A dual-band microstrip patch antenna for 2.45/5-GHz WLAN applications

    No full text
A microstrip transmit patch antenna with harmonics suppression property has been designed for the 2.45/5-GHz WLAN bands. Patch antennas usually have narrow bandwidths and the 5-GHz WLAN band extends from 5.15 to 5.8 GHz, which makes the design challenging. The proposed antenna has two cuts at two of its edges in order to achieve a wide bandwidth for the 5-GHz WLAN band. In addition, a microstrip matching circuit has been implemented to improve the 2.45-GHz low-band response. A low-cost and easily available FR4 substrate has been used for the design and fabrication of the antenna. The presented antenna offers harmonic supression at 4.9 and 7.35 GHz to reduce interference with other receivers. Design process involved extensive electromagnetic simulations. Measured design parameters of the proposed antenna are in good agreement with the simulations

YILDIRIM, BIRDAL/0000-0002-6626-2180WOS: 000539054400001Objective: We aimed to investigate the prevalence and prognostic value of malnutrition assessed by Controlling Nutritional Status score in community-acquired pneumonia patients. Methods: All adult patients admitted to our emergency department and hospitalized for community-acquired pneumonia were prospectively followed-up until hospital discharge or death. Nutritional status was assessed with the Controlling Nutritional Status score, which is based on serum albumin levels, total cholesterol levels, and lymphocyte counts. The primary study endpoint was complicated hospital course defined as need for mechanical ventilation, mortality, or intensive care unit admission. Results: Three hundred and five patients (mean age 68.6 +/- 11.2 years and 51.8% female) were enrolled, and 40 patients (13.1%) had complicated hospitalizations. Older patients, patients with more comorbidities, and patients with higher Controlling Nutritional Status scores on admission were tended to have a higher rate of complications during their hospitalization. Multivariate analysis showed that older age (odds ratio 2.55, 95% confidence interval 1.41-4.64, p 3 (odds ratio 1.27, 95% confidence interval 0.524-3.725, p = 0.035), and Controlling Nutritional Status score > 4 (odds ratio 2.23, 95% confidence interval 1.129-3.657, p = 0.001) were independent predictors of complicated hospitalizations. Conclusion: Malnutrition determined by Controlling Nutritional Status score predicts complications in hospitalized patients with community-acquired pneumonia

An Exploratory Analysis of the Neural Correlates of Human-Robot Interactions With Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy

    No full text
Functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) has been gaining increasing interest as a practical mobile functional brain imaging technology for understanding the neural correlates of social cognition and emotional processing in the human prefrontal cortex (PFC). Considering the cognitive complexity of human-robot interactions, the aim of this study was to explore the neural correlates of emotional processing of congruent and incongruent pairs of human and robot audio-visual stimuli in the human PFC with fNIRS methodology. Hemodynamic responses from the PFC region of 29 subjects were recorded with fNIRS during an experimental paradigm which consisted of auditory and visual presentation of human and robot stimuli. Distinct neural responses to human and robot stimuli were detected at the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) regions. Presentation of robot voice elicited significantly less hemodynamic response than presentation of human voice in a left OFC channel. Meanwhile, processing of human faces elicited significantly higher hemodynamic activity when compared to processing of robot faces in two left DLPFC channels and a left OFC channel. Significant correlation between the hemodynamic and behavioral responses for the face-voice mismatch effect was found in the left OFC. Our results highlight the potential of fNIRS for unraveling the neural processing of human and robot audio-visual stimuli, which might enable optimization of social robot designs and contribute to elucidation of the neural processing of human and robot stimuli in the PFC in naturalistic conditions. Ruth Guimarães (1920-2014) was an intellectual and writer interpreter of Brazil. In his only novel, "Água funda" (1946) mainly reflected national time as a matrix of coloniality. In the first part of this article, I present the trajectory of the black woman author and the consequences of the erasure she suffered for her contemporary reception. In the second, I analyze some aspects of the novel, highlighting the narrative elaboration as the driver of an Afro-diasporic inscription that raises new interpretations about the nation.Ruth Guimarães (1920-2014) foi uma intelectual e escritora intérprete do Brasil. Influence of Emotional Outcome Valence on Sense of Agency in a Free Choice Task

    No full text
Sense of agency (SoA) is a subjective feeling of being the author of one's voluntary actions and their outcomes. Several studies demonstrate that SoA is modulated when the outcomes are affective. However, the research on the influence of emotional outcomes on SoA have yielded somewhat contradictory results. Some studies suggest that the SoA is increased when the outcomes are positive while others conversely suggest that it is diminished compared to negative outcomes, specifically in a moral or social context. This study examined the influence of outcome valence on SoA with a temporal binding paradigm, by manipulating emotional valence and outcome delays. Participants chose between two actions with key presses which randomly produced one of positive (happy), negative (sad) or neutral emoticons after varying delays and judged the interval between their key press and the outcome. The results revealed a significant interaction between outcome valence and delay, which suggested that specifically at 500 ms of delay, perceived intervals were reliably shorter (i.e., stronger binding) between key presses and negative outcomes compared to positive outcomes. Our findings suggest that a negative valence might improve an individual's capacity for SoA when they are presented with an action choice and are unable to predict the outcomes in a social-emotional environment

Diálogos intertextuais e traços memorialísticos em A solidão mais funda, de Ângela Vilma

ABSTRACT: This article analyzes the poetic production of the book A solidão mais funda, by the author from Bahia Ângela Vilma, from the perspective that there are two movements in the work. In the first, there are poems that try to dialogue with canonical authors, such as Fernando Pessoa, Cecília Meireles, Vinícius de Moraes, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Manuel Bandeira, among others. In the second, there is a memorialistic trace, heir above all from Herberto Sales, an author whose work the poet had read since her adolescence. For this, we use the concepts of remembrance and reminiscence of Walter Benjamin (1892-1940), according to which the writer's act of remembering comes not only from his recollection, but also articulates memory and creative imagination, which is also treated by Gaston Bachelard (1884-1962). Thus, the poet starts from recollections, consciously or unconsciously: sometimes reconfiguring them according to the imagination of the lyrical self, sometimes fictionalizing them, making the reader live again their subjectivities.RESUMO: O presente artigo analisa a produção poética do livro A solidão mais funda, da autora baiana Ângela Vilma, sob a perspectiva de que existem, na obra, dois movimentos. &nbsp
