Yuan Real Exchange Rate Undervaluation, 1997-2006. How Much, How Often? Not Much, Not Often
Full text linkYuan real effective exchange rate misalignment is esitimated in a behavioral equilibrium exchange rate (BEER) model for the period 1997 to third quarter 2007. Using the Beveridge-Nelson decomposition a vector error correction model (VECM) of the exchange rate as a function of macroeconomic fundamentals, including government expenditures, economic openness, the balance of trade surplus, and net foreign assets, is estimated. We find that the Chinese Yuan has been fluctuating moderately around its long run equilibrium value with undervaluation up to 4% and overvaluation up to 6% at various points in time since 1997. This result is consistent with findings of many of the most recent studies employing alternative econometric methodologies to determine the equilibrium exchange rate. While the Yuan real effective exchange rate has deviated from equilibrium, and it is sticky, taking over five years to correct 50% of the short run misalignment, it does not appear to have been consistently undervalued as has been widely argued.Chinese Yuan, Exchange Rate, Misalignment, BEER, Behavioral, Cointegration, ARIMA, VECM, FGLS.

Geometric Optics for Surface Waves on the Plasma–Vacuum Interface: Higher Order Expansion
No full textWe consider the free boundary problem for a plasma–vacuum interface in ideal incompressible magnetohydrodynamics, where the Maxwell equations for electric and magnetic fields are considered in the vacuum region. Under a necessary and sufficient stability condition for a piecewise constant background state, we construct approximate solutions at any arbitrarily large order of accuracy to the free boundary problem in three space dimensions when the initial discontinuity displays high-frequency oscillations. Moreover, such approximate surface waves have nontrivial residual non-oscillatory components. El Yuan (CNH) y su papel frente a la búsqueda de hegemonía económica de China
Full text link21 páginasLos principales países asiáticos están incentivando la independencia del mundo occidental apoyándose en la economía China y su moneda, el Yuan. Tras la post guerra fría el poder económico se ha centrado principalmente en el occidente del mundo y el centro de gravedad geopolítico ha sido el Atlántico. Debido a esto en otros países, principalmente en Asia, se ha generado un movimiento de independencia económica liderado principalmente por China, un proceso en el cual el Yuan ha jugado un papel importante para representar una competencia frente al dólar. El trabajo en cuestión busca identificar la importancia del papel que ha jugado el Yuan en la política internacional, el poder económico y la posible hegemonía de la economía China por medio de la competencia frente al dólar. En el presente informe se muestran mis aportes como asistente de investigación del profesor Wilson Fernando Rodríguez Gómez, siendo principalmente: La búsqueda de información sobre los países que enfrentan sanciones económicas de parte de Estados Unidos, entre ellos Venezuela, Nicaragua, Libia, Líbano, Irak, Irán, Cuba, Balcanes, Bielorrusia, Somalia, Sudan del Sur, Siria, Ucrania, Yemen Corea del Norte y Zimbawe; Los países con los cuales China tiene acuerdos bilaterales de swaps de divisas y los acuerdos entre países que haya incluido el uso del Yuan como medio de pago en reemplazo del dólar estadounidense. Por último, una revisión de la literatura económica en la que se tratan los temas relacionados al papel que juega el Yuan actual e históricamente a nivel mundial y el panorama de la competencia entre la divisa China y las otras monedas líderes a nivel mundial
El realismo de Wittgenstein y Heidegger
Full text linkLa tesis principal de la investigación sostiene que puede efectuarse una lectura realista de las propuestas del segundo Wittgenstein y el primer Heidegger, a partir de un trasfondo práctico que contextualiza y da sentido a nuestras relaciones en el mundo. Este marco que es la “praxis” justifica la afirmación de que tanto para Wittgenstein como para Heidegger nuestro acceso a los objetos se da, en casos normales, inmersos en una práctica contextualizada que involucra y relaciona de modo armonioso al mundo y a los seres humanos y facilita los significados así como la objetividad sobre las que se sostienen.
