International Views on Educational Poverty. This paper explores the multifactorial nature of the educational poverty phenomenon founding on a literature review carried out in generalist and socio-psycho-pedagogical databases and on dialogues with international experts. What is meant by educational poverty? Are there links with the recent Italian construct of povertà educativa? Initially, it is noted that the phrase “educational poverty” usually corresponds to the Italian “povertà di istruzione” and subsequently one reflects on the contexts where it occurs and on its semantic components. Without claiming to be exhaustive, the author presents scenarios in which the construct is used, focusing on the areas of meaning that broaden the horizons beyond the mere “povertà di istruzione” and on directions to prevent and fight the related phenomenon

Bruno de Finetti and the case of the critical line's last segment
The anticipatory views of Bruno de Finetti on portfolio theory, set out by the author in a 1940 article, have recently been discovered by Mark Rubinstein and reviewed by Harry Markowitz. This paper analyzes the crucial parts of de Finetti's paper and discusses the controversial issue of the critical line's last segment, i.e. the segment that leads to the minimum-variance efficient portfolio. Markowitz [Markowitz, Harry M., 2006. De Finetti scoops Markowitz. In: A Literature postscript. J. Invest. Manag. 4 (3), 3-18 (special issue)] derives the criterion for the last segment to lie on one of the boundaries of the set of legitimate portfolios in two (and n) dimensions and Pressacco [Pressacco, Flavio, 2005. De Finetti, Markowitz e la congettura dell'ultimo segmento. Rendiconti per gli Studi Economici Quantitativi, Universita Ci Foscari di Venezia] shows a necessary and sufficient condition for the last segment to lie inside the legitimate set in three dimensions when the correlations are uniformly positive. This paper revises the terms of the problem and completes the analysis.
A q-analogue of de Finetti’s theorem
Abstract A q-analogue of de Finetti's theorem is obtained in terms of a boundary problem for the q-Pascal graph. For q a power of prime this leads to a characterisation of random spaces over the Galois field F q that are invariant under the natural action of the infinite group of invertible matrices with coefficients from F q
Abstract 2290: The serine-threonine kinase Mink1 as a potential therapeutic target in triple negative breast cancer
International audienceAbstract The developmental Wnt/planar cell polarity (PCP) pathway is the most recently described branch of the Wnt signaling pathways and is strongly implicated in cancer development at early and late stages (PMID: 28718442 and PMID: 30952630). Upregulation of the Wnt/PCP components is observed in many cancers and is associated with cancer progression. However, how their molecular functions are regulated remains an open question. Recent data from our laboratory showed that Prickle1 and Vangl2, two core Wnt/PCP components, are overexpressed in Triple Negative Breast Cancers (TNBC) and associated with poor prognosis (PMID: 27184734 and 26754771). Prickle1 is a cytoplasmic protein phosphorylated by the serine/threonine kinase Mink1, which triggers Prickle1 localization at the plasma membrane and regulates its activity (PMID: 22037766). Activation of this axis contributes to breast cancer cell motility and metastatic spreading in vitro and in vivo (PMID: 27184734). To extend our knowledge of the Mink1 substrates, we carried out a phosphoproteomic strategy and identified LL5β. LL5β is a membrane scaffold molecule that anchors microtubules (MTs) at the cell cortex through its association with CLASP, a plus-end MT protein, to trigger focal adhesion disassembly. We found that LL5β is a prominent member of the Prickle1-associated protein complex and harbors a consensus motif for Mink1 phosphorylation. At the molecular level, we demonstrated a two-step phosphorylation cascade carried out by Mink1 that phosphorylates sequentially Prickle1 to mediate its association with LL5β, then LL5β to promote its interaction with CLASP. Finally, analysis of gene expression data suggests that the concomitant up-regulation of Prickle1 and LL5β mRNA levels is associated with a poor metastasis-free survival for TNBC patients. In an effort to counteract the Mink1-Prickle1-LL5β prometastatic pathway, we selected a Mink1 inhibitor that recapitulates all the phenotypes observed following the knockdown of Mink1 expression. This chemical compound is currently under investigation in preclinical assays using xenografted TNBC cell lines and patient-derived xenografts in nude mice. Review of MR2731982: Fedel, Martina(I-SIN-MI) - Uncertainty, indeterminacy and fuzziness: a probabilistic approach. Probability, uncertainty and rationality, 219–242, CRM Series, 10, Ed. Norm., Pisa, 2010.
The paper presents an interesting generalisation of some results about de Finetti coherent probabilities to an assignment of indeterminate probabilities on many-valued events in an MV-algebra. After recalling the Dutch Book interpretation of probability by de Finetti and his well-known related theorem, which states that an agent's degrees of belief are coherent (i.e. they do not permit a Dutch Book) if and only if they conform to probability axioms, the author proves an analogous result for upper (and lower) probabilities defined on divisible MV-algebras. Specifically, she proves that in a divisible MV-algebra of events a book does not allow any bad bet if and only if it can be extended to an upper probability over the whole MV-algebra. The proof of this result relies on Hahn-Banach and separation theorems as well as on other tools from functional analysis
Probability and Bayesian statistics
This book contains selected and refereed contributions to the "Inter national Symposium on Probability and Bayesian Statistics" which was orga nized to celebrate the 80th birthday of Professor Bruno de Finetti at his birthplace Innsbruck in Austria. Since Professor de Finetti died in 1985 the symposium was dedicated to the memory of Bruno de Finetti and took place at Igls near Innsbruck from 23 to 26 September 1986. Some of the pa pers are published especially by the relationship to Bruno de Finetti's scientific work. The evolution of stochastics shows growing importance of probability as coherent assessment of numerical values as degrees of believe in certain events. This is the basis for Bayesian inference in the sense of modern statistics. The contributions in this volume cover a broad spectrum ranging from foundations of probability across psychological aspects of formulating sub jective probability statements, abstract measure theoretical considerations, contributions to theoretical statistics and stochastic processes, to real applications in economics, reliability and hydrology. Also the question is raised if it is necessary to develop new techniques to model and analyze fuzzy observations in samples. The articles are arranged in alphabetical order according to the family name of the first author of each paper to avoid a hierarchical ordering of importance of the different topics. Readers interested in special topics can use the index at the end of the book as guide
