Conceptual design of an ALICE Tier-2 centre integrated into a multi-purpose computing facility

    No full text
This thesis discusses the issues and challenges associated with the design and operation of a data analysis facility for a high-energy physics experiment at a multi-purpose computing centre. At the spotlight is a Tier-2 centre of the distributed computing model of the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. The design steps, examined in the thesis, include analysis and optimization of the I/O access patterns of the user workload, integration of the storage resources, and development of the techniques for effective system administration and operation of the facility in a shared computing environment. A number of I/O access performance issues on multiple levels of the I/O subsystem, introduced by utilization of hard disks for data storage, have been addressed by the means of exhaustive benchmarking and thorough analysis of the I/O of the user applications in the ALICE software framework. Defining the set of requirements to the storage system, describing the potential performance bottlenecks and single points of failure and examining possible ways to avoid them allows one to develop guidelines for selecting the way how to integrate the storage resources. The solution, how to preserve a specific software stack for the experiment in a shared environment, is presented along with its effects on the user workload performance. The proposal for a flexible model to deploy and operate the ALICE Tier-2 infrastructure and applications in a virtual environment through adoption of the cloud computing technology and the 'Infrastructure as Code' concept completes the thesis. Scientific software applications can be efficiently computed in a virtual environment, and there is an urgent need to adapt the infrastructure for effective usage of cloud resources

Author of this article Dr. Mykhaylo Yakubovych, Ukrainian researcher of Islamic civilization and culture, translator of the Holy Quran The ethnic history of Ukraine is not my main scientific interest, but I often have to talk to my Western colleagues about the situation in Ukraine. Actually, this is not my own case only, but is well-known to many Ukrainians who are asked: “What part of Ukraine you are from – East or West?” (if you are not from Kyiv, which is somewhere in the middle)

Risk assessment of sports activity and the impact of economic and demographic indicators during the COVID-19 pandemic. Journal of Physical Education and Sport. 2021;22(3), аrt 84:672-9. DOI:10.7752/jpes.2022.03084There are a lot countries which use measures to prevent spread of coronavivus infection COVID 19 coused by SARS-CoV-2. But despite of this pandemic continues. Particularities of sports activities include systematic contact with significant numbers of people, regular visits to other countries and cities for participation in competitions. It means sportsmen are in group of increased risk of infection and spread of COVID 19. For safe partisipation it is important to know measures which are implemented by countries for epidemic control, to study dynamics of indicators, that charachterise epidemic process, to investigate effectivness used preventive measures and posibility to assess potential risks being sportsmen in particular country. Purpose of research. To assess risks of infection COVID 19 in process of sport activities and to study influence of economics and demographic indicators and level of vaccination spread on area and speed of COVID-19. Background. To overcome the epidemic of COVID-19, it is important to study the dynamics of indicators that characterize the epidemiological process. Material and methods. We analyzed the indicators of 100 countries of the world, which on 03/25/2020 topped the rating by the number of infected people in the country. There were analysis and synthesis of literature, Internet resources, statistical methods among research methods. Results. It was found that the economic and demographic indicators of the country do not affect the incidence of COVID-19 however affect on the proportion of population coverage with vaccinations. At the beginning of the study (03/25/2020), in countries with higher economic and demographic indicators, the spread of coronavirus occurred at a slower pace, but now (11/14/2021) the economic and demographic indicators do not affect the country's place in the ranking by the number of infected. The increase in the number of infected and the death rate from coronavirus in the world leads to an increase in the amount of vaccine used. Conclusions. It has been proven that an increase in the number of used vaccines leads to a decrease in the country's place in the ranking in terms of the number of infected. Vaccination is an effective measure to stop the spread of infection in the world

In the work the author investigates how the prominent Ukrainian intellectuals (Mykhaylo Drahomanov, Mykhaylo Pavlyk, Ivan Franko) regarded the emancipation of women. The researcher pays attention to the perception of emancipated women in the letters among them, as well as among other addressees in 70-90s of the ХІХ century. The work is based on the analysis of previously published epistolaria of Mykhaylo Drahomanov, Mykhaylo Pavlyk, Ivan Franko, Lesia Ukrayinka, Olha Roshkevych and others

Previously, we have shown that the weekly load of rats with water-salt solutions of different chemical compositions causes both general and specific reactions of the parameters of metabolism. The purpose of this study is to identify under these conditions specific neuroendocrine and immune responses. Materials and methods. Experiment was performed on 58 healthy female Wistar rats 240-290 g divided into 6 groups. Animals of the first group remained intact, using tap water from drinking ad libitum. Instead, the other rats received the same tap water as well as waters Sophiya, Naftussya, Gertsa and its artificial salt analogue through the probe at a dose of 1,5 mL/100 g of body mass for 6 days. The day after the completion of the drinking course in all rats some neuroendocrine and immune parameters were registered. Results. The method of discriminant analysis revealed 29 parameters of the neuroendocrine-immune complex (10 of them reflect the neuroendocrine regulation, 4 thymus mass and thymocytogram elements, 5 elements of splenocytogram, 10 elements of immunocytogram and leukocytogram of blood and parameters of phagocytosis), according to which the reaction on various water-salt loads are identified with an accuracy of 98.3%. Conclusion. The peculiarities of the reactions of the parameters of the neuroendocrine-immune complex are due to the content of water in sulfate, bicarbonate and magnesium, as well as organic carbon and nitrogen.
