Author described the context of the development of technological and social relationships and how they mutually made changes on ways how people interact with information and access to knowledge.‭ The development of societies changed significantly the role of libraries and posed new technological and other challenges due to the development of information technologies.‭ Since the development of information technologies caused expansion of production capacities in societies there was additional need to standardize production of formats of access,‭ ‬distribution,‭ ‬archiving of information.‭ ‬Due to democratic character of many developed societies openness of information and human rights emphasized an importance of legal aspects and rights of persons with disabilities.‭ ‬Author mentioned articles of the UN Convention of Rights of Persons with Disabilities which required that parties which ratified convention should implement accessibility standards for persons with disabilities.‭ ‬Author presented standards and technical specifications that define accessibility of web interface,‭ ‬computer software and file formats.‭ ‬It is especially emphasized that those standards are important in libraries.‭ ‬Modern libraries should adopt and use file formats which are accessible for persons with disabilities in order to avoid risk of increased discrimination against persons with disabilities if inaccessible technologies will be used.‭ ‬Author believes that this would help persons with disability to use library resources and services equally as other users do.

Does strict employment protection discourage job creation? Evidence from Croatia

    No full text
Employment protection legislation in Croatia is among the most strict in Europe. Firing is difficult and costly, and flexible forms of employment are limited. Is this apparent rigidity reflected-as one would expect based on standard economic theory-in low labor market dynamics? Is job creation low and hiring limited? Is the job security of insiders achieved at the cost of outsiders not being able to enter thelabor market? The author attempts to answer these questions by examining job flows. If the employment protection legislation is binding, then job and worker turnover should be low. He shows that this is indeed the case. Hiring is limited and the average job tenure is very long in Croatia. Job destruction is low, however job creation is still lower. The result is accumulation of unemployment, in large part due to new labor market entrants not being able to find a job. The high degree of job protection also seems to strengthen the bargaining position of insiders and results in relatively high wages. So, wages in Croatia are higher than among its competitors, even after adjusting for productivity. These high labor costs are likely to contribute to limited job creation in existing firms, but also are likely to discourage the entry of-and thus job creation in-new firms. The author presents evidence that firm growth has been indeed limited in Croatia, contributing to the low employment level. The author examines other potential causes of high unemployment in Croatia (the unemployment benefit system, labor taxation, the wage structure, and skill and spatial mismatches). He argues that they do not play a substantial part in accounting for poor labor market outcomes in Croatia. The author concludes that the stringent employment protection legislation is the key labor market institution behind low job creation and high unemployment. Based on this he recommends specific measures aimed at liberalizing the labor market to foster job creation and employment.Labor Management and Relations,Labor Policies,Labor Markets,Environmental Economics&Policies,Trade Finance and Investment,Labor Markets,Labor Management and Relations,Labor Standards,Banks&Banking Reform,Environmental Economics&Policies

– 2021. godine.Fallow deer (Dama dama) is a large game which inhabits Europe. This species is much smaller than the red deer. Fallow deers are diurnal animals and live in herds throughout the year. The only exceptions are hinds at the time of mating and older deer that live solitary. They are very adaptable to confined living space with sparse forest stands and clearings. Pastures also suit them, mostly for grazing. They are mostly bred in fenced hunting grounds and game farms and for that reason they are very little exposed to the danger from predators. The subject of this paper is the presence of fallow deer in hunting grounds from 2016 to 2021 and the analysis of hunting bag of fallow deer in hunting grounds for those years. For the purpose of making this paper in order to obtain the required data, the Central hunting records was contacted, which collects data on the number and hunting bag of all game species. All processed data and results are presented in chronological order for the period from 2016 to 2021

Transnational migration and the new subjects of work: Transmigrants, hybrids and cosmopolitans

    No full text
The central argument of Banu Özkazanc-Pan’s book, Transnational Migration and the New Subjects of Work is that insights and concepts from transnational migration studies can offer an alternative and much more nuanced understanding, not only of transmigrants, but also of work and organizations, than the concepts in the mainstream management and organizational literature. The most important contribution of this book, for me, is its analysis of mainstream diversity research. The author clearly reveals its limitations both in general, and in particular when it comes to transmigrants. This analysis is absolutely necessary in order to contribute to what the author perceives as the basic goal, which is “to remake the whole enterprise of research on diversity, culture, and difference in the context of management and organization studies” (p. 119). This is a very ambitious goal, and if achieved, it might indeed lead to more emancipatory practices of organizing

The author discusses the issues related to the European standards of editing and publishing periodicals with special emphasis on scientific and scientific-professional journals in the field of public administration. The paper contains a report from the meeting hosting editors of journals dealing with public administration and public management held in Madrid in September 2007, and a report form the round table hosting editors of journals dealing with social sciences held in Zadar in September 2007. The author has made general conclusions from both meetings and discusses some important issues related to the process of editing and publishing scientific journals. Special emphasis is put on the influence of ICT on the editorial process; recognition of editorial work as part of scientific performance and association of editors into editors’ associations; integrating journals into international networks; simplification of the editorial process; and the issue of language in scientific journals in relation to the widespread influence of the English language. Finally, the author analyses the journal Croatian Public Administration in relation to the above mentioned development tendencies and detects the areas where there is room for editorial improvements

Unraveling Supply-Driven Business Models of Architectural Firms

    No full text
Architectural firms deliver services for various, unique projects that are all characterized by a high level of uncertainty. To successfully propose, create and capture value, they need business models that are able to deal with this variety and uncertainty. So far, little is known about the different business models that are used in architectural service delivery and how they enable or constrain firms to create and capture value in their projects. To continuously compete in a changing and competitive environment, this insight is much needed. In this research, a theoretical framework is developed to study the business of architectural firms. The framework is used to systematically unravel the business models for three types of value proposition that were identified from interview data collected at 22 Dutch architectural firms. The focus is on a supply-driven context. Findings highlight the importance of financial knowledge, capital-intensive partners, support of influential actors and a relationship with the buyer. Resources that are beneficial to the firm’s value creation, can sometimes constrain the firm’s value capture. The contribution of this research is a profound insight into the pitfalls and opportunities of business models for supply-driven architectural service delivery. It helps architectural firms to develop future business model alternatives and to enhance benefits from the offer of unique, creative value propositions.Design & Construction ManagementPublic CommissioningManagement in the Built Environmen

The Agency of Blaise Magyar, the Ban of Bosnia, Dalmatia, Croatia and Slavonia, during his First Term of Duty (1470-1472). A Contribution to Research into Performing the Duties of a Ban in the Late Fifteenth Century

    No full text
In this article, the author explores the activities of Blaise Magyar, a military commander of King Matthias Corvinus, who became the Ban of Slavonia, Croatia and Dalmatia in 1470 and performed this duty until 1472. Therefore the main focus of the research is based on detecting and interpreting the administrative, judicial and military activities of Blaise Magyar during his service. The judicial activities of the aforementioned ban are presented through the judicial procedures of the octaval courts, in which the highest judicial instance was the ban himself. The courts sat regularly in session four times per year in the seats of major Slavonian counties, i.e. in Križevci or in Zagreb. Other administrative activities that were not associated with the institution of the octaval courts were performed by the ban while perambulating the areas of the County of Križevci and of Zagreb in the period between his presiding over the octaval courts. Since the period covers turbulent times, in which the king was still trying to consolidate his royal power and authority over various rebellious noblemen, with the constant presence of the Ottoman threat, the author also depicts the political and military activities of Ban Blaise. Simultaneously with the process of the king’s strategy of installing two persons simultaneously in the position of Slavonian ban, the author also places an emphasis on the activities of Blaise Magyar when sharing his office and dignity with Damian Horvat of Litva. Considering that every person installed in the position of the ban had the right to elect his own vice-ban, the author provides an explanation of the system of their appointments as it worked in practice. Another important emphasis is placed on the question of the ban’s itinerary (depicted in Appendix 3) and the usage of the ban’s seal as an important sign of the ban’s power
