Eco-Theology; Habits and Lifestyle of Santri in Indonesian Islamic Boarding Schools

    No full text
This article examines how the intersection of eco-theological concepts influences the attitudes and behavior of students to be environmentally conscious. This explores the gap in the role of religion in efforts to protect the environment which are still considered insignificant. This study uses a qualitative method by interviewing 20 students at one of the Islamic boarding schools in Surabaya who have applied eco-theology in Islamic boarding school education. Even though in concept religion has an influence on health, this is limited and focused on internalizing the concept of eco-theology in students. The results of this study show a pretty good improvement for students who do understand the concept of eco-theology, and this is one of the efforts to overcome environmental problems from a religious perspective, especially in Islamic boarding schools

In Silico Detection of Antimicrobial Resistance and Virulence Genes in Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Clinical Isolates: A Comparative Genomics Approach

    Get PDF
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) remains a formidable threat in both community and healthcare settings, thanks to its ability to evade β-lactam antibiotics and accumulate resistance to multiple drug classes. Here, we sequenced and compared the genomes of 13 recent clinical MRSA isolates alongside two well-characterized reference strains (N315 and NCTC 8325). By applying the ResFinder and VirulenceFinder pipelines, we rapidly cataloged each strain’s antibiotic resistance and virulence repertoire. Every MRSA isolate carried the hallmark mecA gene, and most also harbored blaZ, which encodes penicillinase. Resistance determinants for aminoglycosides (aac(6′)-Ie-aph(2″), aph(3′)-III), macrolides (erm(C), mph(C)), and chloramphenicol (cat variants) appeared in various combinations across the collection. On the virulence side, genes for α- and γ-hemolysins (hla, hlgABC) were universal, and nearly all strains possessed phage-encoded immune-evasion factors (sak, scn). The total count of virulence genes ranged from ten to fourteen per genome, peaking in two particularly gene-rich isolates. Our findings highlight the genetic diversity of MRSA, where multidrug resistance and a broad toxin arsenal coexist. Moreover, this study underscores the speed and reliability of in silico screening tools for antimicrobial-resistance surveillance and comparative genomics. Future work should integrate laboratory assays and patient data to link these genomic profiles to clinical outcomes

NEW PRIMER DESIGN of MULTIPLEX POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION (PCR) for DETECTION of Escherichia Coli and Salmonella Enterica in FOOD SAMPLE

    Get PDF
Background: Multiplex PCR techniques are used to detect multiple pathogens at the same time simultaneously. In order to achieve the specificity and sensitivity of detection, it is important to optimize the multiplex PCR method properly. Developing suitable primers and optimizing PCR temperature to boost particular genes from pathogens are key factors for this optimization. Methods: For the simultaneous detection of Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica in food samples, this research aims to develop a set of primers for multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Using Primer-BLAST software, the study utilizes specific primer designs for the phoA gene (Eschericia coli) and invA gene (Salmonella enterica). DNA isolation has confirmed successful extraction from the two bacterial samples. PCR was performed under different conditions, including Singleplex and Multiplex PCR, using two annealing temperatures of 53oC and 50oC. Results: The results showed that this method can effectively amplify target genes and indicate their specificity and reliability at both temperature levels. Given these results, it has successfully conducted multiplex PCR using the built primer pairs. Both annealing temperatures of 50oC and 53oC can be used to perform multiplex PCR to detect E. coli and Salmonella enterica in one PCR reaction. Conclusion: Through this research, we have created a new set of Multiplex PCR Primers and an optimized multiplex PCR technique for the simultaneous detection of E coli and Salmonella enterica in food samples. The rapid and simultaneous screening of E. coli and S. enterica, which contributes to improved food safety measures and pathogen detection in the food industry, is promising with this optimized PCR approach

Plurality In Academic Tradition: The Case of Lecturers? Educational Background at the Graduate School Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta from 1982-2014

    No full text
This book initially was a research which is completed and submitted to the Graduate School Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta, as a partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Islamic Education. The idea of the book originated primarily from a reality that diversity occurs in all educational levels. For the UIN cases, the phenomena of diversity can be noticed from its academic community; whether it comes from different social or religious organizations, educational background, cultural or ethnicity, countries or even religions. Hence, as a unique institution which produces a distinct tradition of Islamic studies, the UIN provide lecturers with different scholarly tradition; either graduated from the Eastern, Western or local universities. To that end, I performed a research and focused merely on lecturers? educational background to understand further how they dealt with differences, in particular concerning the impact on students? work. I presumed that lecturers struggled with internal conflicts since the background has different educational tradition. The Western, Eastern and local educational traditions have been explored further in this book chapter to help readers understand these different entities respectively. By exploring the notion of collaboration which closely related with conflict resolution, I ended up with a conclusion that the East-West tension nowadays have been melted, although not entirely. I argued that lecturers? collaboration not only can be traced through the intrapersonal or interpersonal aspects. The need to combined those two levels with an additional aspect, the epistemological dimension; become substantial. This statement can be verified since the epistemological dimension of lecturers? educational background becomes the basis on both side to work collaboratively. This general finding indicated that two salient factors that support the process of lecturers? collaboration, including their background as a pesantren graduates and their participation to promote the Indonesian Islam. By having a team-work, they construct the idea to promote the moderate culture amid academic community. With this finding, I reaffirm a general statement which declared the Graduate School UIN Jakarta as a smelting place. My hope that these findings will give a positive contribution on discussion toward research on East-West relationship, diversity and equity, lecturers? collaboration, and professional communities. In view of that, I realized that this research to some degree is a collaboration of so many people whom I cannot mention their names one by one proportionally in this acknowledgment.
