The indetermination of the criminal compliance and the principle of legality [La indeterminación del criminal compliance y el principio de legalidad]

    No full text
This paper is a critical analysis of the statutory regulation of criminal compliance models in criminal law. In the following pages, the author maintains that the model imposed in Act No. 20.393 has serious determination problems, which affect the principle of legality in its attribute of lex certa. The creation of an enforced self-regulation model with unclear or incomplete obligations, cannot justify the imposition of criminal sanctions in the case of their infraction. An analysis of other criminal compliance models in Chile and in other jurisdictions shows, that there are alternative regulatory techniques that preserve the legality principle. The author proposes the specification of the criminal compliance mandates through infra-legal provisions dictated by sectorial regulators, while respecting the constitutional requisites for incomplete penal statutes. © 2018 Centro Estudios Derecho Penal. Functional impact of cancer-associated mutations in the tumor suppressor protein ING4

    No full text
Inhibitor of growth 4 (ING4) is a member of the ING family of tumor suppressor proteins. In this study, we have analyzed the impact of two mutations in ING4 associated with human tumors (Y121N and N214D), testing their behavior in a series of functional, biochemical and structural analyses. We report that the N214D mutation dramatically dampened the ability of ING4 to inhibit proliferation, anchorage-independent growth or cell migration or to sensitize to cell death. In turn, the Y121N mutant did not differ significantly from wild-type ING4 in our assays. Neither of the mutations altered the normal subcellular localization of ING4, showing predominantly nuclear accumulation. We investigated the molecular basis of the defect in the activity of the N214D mutant. The folding and ability to bind histone marks of ING4 was not significantly altered by this mutation. Instead, we found that the functional impairment of the N214D mutant correlates with reduced protein stability due to increased proteasome-mediated degradation. In summary, our data demonstrates that a point mutation of ING4 associated to human tumors leads to the loss of several essential functions of ING4 pertinent to tumor protection and highlight the importance of ING4 function to prevent tumorigenesis. © The Author 2010. Currently, there is great demand for patients who requires treatment with bone integrable dental implants, however this situation is often hampered by the changes in the edentulous alveolar ridge, which may make the installation of the implant more complicated. The autogenous bone graft are current days the choice of treatments for patients with insufficient bone volume to receive implants and that to receive bone integrable implants. The purpose of this study was to evaluate retrospectively the use of autogenous bone graft in patients treated in the Surgery Area of Oral and Maxillofacial from the College of Dentistry of Piracicaba, by de State University of Campinas in the period July 2001 to July 2008. The results show that the intraoral donors areas were used in 95,1% of the cases, and that the maxillary tuberosity was used in 39.8% of the cases, the ascending branch in 31,4% and the mandibular symphysis in 28,8% of the cases. The "onlay" block graft was the most commonly technique employed (53,7%), followed by the particulate bone graft (36,6%) and by sinus lifting of the maxillary (9,7%). In conclusion, whenever possible we should choose intraoral donors areas, and in this work, these donors areas were the most commonly employed, and the maxillary tuberosity the most used.504221225Atwood, D.A., Reduction of residual ridges: a major oral disease entity (1971) J Prosthet Dent, 26, pp. 266-279Tallgren, A., The continuing reduction of the residual alveolar ridges in complete denture wearers: a mixed-longitudinal study covering 25 years (1972) J Prosthet Dent, 27, pp. 120-132Ashman, A., Bruins, P., Prevention of alveolar bone loss postextraction with HTR grafting material (1985) Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol, 60, pp. 146-153Hjorting-hansen, E., Adawy, A.M., Hillerup, S., The pattern of postoperative bone resorption following mandibular vestibulolingual sulcoplasty with free skin graft (1983) J Oral Maxillofac Surg, 41, pp. 358-364Piecuch, J.F., Segal, D., Grasso, J.E., Augmentation of the atrophic maxilla with interpositional autogenous bone grafts (1984) Maxillofac Surg, 12, pp. 133-138Misch, C.M., Comparison of intraoral donor sites for onlay grafting prior to implant placement (1997) Int J Oral Maxillofac Implants, 12, pp. 767-776Garg, A.K., Morales, M.J., Navarro, I., Duarte, F., Autogenous mandibular bone grafts in the treatment of the resorbed maxillary anterior alveolar ridge: rationale and approach (1998) Implant Dent, 7, pp. 169-176Lekholm, U., Gunne, J., Henry, P., Higuchi, K., Linden, U., Bergstrom, C., Steenberghe, D.V., Survival the Branemark Implant in partially. edentolous jaws: a 10-year prospective multicenter study (1999) Int J Oral and Maxillofac Implants, 14, pp. 639-645Keller, E.E., Eckert, S.E., Tolman, D.E., Maxillary antral and nasal one-stage inlay composite bone graft: preliminary report on 30 recipient sites (1994) J Oral Maxillofac Surg, 52, pp. 438-447Branemark, P.I., Lindstrom, J., Hallén, O., Breine, U., Jeppson, P.-h., Ohman, A., Reconstruction of the defective mandible (1975) Scand J Plast Reconstr Surg, 9, pp. 116-128Triplett, R.G., Schow, S.R., Autologous bone grafts and endosseous implants: complementary techniques (1996) J Oral Maxillofac Surg, 54, pp. 486-494Montazem, A., Valauri, D.V., St-Hilaire, H., Buchbinder, D., The mandibular symphysis as a donor site in maxillofacial bone grafting: a quantitative anatomic study (2000) J Oral Maxillofac Surg, 58, pp. 1368-1371Raghoebar, G.M., Batenburg, R.H.K., Vissink, A., Reintsema, H., Augmentation of localized defects of the anterior maxillary ridge with autogenous bone before insertion of implants (1996) J Oral Maxillofac Surg, 54, pp. 1180-1185Raghoebar, G.M., Meijndert, L., Kalk, W.W.I., Vissink, A., Morbidity of mandibular bone harvesting: a comparative study (2007) Int J Oral Maxillofac Implants, 22, pp. 359-365Serra E Silva, F.M., Cortez, A.L.V., Moreira, R.W.F., Mazzonetto, R., Complications of intraoral donor site for bone grafting prior to implant placement (2006) Implant Dent, 15, pp. 420-426Misch, C.E., (2000) Implantes dentários contemporãneos, , 2 ed. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common malignant tumor and the fourth leading cause of cancer death worldwide. The crucial role of fatty acids for a number of important biological processes suggests a more in-depth analysis of inter-individual differences in fatty acid metabolizing genes as contributing factor to colon carcinogenesis. We examined the association between genetic variability in 43 fatty acid metabolism-related genes and colorectal risk in 1225 CRC cases and 2032 controls participating in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition study. Three hundred and ninety two single-nucleotide polymorphisms were selected using pairwise tagging with an r(2) cutoff of 0.8 and a minor allele frequency of > 5%. Conditional logistic regression models were used to estimate odds ratios and corresponding 95% confidence intervals. Haplotype analysis was performed using a generalized linear model framework. On the genotype level, hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase 15-(NAD) (HPGD), phospholipase A2 group VI (PLA2G6) and transient receptor potential vanilloid 3 were associated with higher risk for CRC, whereas prostaglandin E receptor 2 (PTGER2) was associated with lower CRC risk. A significant inverse association (P <0.006) was found for PTGER2 GGG haplotype, whereas HPGD AGGAG and PLA2G3 CT haplotypes were significantly (P <0.001 and P = 0.003, respectively) associated with higher risk of CRC. Based on these data, we present for the first time the association of HPGD variants with CRC risk. Our results support the key role of prostanoid signaling in colon carcinogenesis and suggest a relevance of genetic variation in fatty acid metabolism-related genes and CRC risk

The present study aimed to evaluate the body proportions of sitting height and leg length in children and adolescents with Down's syndrome (DS). The sample consisted of 99 individuals with DS (40 girls with an average age of 11.45 ± 2.6 years and 59 boys with an average age of 12.07 ± 3.0 years). The following parameters were studied: chronological age, height, sitting height and leg length. The body proportions of each segment were calculated using body indices and the Phantom model. For the statistical analysis, the normality test and descriptive analyses of central tendency and dispersion were performed, and Student's t-test was used. For all treatments, the statistical software program SPSS version 13.0 was used, and a significance level of p < 0.05 was set. The body proportion of the upper and lower segments of children and adolescents with DS differed from those of the typical population in terms of leg length, whereas the seated height values of individuals with DS †were similar to those of individuals without DS.232198202Roizen, N.J., Patterson, D., Down's syndrome (2003) Lancet, 12 (361), pp. 1281-9Sugayama, S.M.M., Kim, C.A., Anormalidades Cromossômicas Chromosomal abnormalities In: Setian (2002) N. To access the final edited and published work see https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-021-22108-0The molecular architecture of α-Synuclein (α-Syn) inclusions, pathognomonic of various neurodegenerative disorders, remains unclear. α-Syn inclusions were long thought to consist mainly of α-Syn fibrils, but recent reports pointed to intracellular membranes as the major inclusion component. Here, we use cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) to image neuronal α-Syn inclusions in situ at molecular resolution. We show that inclusions seeded by α-Syn aggregates produced recombinantly or purified from patient brain consist of α-Syn fibrils crisscrossing a variety of cellular organelles. Using gold-labeled seeds, we find that aggregate seeding is predominantly mediated by small α-Syn fibrils, from which cytoplasmic fibrils grow unidirectionally. Detailed analysis of membrane interactions revealed that α-Syn fibrils do not contact membranes directly, and that α-Syn does not drive membrane clustering. Altogether, we conclusively demonstrate that neuronal α-Syn inclusions consist of α-Syn fibrils intermixed with membranous organelles, and illuminate the mechanism of aggregate seeding and cellular interaction

Dados de avaliações in vitro não correlacionaram com os dados obtidos nos experimentos com plantas. bioprospecting work was performed with species of marine macroalgae and aquatic plants, in order to screen at least an extract able to control the bean anthracnose. For that, it was collected and identified 17 marine macroalgae species, i.e. Acanthophora spicifera, Bostrychia sp., Bryothamnion seaforthii, Bryothamnion triquetrum, Centroceras clavulatum, Cheilosporum sagittatum, Codium isthmocladum, Codium sp., Enteromorpha sp., Enteromorpha lingulata, Gracilaria tepocensis, Hypnea spinella, Lithophyllum sp., Petalonia sp., Sargassum stenophyllum, Ulva lactuca, Ulva fasciata as well as two aquatic plant species, i.e. Lemna sp. and Spartina juncea. Thereafter, these species were dried in a chamber and, their compounds were extracted with ethanol and concentrated by solvent evaporating. The extracts were tested in vitro for evaluating the effect of them on the mycelial growth velocity index (IVCM) in culture medium and the conidial germination as well as the pattern of conidial germination (PGC) of C. lindemuthianum in well slides. The extract concentration used in both tests was always 50 mg dry wheight/ mL. Experiments were also carried out under greenhouse conditions where bean plants cv. Uirapuru were previously sprayed with the extracts and inoculated with a conidial suspension of C. lindemuthianum (1,2x106 conidia/ mL). To verify the presence of local effect and residual effect, treated plants were inoculated 4 hours and 7 days after treatment, respectively, and whole plants were evaluated. To investigate the systemic effect, treated plants were treated 7 days after treatment, but the disease was evaluated only on the non-treated uppermost three-leaflet leaf. Anthracnose severity was determined on 5th and 11th day after inoculation (dai). The extract of H. spinella presented a strong action towards the mycelial growth of C. lindemuthianum, reducing the IVCM by 74% when compared to the control. The extracts of Lemna sp. and S. stenophyllum inhibited the fungus conidial germination by 100% and 99%, respectively. In greenhouse tests the B. seaforthii revealed local effect, reducing the disease severity by 35% on the 11 dai. Although without showing local effect, the extract of Ulva fasciata reduced the anthracnose severity on the 11th dai by 24% in whole plants and on the 5th dai systemically by 42% as well. The induction of resistance was taken in consideration to explain the disease severity reduction by the extract of Ulva fasciata. In vitro data did not correlate with those obtained from greenhouse experiments
