The objective of the research was to study the interaction between soil moisture content and animal manure application on the growth of Mendong (Fimbristylis globulosa (Retz.) Kunt). The experiment was conducted in May until September 2016 in Kampung Lembur Sawah, Kamulyan Village, Manonjaya Subdistrict, Tasikmalaya Regency. A pot experiment was performed using a factorial design consisting of two factors and three replicates. The factors were soil moisture content (K) consisting of four levels i.e. k1 (100% field capacity (FC)), k2 (150% FC), k3 (200% FC), and k4 (250% FC); and animal manure application (P) consisting of p1 (cattle manure), p2 (broiler chicken manure), and p3 (sheep manure). The indicators of plant growth, i.e. plant height, number of tiller, fresh weight and dry weight of plant biomass, shoot/root ratio, percentage of the >75cm-long stems, water consumption, and water use efficiency (WUE) were measured. The results showed that there was an interaction effect between the soil moisture content and animal manure application on the number of tiller at 45 days after planting (DAP), the percentage of the >75 cm-long stems, and the water consumption. The sheep manure application at any levels of soil moisture content resulted in better effect on the growth of Mendong, water use efficiency, and quality of stem (the percentage of the >75cm-long stems). The soil moisture content above the field capacity resulted in better effect on the growth of Mendong, indicating that Mendong is more suitable to grow on the land with the soil moisture content above the field capacity or saturated soil during the whole growing period. Keywords: Manure, Mendong, soil moisture conten

Slægtens spor. Enok Mortensen: The danish Lutheran Church in America

Enok Mortensen, The Danish Lutheran Church in America (Philadelphia 1967. - Board of Publications, Lutheran Church in America, and Kirkehistoriske Studier, ed. by. Institut for dansk Kirkehistorie)Reviewed by Johannes Knudsen. The history of the emigration offers a particularly favourable basis for a study of the development of Grundtvig’s thoughts. Although Danish emigrants in North America in 1880— 1900 may have misunderstood and reinterpreted the Grundtvigian Church and Folk High-School heritage, their work was nevertheless characterized by a healthy primitiveness, forgotten and distorted in modern Denmark. I should dislike having the emigrants placed in a procrustean bed similar to the one which has been made for Grundtvig.Denmark still clings to colonies of an ecclesiastical or national description beyond the borders of the country, with the result that they are prevented from growing into the communities of which they have now become parts. In many respects the ecclesiastical development in Denmark has stagnated in self-satisfaction, whereas work is continued in the rest of the world. There seems to be a connection between this dogmatism and the fact that historians have inquired into the conditions of the emigrants too unrealistically. In my opinion it was a tragic mistake when 40 years ago the emigrant archives were taken to Denmark— the more so as no research is taking place there. The review has a quotation from Franklin Clark Fry, the world-famed chairman of the Lutheran Church in America who wrote the preface to Enok Mortensen’s book, where, with reference to the descendants of the emigrants, it is said that “love of humanity is bred in the marrow of their bones”.More than anybody else the author of the present work has dealt with ecclesiastical history from the Grundtvigian side in America, and for many years he was the official historian and archivist of the Danish Church. A sum was set aside for the purposes of research and publication, and the book is the result of a comparatively thorough work of research. The fact is that it had to appear in print before it would lose some of its interest after the union of the American Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the author himself was in the sixties. Accordingly, much material is left for examination, and it is to be hoped that the job will be taken up by others of the next generation. The book will keep its title as the work about the Danish Church in America, however. The author has acquitted himself extremely well as regards the somewhat delicate task of selecting subjects and judging people and situations. His many years’ experience as a writer of novels and stories makes itself felt. His narrative skill makes the book both fascinating and readable. Especially the last exciting years have been dealt with in a true and moving manner, although with a note of sadness. A more extensive study is required, however, also with regard to our understanding of the development in Denmark. To read this book is to do oneself a favour. It gives a true, sober, but also warm-hearted picture of a century when the Danish Lutheran Church, especially in its Grundtvigian shape, was planted in North American soil, grew, flowered, and bore fruit. It does not live independently any longer, but like the grain of wheat which is put into the soil and capable of germinating

Study of Root Exudate Organic Acids and Microbial Population in the Rhizosphere of Oil Palm Seedling

Mutual interaction between plants and microbes occured in the rhizosphere is expected to increase productivity of crops or soil fertility for agriculture. Plants excrete root exudates to attract microbes, and then microbes obtain habitat and food supply from plants and can fulfill the nutrient requirements through assisted enzymatic activity. The objective of the research was to study the types and amounts of root exudate organic acids, microbial population, and the relationship between root exudate organic acids and microbial population in the rhizosphere of oil palm seedlings. The study was conducted in a greenhouse using a planting medium of sterile quartz sand. The study was conducted using two factorials completely randomized design with three replications. The first factor was oil palm seedling age (control / no oil palm seed, 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months-old of oil palm seedlings) and the second factor was the periods of seedling growth (45, 90, 135 and 180 days), so in total there were 72 experimental units. The result of High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis revealed that four kinds of organic acids were observed in the rhizosphere of oil palm seedlings, with the highest concentration were: acetic acid (1.66 ppm), citric acid (0.157 ppm), malic acid (2.061 ppm) and oxalic acid (0.675) ppm. The highest total population of microbes, fungi, Azotobacter, phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) and phosphate solubilizing fungi (PSF) were 19.38 × 106 cfu g-1 soil, 3.28 × 104 cfu g-1 soil, 12.09 × 105 cfu g-1 soil, 8.39 × 104 cfu g-1 soil and 1.15 × 104 cfu g-1 soil, respectively. There are positive correlations between root exudate organic acids and total microbes, fungi, Azotobacter, PSB and PSF are. Keywords: microbes, organic acids, rhizosphere, root exudates</jats:p

ABSTRACT The agriculture stock market appears to have a bright future. Since the COVID-19 outbreak started, share issuers with investments reliant on agricultural commodities have shown significantly improved performance, which may be evidence of this. The goals of this study were to estimate expected returns, assess risk and return on investment, and classify efficient and inefficient stocks in agricultural sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Companies in the agricultural sector that underwent evaluation had comprehensive data that needed to be reviewed between January 2019 and December 2021, and they were listed on the IDX and main listing board. The Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) is a method for evaluating and discouraging individuals from making risky stock market investments. There were 15 companies selected. According to the evaluation's conclusions, 10 companies had stocks that could be purchased because they were inexpensive and efficient, while 5 companies had stocks that could be sold because they were inexpensive and inefficient (overvalued). &nbsp

    Den danske salme i Amerika

The Danish Hymn in AmericaBy Enok MortensenThis essay, the author of which has worked for the greater part of his life in the U.S.A. as a pastor in Danish churches, presents the background of the history of Grundtvig’s hymns in America up to the present day. First he emphasizes the importance of the fact that Danish emigrants nearly always took a hymn book with them, and that when he visited the sick and the old, they would be able to produce this, in most instances Roskilde Konvents Salmebog from 1855, the first to include Grundtvig’s hymns. Then a brief account is given of the hymn books published by the Danish immigrants themselves, since the establishment in 1872 of a Kirkelig Missionsforening (Evangelical Union) with the periodical Kirkelig Samler. It is true that in 1867 Louis Jørgen Hauge the Baptist had already published a hymn book entitled Psalmer og aandelige Sange and had himself translated or written a quarter of the 422 hymns. In 1910 the Mormons also produced a collection of Danish hymns and songs, entitled Sion Sange, including hymns by Grundtvig rewritten to the memory of Joseph Smith, the prophet, and his brother Hyrum. These non-Lutheran communities soon joined their American counterparts. The majority of Danish immigrants, however, preserved the connection with the Danish national church, used the services authorized in Denmark and the above-mentioned Danish hymn book, which was issued in several impressions by a publishing house in Blair, Nebraska.Among the new hymn books published in America the writer mentions especially the Dansk Folkesamfunds Sangbog, edited by Grundtvig’s son, the clergyman F. L. Grundtvig, which went through several impressions (the most recent in 1931) and which is still used. The publisher was convinced that Danish immigrants would make the best Americans by remaining Danish. Danish was also their language at home; but in the second and third generations English was adopted and people began to experiment with church services in English and with English translations of Danish hymns. The first rendering in English of a Danish hymn is Ingemann’s Igennem Nat og Trængsel (Through the night of doubt and sorrow), which had already been translated in 1867 by the hymnist Sabine Baring-Gould; it is also found in many American hymn books and is frequently sung. But the first translation of a Grundtvig hymn is that by Mary Elizabeth Fellowes of Tag det sorte Kors fra Graven (From the grave that dark cross take), of which the first and last verses are quoted. She also translated Vær velkommen, Herrens Aar (Welcome God’s year). None of her translations, however, have been included in any hymn book. The prosody is imperfect but her understanding of the content of the hymns is amazing. Not until 1927 did a Danish hymn book appear in English: Hymnal for Church and Home, which was last printed in 1954 and contained 454 hymns, of which 131 were translations from the Danish. These included 9 by Ingemann, 17 by Kingo, 37 by Brorson and 52 by Grundtvig, among them being Montgomery’s Du som gaar ud fra den levende Gud, retranslated into English.Among the translators special mention is made of the Danish-American pastors P. G. Poulsen, J. C. Aaberg and S. D. Rodholm together with the Norwego-American pastor Carl Doving. Many extracts from their translations are quoted and the translations themselves criticized. It seems, for instance, that Rodholm’s skill as a translator increased with the years; many of his hymns have been as deeply loved as the originals. Finally follow three translations of and comments on three Grundtvig polms by Dr. Johannes Knudsen who, like Dr. Enok Mortensen, the author, is a member of a committee appointed by the Danish Interest Conference of the Lutheran Church in America to cooperate with the Grundtvig Society on a three-volume edition in English of selections from Grundtvig’s works. When the Lutheran Churches in America united in 1960 and 1962, it was feared in Danish circles that the tone of the Danish hymns would be swamped by the multitude of American hymns. This fear was justified. The big common hymn book for Lutherans which was published in 1958 contained only 17 Danish hymns (out of a total of 602), including 1 by Brorson, 2 by Ingemann, 4 by Kingo and 7 by Grundtvig. None of Rodholm’s translations was among these. In the Danish Church (which was still functioning in 1958) an attempt was made to overcome this deficiency through a supplement, which is still used in many communities of Danish background. The translations were revised by a committee, thus giving expression to the justifiable criticism of new generations
