Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Influence of atomic species on laser pulse propagation in underdense plasmas
No full textA 65 fs, intense (similar to 10(18) Wcm(-2)) laser pulse incident on a supersonic, laminar gas-jet was investigated via 90 Thomson Scattering and interferometry diagnostics. In order to study the effect of atomic species on laser pulse propagation, the laser interaction with different gases (Nitrogen and Argon) was monitored. In the experimental conditions, both the atomic species resulted in similar electron densities, however, early diffraction of the laser pulse was observed in Argon gas, while, stable propagation of the pulse over several Rayleigh lengths was seen in the case of Nitrogen gas target. Features of the scattering region indicate a competition between optical diffraction and intensity dependent non-linear focusing of the pulse. The observations suggest that proper choice of the target is essential within the available laser pulse parameters, as it can enhance or spoil the propagation of laser pulse in plasmas. Survival of Salmonella typhimurium, Listeria monocytogenes and indicator bacteria on cooked uncured turkey loaf stored under vacuum at 3°C
No full textSterile slices of cooked uncured turkey loaf were inoculated with 106 CFU of either Salmonella typhimurium, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Citrobacter freundii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, or Enterobacter cloacae. Inoculated samples were vacuum‐packaged and stored at 3 ± 1°C. Microorganisms were enumerated at 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 days on nonselective media. K. pneumoniae exhibited the least cold‐tolerance with a log10 1.70 decrease in numbers. The coliforms E. cloacae, E. coli, and C. freundii had a survival pattern similar to that of S. typhimurium, with population decreases of log10 0.65, 0.82, 1.13, and 0.79, respectively. E. faecalis and L. monocytogenes were significantly more cold‐resistant, with a decrease of log10 0.20 and no significant change in numbers, respectively. Survival of E. faecalis was not significantly (p < 0.01) different than that of L. monocytogenes, suggesting the use of enterococci as indicators of L. monocytogenes contamination of processed meats.Peer reviewedfinal article publishe
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

No full textAbstract Using e + e − annihilation data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb −1, collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, we report the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions B Λ c + → p K L 0 = (1.67 ± 0.06 ± 0.04)%, B Λ c + → p K L 0 π + π − = (1.69 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, and B Λ c + → p K L 0 π 0 = (2.02 ± 0.13 ± 0.05)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Combining with the known branching fractions of Λ c + → p K S 0 , Λ c + → p K S 0 π + π − , and Λ c + → p K S 0 π 0 , we present the first measurements of the K S 0 - K L 0 asymmetries R Λ c + K S , L 0 X = B Λ c + → K S 0 X − B Λ c + → K L 0 X B Λ c + → K S 0 X + B Λ c + → K L 0 X in charmed baryon decays: R Λ c + p K S , L 0 = − 0.025 ± 0.031 , R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π + π − = − 0.027 ± 0.048 and R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π 0 = − 0.015 ± 0.046 . No significant asymmetries with statistical significance are observed

Measurement of the ratio of prompt χ c to J / ψ production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV
No full textThe prompt production of charmonium χ c and J / ψ states is studied in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. The χ c and J / ψ mesons are identified through their decays χ c → J / ψ γ and J / ψ → μ + μ - using 36 pb - 1 of data collected by the LHCb detector in 2010. The ratio of the prompt production cross-sections for χ c and J / ψ, σ (χ c → J / ψ γ) / σ (J / ψ), is determined as a function of the J / ψ transverse momentum in the range 2 < p T J / ψ < 15 GeV / c. The results are in excellent agreement with next-to-leading order non-relativistic expectations and show a significant discrepancy compared with the colour singlet model prediction at leading order, especially in the low p T J / ψ region
