Competition law, innovation and antitrust: an analysis of tying and technological integration

    No full text
This innovative book assesses the hotly debated topic of tying from three different perspectives: competition law, economics and intellectual property rights. It highlights the faults and benefits to tying under EC competition law and US antitrust law. In the light of modern economic thinking, the recent review of Article 82 EC, and Sherman Act, Section 2, the author identifies a more economic approach to tying that moves away from the per se illegality label that has so far impinged on tying case law.Hedvig Schmidt recognizes the significance that tying can play on innovation and product development, and thus suggests a new approach which carves out a safe haven for technological integrated products to ensure continuous stimulation of innovation. With comparative assessments and investigations, this book is a must-read for academics specialising in competition law and theory, as well as practitioners and policy-makers of competition law and intellectual property

Au-delà de la peur, au-delà de la souffrance, l’auteur pose un regard lucide sur la vie et ses dérapages, avec distance, courage et humour.« If it was just me, if it was just about me. I would make it. I’ll work it out being ill. I can live and think of death. I can stand the pain, that I’m being fed and having my bottom wiped. But, it’s also the others, family, the children, parents, sisters and brothers, nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbours, acquaintances... and the unknown.» Mother of three, Tina Jansson suffers from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis since 2006. Translated from Swedish to French by her cousin Hedvig Brorsson-Jakobiak, her testimony invites us to share the intimacy of this disease, also called the Lou Gehrig’s disease, through a collection of daily chronicles. Beyond the fear, beyond suffering, the author poses a clear look on life and its skids, with distance courage and humour.</p

Escaperoom i geometri; Finn sporene i Finnskogen

    No full text
Title: Geometry Escaperoom; Tracing clues in Finnskogen In this entrepreneurial master's thesis, an analog escape room focused on geometry has been developed. The product is designed for use at the secondary school level, with mathematical content linked to the 9th-grade curriculum and the core element of exploration and problem-solving. The educational aim of the product is to facilitate learning in plane geometry. Additionally, we have established three design principles for the escape room: •The escape room should be functional and user-friendly. •The escape room should promote problem-solving in plane geometry. •The escape room should foster collaborative learning. The master's thesis is grounded in theories related to escape rooms as a learning method, problem-solving tasks, and collaborative learning. The product was developed through three cycles of testing and is rooted in educational design research. The first two tests were conducted in two different 9th-grade classes, and the final test involved a teacher at the same level. Observations and interviews were used to gather data, which was subsequently analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that the escape room is functional and user-friendly, the tasks have a high level of cognitive demand, and they facilitate problem-solving and collaborative learning. The escape room contains five tasks, in addition to a final solution task. There is limited empirical evidence to assess the learning effect and the degree of collaborative learning associated with the use of the escape room. There is room for further development of the tasks and design, as well as a need to investigate the learning effects of its use in mathematics education

Me and My Dead Body: Death, Secularism, and Simultaneity

    No full text
In this chapter, thoughts around death are explored through a peer interview study with 11 Swedes. They belong to the network of the author and are predominantly middle-class and middle-aged, and they showed themselves to be very secular. This secularism is then problematized, and three themes are analyzed—a secular respect for the dead body, cremation as a rational choice, and one example of an irrational resistance to donating one’s organs. An understanding of the Swedish context is deepened. The way death can be surrounded by religious and non-religious aspects at the same time is explored through the concept of “simultaneity.”</p

Before The Wooden Prince: Károly Szabados's Ballet Vióra (1891) in the Context of the History of Hungarian Ballet

    No full text
Following the debut of Károly Szabados's ballet Vióra on March 14, 1891, the daily newspaper Pesti Hírlap called the date a glorious day not only for Hungarian music, but also for Hungarian genius and spirit in general, and treated the debut at the Hungarian Royal Opera House in Budapest as an allegory for spring: “It was as if the refreshing, revitalizing breaths of that traditional March breeze had blown across the hall of muses on Andrássy Road: such was the enthusiasm dominating the spectators' benches and the stage alike.”1 According to the newspaper, it was the long-anticipated victory of “the Hungarian genius, which some had begun to consider as almost alien to the Hungarian royal theater,” and it was all thanks to Géza Zichy (1849–1924), one of whose first acts as intendant was bringing this long neglected piece to the stage.2 In the context of Vióra 's premiere, the “Hungarian genius” and the “Hungarian spirit” manifested on several levels, as it was the decision of a Hungarian intendant to present the evening-long ballet of a Hungarian author revolving around Hungarian themes; but this raises the question, why did a Hungarian ballet carry such significance at the time? What place does Károly Szabados, the author of the ballet, occupy in the history of Hungarian music, and how was the ballet and its music received by contemporaries in and out of the limelight? This study attempts to answer these questions by examining contemporary Hungarian and German news articles and music critiques published in Budapest

“The Small Point through which Time Passes” [Elektronisk resurs] : Art and Artistic Practices in Former Mental Healthcare Institutions

    No full text
Artistic practices are increasingly used by and integrated into the management of cultural heritage. In the chapter the author explores the associations made between mental health and artistic creativity, as well as the inclusion of contemporary art and artistic practices in sites with a complex history, such as former psychiatric hospitals. The article is based on a research project about the redevelopment of Ulleråker, a former psychiatric hospital in Sweden. Photographic practices in abandoned sites, patients’ art, artistic interventions in the Museum of Medical History, as well as the pre-study work by artist Camille Norment and the public artwork by Lies-Marie Hoffman, are discussed in relation to heritage management and the concept of third-time. The article shows how artistic practices in Ulleråker and similar sites, such as Beckomberga and Lillhagen, have in different ways helped to negotiate time as well as complex histories, when the sites are deinstitutionalised and turned into offices and housing.</p

Re-entering the house : Scenographic and artistic interventions and interactions in the historic house museum

    No full text
Scenographic and artistic interventions and interactions have gained in significance within the fields of exhibition and museum design since the 1990s. This article specifically focuses on historic house museums, and how they use their theatrical and scenographic assets in order to recharge and reinvent themselves. The author discusses the different aims and tasks these interventions and interactions take on, and the attitudes that make them happen. Further, the author argues that the field of art history should address these changes in museological practice, and should investigate new possible readings of the historic house, the objects within, and artistic interventions. This would also show the relevance of art history to the field of critical heritage studies in a period that is characterized by the heritage boom and the new experience industry
