABELFISH project, supported by the EU Atlantic Area Programme Project Number 2011-1/163 and the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs grant FA0116Peer reviewe
