Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
The government stabilization programme and inflationary expectations in a society
In Poland the shock stabilization programme supported by the IMF encountered a social barrier in the shape of opposition to the government anti-inflationary policies. The author seeks to indicate factors impeding the effectiveness of the restrictive macroeconomic policy when the social system is undergoing sudden transformation. These factors are associated with the market infrastructure which makes it impossible to introduce a general income tax, and in the instrumental approach to the smooth functioning of households. The article aims to explain the sources of the high inflationary expectations in the Republic of Poland on a basis of random public opinion surveys.Inflation political inflationary cycle IMF stabilization programme

Modelling of impulse loading in high-temperature superconductors. Assessment of accuracy and performance of computational techniques.
Purpose – The aim of this paper is to access performance of existing computational techniques to model strongly non-linear field diffusion problems. Design/methodology/approach – Multidimensional application of a finite volume front-fixing method to various front-type problems with moving boundaries and non-linear material properties is discussed. Advantages and implementation problems of the technique are highlighted by comparing the front-fixing method with computations using fixed grids. Particular attention is focused on conservation properties of the algorithm and accurate solutions close to the moving boundaries. The algorithm is tested using analytical solutions of diffusion problems with cylindrical symmetry with both spatial and temporal accuracy analysed. Findings – Several advantages are identified in using a front-fixing method for modelling of impulse phenomena in high-temperature superconductors (HTS), namely high accuracy can be obtained with a small number of grid points, and standard numerical methods for convection problems with diffusion can be utilised. Approximately, first order of spatial accuracy is found for all methods (stationary or mobile grids) for 2D problems with impulse events. Nevertheless, errors resulting from a front-fixing technique are much smaller in comparison with fixed grids. Fractional steps method is proved to be an effective algorithm for solving the equations obtained. A symmetrisation procedure has to be introduced to eliminate a directional bias for a standard asymmetric split in diffusion processes. Originality/value – This paper for the first time compares in detail advantages and implementation complications of a front-fixing method when applied to the front-type field diffusion problems common to HTS. Particular attention is paid to accurate solutions in the region close to the moving front where rapid changes in material properties are responsible for large computational errors. Jan Ptaszycki (1854-1912)
Depmana (1960), którzy znali go osobiście. Jan Ptaszycki was a Polish mathematician working in St. Petersburg in the period 1876–1912. In Poland, he is forgotten, and in Russia considered generally as a Russian mathematician, known there as Ivan Lvovich Ptaszycki. In Russian literature about history of mathematics, depending on the author, it is reported that Ptaszycki was a Russian mathematician or, more rarely, a Polish mathematician as, for example, in Lokot (2015, 2018). The important information about Ptaszycki comes from the obituaries of K. A. Posse (1912) and S. Dickstein (1912) and from the memoirs of I. Ja. Depman (1960), that is from people who knew him personally. We wanted to make known to the contemporary reader this forgotten Polish mathematician working in St. Petersburg. This article tries to reach his work and achievement in mathematics as well as information about his activity. After discussing his biography, we briefly discuss his mathematical work. At the end of this paper, we quote articles and books related to Ptaszycki scientific achievements and we present a full list of his published works and books, and also references where one can find information about him.Validerad;2019;Nivå 1;2019-08-20 (johcin)</p

Personality of author in his creation
In the submitted thesis the author tries to answer the questions which arose during her authorship practice. What does stagingone´s own life experience consist in? What does the danger of its publishing consist in? In what form does it exist or where is the boarder between the theatre form and subjective narration? What is the authenticity? Is the authenticity an automatic consequence of personal involvement? What does it bear to approach the character with distance or very closely?
In the first part the author tries to gather specific experience as the basis of thought on the possibilities and the sense of the creation emerging in connection of certain limits, in the play with fate. In the second part she describes her own experience in this area. In the third part the author returns to the questions which were appearing gradually
Hydrologic variability and its influence on long‐term peat dynamics
Peatlands are carbon‐rich ecosystems that are extensive in the northern high latitudes where significant 21st century climate changes are expected. In response to climate change, peatlands may become a net source of greenhouse gases, thereby inducing a positive climate feedback effect. In this paper, the impact of precipitation variability and the mean climate state on long‐term peat accumulation is investigated with model simulations. The models couple peat accumulation with the hydrological cycle, which results in peatland bistability, where peatlands may take the physical characteristics from one of two possible alternative stable states. The models consider precipitation as a stochastic forcing variable, temperature‐dependent functions and are parameterized with climatology and peat characteristics to represent the West Siberian Lowlands (WSL) between 55°N and 60°N. Observed WSL peat depths statistically imply bistability. Peatland bistability, however, is eliminated in model simulations with moderate‐to‐large precipitation variability and warmer and wetter climates. This suggests that projected late 21st century climate change would put the thick peatlands in WSL on a transition to thin peatlands. The loss of thick peatlands could significantly increase atmospheric carbon dioxide and provide a positive climate feedback effect. However, the impacts depend on the importance of unaccounted stabilizing factors. The study also shows that precipitation variability induces peatlands to switch between extended periods of accumulation and depletion even if the peatlands are in long‐term equilibrium. Thus, short‐term observations may see only natural fluctuations and new, longer‐term observational strategies are necessary to diagnose if peatlands are undergoing fundamental changes.Rennermalm, Asa K., Nordbotten, Jan M., and Wood, Eric F., "Hydrologic variability and its influence on long‐term peat dynamics."
