    Superconducting HgBa2CaCu2Oy thin films growth on NdGaO3, SrTiO3, LaAlO3 and Y-ZrO2 substrates

    Superconducting HgBa2CaCu2Oy (Hg-1212) films have been fabricated on (110) NdGaO3, (100) SrTiO3, (100) LaAlO3 and (100) Y-ZrO2 substrates by a two-step process. Good reproducible superconducting properties, zero resistance temperatures (T-c) > 115 K and critical current density (J(c)) > 4000 MA/m(2) at 77 K in zero field, are obtained. X-ray diffraction patterns indicate that the films have an epitaxial structure with the c-axis perpendicular to the surface. Scanning electron microscopy measurements show a layered growth structure with square and octagonal grains on the Hg-1212 film surfaces. (110) NdGaO3 is demonstrated to be a good substrate for growing the Hg-cuprate thin films. A lower superconducting transition temperature is observed in films deposited on Y-ZrO2 substrates, which can be attributed to variations of the microstructure in the films.     Acute Ethanol Administration Rapidly Increases Phosphorylation of Conventional Protein Kinase C in Specific Mammalian Brain Regions in Vivo

    Background Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of isoenzymes that regulate a variety of functions in the central nervous system including neurotransmitter release, ion channel activity, and cell differentiation. Growing evidence suggests that specific isoforms of PKC influence a variety of behavioral, biochemical, and physiological effects of ethanol in mammals. The purpose of this study was to determine whether acute ethanol exposure alters phosphorylation of conventional PKC isoforms at a threonine 674 (p-cPKC) site in the hydrophobic domain of the kinase, which is required for its catalytic activity. Methods Male rats were administered a dose range of ethanol (0, 0.5, 1, or 2 g/kg, intragastric) and brain tissue was removed 10 minutes later for evaluation of changes in p-cPKC expression using immunohistochemistry and Western blot methods. Results Immunohistochemical data show that the highest dose of ethanol (2 g/kg) rapidly increases p-cPKC immunoreactivity specifically in the nucleus accumbens (core and shell), lateral septum, and hippocampus (CA3 and dentate gyrus). Western blot analysis further showed that ethanol (2 g/kg) increased p-cPKC expression in the P2 membrane fraction of tissue from the nucleus accumbens and hippocampus. Although p-cPKC was expressed in numerous other brain regions, including the caudate nucleus, amygdala, and cortex, no changes were observed in response to acute ethanol. Total PKC? immunoreactivity was surveyed throughout the brain and showed no change following acute ethanol injection

    Measurement of the ratio of prompt χ c to J / ψ production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV

    The prompt production of charmonium χ c and J / ψ states is studied in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. The χ c and J / ψ mesons are identified through their decays χ c → J / ψ γ and J / ψ → μ + μ - using 36 pb - 1 of data collected by the LHCb detector in 2010. The ratio of the prompt production cross-sections for χ c and J / ψ, σ (χ c → J / ψ γ) / σ (J / ψ), is determined as a function of the J / ψ transverse momentum in the range 2 < p T J / ψ < 15 GeV / c. The results are in excellent agreement with next-to-leading order non-relativistic expectations and show a significant discrepancy compared with the colour singlet model prediction at leading order, especially in the low p T J / ψ region

    Effect of linear feedback control on the optimal transient growth in particle-laden channel flow

The equilibrium Eulerian approach with the assumption that the particles are small and spherical is adopted. The effect of initial distribution of particles on the optimal transient growth of perturbations is discussed. The LQG control of the particle-laden flow system is considered and compared with the no control cases

    Resistivity and Hall effect in the ab-plane of high TcHgBa2CaCu2O6+y epitaxial films

    By using of high quality HgBa2CaCu2O6+y (Hg-1212) epitaxial films the resistivity and the normal state Hull effect in ab-plane have been studied, These properties indicate that Hg deficient Hg-1212 is an under-doped superconductor. In post annealing experiments we found that Hg carl diffuse our from and into the films at 350 degreesC depending on the Hg vapor pressure. The Hg deficient films show degraded superconductivity. Through annealing them in Hg atmosphere we recovered completely their superconductivity. Using these Hg-1212 films with different cation vacancy contents the relationship between T-C and the Hall coefficient was studied. 1/R-H uas found to have T- linear behavior above a crossover temperature T* and a weakened T-dependence below T*.     A Low SWaP-C Radar Altimeter Transceiver Design for Small Satellites

    This paper discusses the design details of a high resolution, low "Size, Weight, Power and Cost" (SWaP-C) radar altimeter (RA) system. Operating frequency of the radar is chosen within the Ka-band to achieve the desired size and weight requirements, that are highly demanded for the small satellite missions in a cost-efficient way. We propose a system design such that, an intended radar altimeter can be built by using the Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) components.     Relation between enstrophy production and geometry near the turbulent/non-turbulent interface in free shear flows

    In many free shear flows, such as mixing layers, wakes and jets exhibit a sharp turbulent/non-turbulent interface (TNTI) separating regions of turbulent and non-turbulent or potential flow. In the present work the dependence of enstrophy production on the interface geometry near the TNTI is investigated by using direct numerical simulations (DNS) of a shear free turbulence (SFT) and a temporally developing planar jet (PJET). It is shown that the geometry of the TNTI has impacts on the mechanism governing enstrophy dynamics within the interface layer itself. In particular it is shown that enstrophy production within the turbulent sublayer is primarily associated with a convex shape of the interface both the SFT and PJET
