    No full text
This article contests the identification of Giovanni da Nono as the author of the Entrée d’Espagne, a hypothesis proposed in 1989 by André de Mandach. This revised hypothesis is based on a study of this scholar’s works and suggests on the contrary that the author of the Entrée knew da Nono’s De hedificatione and implicitly criticized it in his own work, a conclusion based on onomastic analysis of the characters in De edificazione urbis Phatolomie

Laurent Feneyrou proposes a referential and conceptual analysis of Luigi Nono's study for the «islands » that form the basis of his last opera : Prometeo. Wishing to position his analysis in a history of cultural symptoms, the author sketches the threads between this study and the philosophical works of the «librettist », Massimo Cacciari. The documents of the genesis of Prometeo open up a space for dialogue between multiple references : to painting (the works of Tintoretto, Goethe's and Itten's theories of colour), to littérature (the Frankfurter Ausgabe of Hôlderlin, the works of Edmond Jabès), to the history of music (Tallis, Schumann, Bellini, Wagner ...), to philosophy. Nono's opera calls for cross-perspectives that seem to question the very notion of «avant-texte ».Laurent Feneyrou propone un' analisi referenziale e concettuale su uno studio che riguarda le "isole" che stanno alla base dell'ultima opera di Luigi Nono : Prometeo.

    No full text
This article seeks to examine some of the problematic issues surrounding the term “postmodern.” The late work of Luigi Nono (1926-1990) provides an interesting foil to such a study. Works such as Omaggio a György Kurtág (1983-1986) and Fragmente-Stille, an Diotima (1980) shocked and surprised many of Nono’s long-time collaborators. The fragmentary forms and intensely intimate nature of this music created the impression that a profound rupture had occurred in the composer’s stylistic and technical development. This presumed rupture was perceived by many commentators as indicative of the apparent decline of modernism (the 20th century avant-garde), and of the beginning of a new, so-called postmodern approach to art and culture. The author first demonstrates that the appearance of rupture in Nono’s personal development is overstated. Secondly, he discusses the fact that a concept of postmodern music is misleading in that it turns attention away from important aspects of continuity in music composed during the final decades of the 20th century

The «Liber de hedificatione urbis Phatolomie» is a short prose work written in Latin by Paduan judge Giovanni da Nono around the second decade of 14th century. It tells a foundation of Padua by noble Greeks set more than a generation before the Trojan War. It is comparable in many ways to the contemporary Franco-Italian literary production. The historical introduction to Giovanni da Nono’s work given in this thesis some aspects of the cultural context underneath De hedificatione are investigated, focusing on its relationship with the traditional legend of foundation by Trojan Antenor. De hedificatione reveals itself as built by its author in opposition to the Antenor legend. Further research deals with recognizing the sources used by Giovanni da Nono to build his Armenian-based narrative. After this introduction the critical edition is given together with an Italian translation; before it, the thesis comprise a careful study of the manuscript tradition leading to an attempt to resolve the issue given by the fact it is strongly contaminated

Functional Domains of NEAT1 Architectural lncRNA Induce Paraspeckle Assembly through Phase Separation

    No full text
A class of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) has architectural functions in nuclear body construction; however, specific RNA domains dictating their architectural functions remain uninvestigated. Here, we identified the domains of the architectural NEAT1 lncRNA that construct paraspeckles. Systematic deletion of NEAT1 portions using CRISPR/Cas9 in haploid cells revealed modular domains of NEAT1 important for RNA stability, isoform switching, and paraspeckle assembly. The middle domain, containing functionally redundant subdomains, was responsible for paraspeckle assembly. Artificial tethering of the NONO protein to a NEAT1_2 mutant lacking the functional subdomains rescued paraspeckle assembly, and this required the NOPS dimerization domain of NONO. Paraspeckles exhibit phase-separated properties including susceptibility to 1,6-hexanediol treatment. RNA fragments of the NEAT1_2 subdomains preferentially bound NONO/SFPQ, leading to phase-separated aggregates in vitro. Thus, we demonstrate that the enrichment of NONO dimers on the redundant NEAT1_2 subdomains initiates construction of phase-separated paraspeckles, providing mechanistic insights into lncRNA-based nuclear body formation

Nonnus Panoplitanus was the author of Paraphrasis in Ioannis Evangelium, which is actually a translation, written in hexameters, of the biblical book. In this paper we translate and comment a fragment (10, 1-18). We also try to show, by this brief example, how the poet assumes the Greek literary tradition, with a view to express new contents. In our conclusion we make a comparison with three stanzas of El Evangelio criollo, an Argentinian poem which translated the Scripture with the meter of Martín Fierro (Argentina‘s national poem).Nono de Panópolis fue el autor de la Parafrasis del Evangelio de San Juan, que es en realidad una traducción, escrita en hexámetros del libro bíblico.

Roberto Gerhard’s Sound Compositions: A Historical-Philological Perspective. Archive, Process, Intent and reenactment

    No full text
This research advances the current state of knowledge in the field of early tape music both empirically and methodologically. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact that the electronic medium exerted in the musical thinking of Roberto Gerhard, one of the most outspoken, prolific and influential composers in the Spanish diaspora whose musical legacy, for the most part unknown, is a major landmark in the early history of electroacoustic music. Gerhard’s personal tape collection, one of the largest historical archives of its kind reported in the literature, is exceptional for both its antiquity (50+-year-old tapes) and its abundance of production materials. Through the digitisation and analysis of the composer’s tape collection this research argues that the empirical study of audio documents sets out a basis for a broader understanding of textual processes. More specifically, the research demonstrates that the reconstruction of works based on magnetic tape sketches is a powerful method to advance the understanding of early tape music. This research also examines Gerhard’s sound compositions in relation to the post-war context in which they were composed. Finally, this research presents performance documentation that proposes an approach to the electroacoustic music repertoire in which creativity is not at odds with rigor and critical discernment demonstrating that archival study can be closely aligned to the concept of re-enactment

A reação dos alunos ratifica a forma como a sociedade enxerga esses temas e esperamos, com nosso trabalho, contribuir para a construção de novas formas de se relacionar com essas questõesABSTRACT: Current study reflects a research developed for the professional master's degree program (Profletras/UEM/CAPES) based on the theoretical and methodological guidelines of Bakhtin's dialogical studies and foregrounded on the interaction and dialogical concept of language for teaching-learning of the Portuguese Language. It is also concerned with the insertion of multi-literacy practices with multi-semiotic texts in reading and linguistic analysis lectures. A proposal has been developed for didactic activities in reading and linguistic analysis of the genre meme in Year 9 of Basic Education in a government-run school. The study investigates the processes of elaboration and application of a didactic prototype (ROJO; MOURA, 2012) with the discursive genre meme in Year 9 in a public school and contributes towards the study of multi-literacy studies from the dialogical point of view of language. Current research was triggered by the following issue: why do Year 9 students fail to analyze critically the memes they share in the social networks and message exchange? A hypothesis was raised that if the teacher provides students with interactive situations in which they need develop critical reading, discourses on racism, machismo, bullying and homophobia experienced by society in general may be resignifies in multimodal texts. Current research is foregrounded on Bakhtin's studies on the enunciation and discursive genres (BAKHTIN, 2016; BAKHTIN, 1997; VOLOCHINOV, 2006), in studies on multi-literacy (MELO; ROJO, 2016; ROJO, 2005; 2009; 2012; ROJO; BARBOSA, 2015) and in the theoretical and methodological concepts related to reading and linguistic analysis within the dialogical perspective of language (GERALDI, 1991; HILA, 2009; MENEGASSI, 2010; 2008; PERFEITO, 2007; RITTER, 2012). Current research-action, qualitative-interpretative, ethnographic and applied investigation has been developed with Year 9 students of a public school in Ivaiporã PR Brazil. The author's experience as a teacher of the Portuguese Language in a government-run school that students share and enjoy discourses with contents featuring negative and biased aspects within social relationships. A didactic prototype has been prepared that would critically interpret these texts, re-signify their effects on society and analyze the manner students feel about them prior to and after analysis. Results show that students identify themselves more with discourses on racism and homophobia; they consider bullying a joke and fail to acknowledge machismo discourses. Students' reaction reveals the way society sees these themes. The author expects that current analysis may contribute towards the construction of new forms in dealing with such issue

NEAT1 scaffolds RNA-binding proteins and the Microprocessor to globally enhance pri-miRNA processing

    No full text
MicroRNA (miRNA) biogenesis is known to be modulated by a variety of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs), but in most cases, individual RBPs appear to influence the processing of a small subset of target miRNAs. Here, we report that the RNA-binding NONO-PSF heterodimer binds a large number of expressed pri-miRNAs in HeLa cells to globally enhance pri-miRNA processing by the Drosha-DGCR8 Microprocessor. NONO and PSF are key components of paraspeckles organized by the long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) NEAT1. We further demonstrate that NEAT1 also has a profound effect on global pri-miRNA processing. Mechanistic dissection reveals that NEAT1 broadly interacts with the NONO-PSF heterodimer as well as many other RBPs and that multiple RNA segments in NEAT1, including a 'pseudo pri-miRNA' near its 3 ' end, help attract the Microprocessor. These findings suggest a 'bird nest' model in which an lncRNA orchestrates efficient processing of potentially an entire class of small noncoding RNAs in the nucleus.National Key R&D Program of China [2017YFA0504400]; 111 Program of China [B06018]; NIH [HG004659, GM049369, GM052872]; National Natural Science Foundation of China [31000573]; Postdoctoral Science Foundation of China [20090451074]SCI(E)ARTICLE10816-+2
