Modified Higuchi Model Applied to Permeation Prediction of Nanocomposite Membranes
AbstractIn this work, the existing Higuchi models were used for the prediction of gas permeability through the nanocomposite membranes. Predicted values were compared with experimental results of permeability for polycarbonate/silica nanocomposite membranes. Based on the critical analysis of the models predictions and its deviations, the parameter that influences the permeation behavior has been identified. The results revealed that for any particular gas, the change of empirical Higuchi parameter exhibited a direct impact on the accuracy the model. Thus, a modified parameter was incorporated on the modified Higuchi model relating to the intrinsic properties of the penetrant gas. With the new proposed Higuchi model, appreciable predictions of gas permeability through polycarbonate/silica nanocomposite membranes were achieved. The calculated absolute average relative error for CO2, N2 and CH4 gas permeability were found to be 7.18%, 6.07%, and 6.14%, respectively. Their corresponding standard deviations were obtained as 2.53, 1.53 and 0.73 Comparing the existing Higuchi models predictions, the new proposed Higuchi model has resulted to a reduction in relative errors by 6.3% for CO2, 70.66% for N2, and 65.25% for CH4

In darkness and seclusion : rhetoric of madness and problems of modernity in the works of Higuchi Ichiyō (1872-1896)
The author attempts to analyse how madness is aestheticized and poeticized in the late novellas by Higuchi Ichiyō (1872-1896). While referring to the concept of illness as a metaphor as developed by Susan Sontag and applied to the Japanese context by Karatani Kōjin, the author elaborates on the evocative and symbolic images of madness in Ichiyō’s works. The possible correspondences between the analyzed metaphors and the discourse of modernity in Meiji Japan are also considered Higuchi
Caracterização de filmes de EMA e EMA/PCL-T e aplicação em sistemas de liberação controlada de fármacos

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Química.Filmes de (poli(etileno-co-metil acrilato) (EMA) e EMA/poli(caprolactona-triol)(PCL-T) foram caracterizados em relação as suas características térmicas, mecânicas, de intumescimento, interações fármaco-polímero e aplicação na liberação controlada de fármacos. O aumento no teor de metil acrilato nos filmes de EMA promoveu redução da cristalinidade, diminuição da tensão máxima, aumento da capacidade de elongação e no módulo de elasticidade, aumento na capacidade de intumescimento dos filmes em etanol e favorecimento da permeação dos fármacos, paracetamol, ibuprofeno e cloridrato de diltiazem (DZ). A aumento da fração de etanol/água utilizado como solvente para solubilizar o fármaco promoveu aumento do coeficiente de permeabilidade do cloridrato de diltiazem fator influenciado pelo maior intumescimento do filme. Os resultados de DSC, FTIR e MEV demonstraram que os filmes de EMA/PCL-T variando em concentração de 100/0 até 60/40 são imiscíveis. O DZ quando incorporado aos filmes de EMA/PCL-T sofre redução progressiva do grau de cristalinidade com a adição de PCL-T. Este efeito é associado à interações da PCL-T com o grupamento iônico da amina terciária observados por FTIR. A progesterona (PG) quando incorporada aos filmes de EMA/PCL-T sofre redução para 5% de cristalinidade somente com a presença de EMA, a adição progressiva de PCL - T não promoveu efeito aditivo sobre esta propriedade. Os filmes EMA/PCL-T/DZ 80/0/20 e 70/10/20 apresentaram baixíssima liberação do fármaco incorporado, contudo os filmes 60/20/20 e 50/30/20 apresentaram mecanismo de liberação anômalo. Os filmes de EMA/PCL-T/PG, 80/0/20, 70/10/20, 60/20/20 e 50/30/20 apresentaram total liberação do fármaco incorporado em 48 horas e o mecanismo de liberação segue o comportamento descrito por HIGUCHI

We show that static sources coupled to a massless scalar field in Schwarzschild spacetime give rise to emission and absorption of zero-energy particles due to the presence of Hawking radiation. This is in complete analogy with the description of the bremsstrahlung by a uniformly accelerated charge from the coaccelerated observers' point of view. The response rate of the source is found to coincide with that in Minkowski spacetime as a function of its proper acceleration.
