A Study of translated Chicklit novel entitled "Shopaholic Ties The Knot" by Sophie Kinsella
No full textThis thesis is about the translation of one translated popular fiction novel entitled "Shopaholic Ties the Knot" by Sophie Kinsella. In this novel, the writer would like to analyze the errors which caused the message of the original text are unable to be sent to the Target Language text. The writer would like to know whether those errors caused the problems in transferring message to the reader of the Target Language, so the reader could not get the same message as the original message. There are three causes found in the novel which caused errors in translating the sentences, so, there are changes in delivering the message to the Target Language text. The writer uses the theory from Zuchridin Suryawinata and Sugeng Hariyanto to support her main theory. This study is descriptive one and the writer collects the data from the original novel, "Shopaholic Ties the Knot" English version and the Indonesian translation, with the same author. In this thesis the writer gives the suggestions based on the Communicative Translation theory. The writer uses the Communicative Translation theory by Peter Newmark. She wants to know whether the translated chicklit novel entitled "Shopaholic Ties the Knot" by Sophie Kinsella has a good quality of translation based on the Communicative Translation theory. The findings of the analysis reveal that the message of the translated chicklit novel entitled "Shopaholic Ties the Knot" by Sophie Kinsella has already been transferred well. Although there are some errors found in the novel, they do not influence the story. At last, the writer concludes that the translated novel has been already translated well

Szakdolgozatom írásakor műfordítás készítésére adtam a fejemet, mely alapjául Sophie Kinsella: Surprise Me című regénye szolgált. A fordítás során az elsődleges célom az volt, hogy lehetőleg egy olyan műfordítást készítsek, ami épp olyan könnyen olvasható és élvezhető, mint az eredeti, nem „angolszagú,” de mégis hű a forrásnyelvi szöveghez, mind tartalmi, mind szerkezeti szempontból.
Olyan buktatókkal kellett megbirkóznom, mint az eredeti nyelven sem létező – azaz a szerző által kitalált szavak – értelmezése és idegennyelvre való megfelelő átültetése, a családi viszonyokat jól jellemző megnevezések találó fordítása, egy a regény során felmerülő fiktív könyv címének fordítása vagy „nem fordítása,” a tegezés-magázás kérdésköre, az eredetiben előforduló obszcén kifejezések átültetése magyar nyelvre, és végül de nem utolsó sorban, a mű elbeszélésmódja, amely egyesszám első személyben, jelen időben íródott.

No full textNovel is one of social documents that reflects a society�s condition in a
period of time including chicklit. Chicklit is a new genre of popular novels which
describes the urban everyday life in modern time. For describing the urban
everyday life, its linguistic features differ from other genre novels and even other
popular novels. Its linguistic features refer to the use of colloquial language. In
this research, the writer attempts to identify its linguistic features and functions
which are seen from the main form i.e its lexical and grammatical features.
The process of analyzing its lexical and grammatical forms as well as its
functions is done by using qualitative descriptive method to an English chicklit
pioneer chicklit entitled Mini Shopaholic written by Sophie Kinsella. The data is
collected by analyzing the linguistic content then followed by recording it. The
technique of analyzing data is done based on Guba and Lincoln theory. It is then
followed by studying and comparing the data to know the lexical dan grammatical
features and functions found in the research. The data are then examined by
paraphrasing them when interpreting dan describing the result.
The result of theresearch shows that the lexical features found cover (1)

Get PDFThis research deals with the hedonism in ‘Confessions of A Shopaholic’ novel by
Sophie Kinsella. The objectives are to find out the hedonism, the kinds of
hedonism from the main character of the novel, which the researcher wants to
convey to the readers. The study was conducted by applying qualitative research.
Data that uses this study are primary data: the data were reached from the
‘Confessions of A Shopaholic’ novel. Then, secondary data were reached from
literature review, and other sources information that related to object of this
research. The technique for collecting the data was documentary technique. After
analyzing the novel, it was found four of kinds Hedonism, they are: (1). Aesthetic
Hedonism 31 cases, (2) Ethical Hedonism 1 cases, (3) Piety Hedonism 1 cases, (4)
Egoistic Hedonism 17 cases. The main character is the character plays the most
role important in a story. The criterion of hedonism in the main character is
everything including physical, wealth, consumption, or anything that can be judge
by money. in other words: Happy is the same with pleasure.
Based on the result above, readers that can develop and increase knowledge about
all the aspect of hedonism and the kinds of hedonism in the novel. This study is
also useful in teaching learning process such as studying in literature as a

O objetivo deste trabalho é fazer a tradução de trechos da obra que contenham comidas e bebidas. Para realizar este trabalho, foram selecionados vinte termos, que foram traduzidos para o português do Brasil. Posteriormente, foi realizada a análise dessa tradução à luz dos procedimentos técnicos de Barbosa (2004). Foram consideradas também as contribuições teóricas de outros autores, como Toury (1995), Even-Zohar (1990), Bassnett (2003), Newmark (1988), Britto (2010). Os dados indicam os procedimentos tradutórios de estrangeirismo e de tradução literal foram os mais utilizados nos exemplos analisados, bem como foi possível concluir que o tradutor atua como mediador linguístico e cultural entre o texto de partida e o texto de chegada.This paper is about the translation from English to Portuguese of the novel Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. It was published by Bantam Dell, in New York, 2003. The objective was to translate part of the book and these parts contained words about food and beverages. The methodology was to collect twenty words and translate twenty pages of the book that had the context of these words. After that, the translation was analyzed from the point of view of translation theory written by Barbosa (2004). Moreover, this paper was based on studies written by Toury (1995), Even-Zohar (1990), Bassnett (2003), Newmark (1988), Britto (2010), and others authors. The data show that the literal translation and borrowing were the most used translation techniques in the examples; also, the translator works in the linguistic and cultural field from source text into target text
The Struggles of Audrey Against Her Anxiety Disorder in The Novel Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella: Anxiety Disorder
Get PDFThis research discussed the struggles of Audrey against her anxiety disorder in the novel Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella. This study aimed to describe the triggers of Audrey’s anxiety and to explain the internal and external conflicts reflected in the novel. This research used psychoanalysis theory by Sigmund Freud and the internal and external conflicts theory by Robert Stanton. This research used qualitative descriptive as its method. The findings showed that Audrey were depressed as the effect of bullying. She experienced 10 of 15 acts of the action indicators of anxiety disorder. From those actions, the researcher concluded that there are two major disadvantages of having anxiety disorders found and portrayed through the main character of the novel, which are having difficulty in carrying out daily activities and inability to interact normally with others.
