Development of a popular style in commercial places : the example of tati shops in Paris
The author examines the so-called "popular" shopping networks and facilities. Taking the example of
the Tati stores in Barbès, in the 18th district of Paris, she examines the social and historic conditions of the
development of this brand, and offers an analysis of the different types of social relations at work at Tati in
particular and Barbes in general. Lastly, she demonstrates how this particular social environment
contributed to the arrival of "popular-chic" in the nineties.
Deterioration of mental health and insufficient Covid-19 information among disadvantaged immigrants in the greater Paris area
Objectives
The aim of this study is to provide information on changes in mental health among disadvantaged immigrants from Sub-Saharan Africa in the Greater Paris area and their level of information about Covid-19.
Methods
Prior to the Covid-19 epidemic, the Makasi community-based cohort followed 850 immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa in the Greater Paris area. Between the 1st of April and the 7th of June 2020, all participants scheduled for a follow-up survey were systematically included into an additional COVID-19-related wave of data collection (N = 100). We compared participants' type of housing, level of food insecurity, work and mental health (PHQ9) before and during the first COVID-19-related lockdown, using paired-Mc Nemar chi-2 tests. We next described their level of information on Covid-19 and policy measures, broken down by sex.
Results
Among the 100 participants, 68% had no legal residence permit. Food insecurity was more often reported during lockdown than before (62% vs 52%). 9% of participants had a score indicative of severe depression (PHQ9) before lockdown and 17% afterwards (p = 0.17). Only 51% knew about the possibility of asymptomatic transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
Conclusions
This study brings original information on a hard-to-reach population group. Our results suggest that the lockdown had a detrimental impact on various economic and mental health aspects among disadvantaged migrants residing in the Greater Paris area

The mosaic pattern : cohabitation between ethnic groups in Belleville, Paris
The image of Paris as a ‘cosmopolitan’ city is as old as Paris itself is. However, only in the 1920s and 1930s did Paris earn its reputation of being a writers’ city, an ‘international republic of artists’, to quote Alejo Carpentier. It became a centre of attraction for the intelligentsia worldwide.1 After a period of decline, Paris has once again become a centre of convergence for the world’s elite, a ‘global city’ where international executives and financiers run the global economy and redistribute the world’s resources. The City of Light owes its cosmopolitan nature not only to its cultural and artistic aura, or to its role in economic exchanges and technological innovation. It also, and maybe even especially, owes it to the fact that from the end of the nineteenth century onwards, immigrants from foreign countries and from the provinces began to flow in massively, fostering an unprecedented economic and demographic boom
Olympic landmark for Paris 2012
The Pavillon de l'Arsenal is the centre for information, documentation and exhibition for urban planning and architecture of Paris. A remarkable temporary building was intended to mark the Batignolles location to showcase its Olympian future and reveal its urban potential through a visual landmark at the heart of a location chosen by Paris 2012. The Olympic Landmark will host an exhibition centre to introduce Paris 2012. To meet this challenge, Paris 2010 launched an international architecture competition: 454 projects, from over 80 countries, were submitted. The jury included very high profile international architects: Peter Cook, Shigeru Ban, Jean Nouvel. This research project is based on the transformation of symbolic elements of the sporting world, most notably the running track. The deformation, folding and twisting of the running track forms the basis for: -a continuous and fluid path from the ground up to the top of the landmark; -the creation of an exhibition environment dedicated to the Olympic Games; -a panoramic view of the future Olympic site from a platform enclosed by simple mesh envelop; -a sporting context in which the public are immersed and physically challenged; -the projection of the Olympic symbol in the sky above Paris

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
