    Interferon-mediated changes in the expression of CYP1A1 in human B lymphoblastoid (AHH-1 TK +/-) cells

    The expression of constitutive and inducible cytochrome P450s has been shown to be downregulated by interferon through an unknown pretranslational mechanism that depresses the mRNA encoding P450 apoproteins. To establish an association between gene transcription and P450 apoprotein downregulation by interferon, we studied the effect of recombinant interferon (IFN-alpha 2a) on CYP1A1 in human B lymphoblastoid cell lines. The cHoI cell line expresses inducible native CYP1A1, while the genetically engineered derivative h1A1 v2 expresses a noninducible extrachromosomal vector-derived human CYP1A1 cDNA lacking the CYP1A1 promoter region. We characterized CYP1A1 activity, apoprotein, and mRNA by ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase activity, Western immunoblotting, and Northern blot analysis, respectively. In cHoI cells, following induction with dibenz[a,h]anthracene, interferon depressed CYP1A1 apoprotein and mRNA levels by 55 and 76%, respectively, with no detectable changes in enzyme activity. In h1A1 v2, however, interferon increased CYP1A1 activity, apoprotein, and mRNA. The depression of CYP1A1 mRNA and apoprotein levels incHoI cells, in contrast with the increase observed in h1A1 v2 cells, suggests that nuclear mechanisms are essential for interferon-mediated depression of inducible P450s. From our preliminary results we propose that interferon-mediated downregulation of CYP1A1 may result from inhibition of gene transcription.LR: 20061115; PUBM: Print; JID: 0372712; 0 (Interferon-alpha); 0 (Recombinant Proteins); 9035-51-2 (Cytochrome P-450 Enzyme System); ppublishSource type: Electronic(1

    Production of charged particles, K0(s), K+-, p and Lambda in Z --> b anti-b events and in the decay of b hadrons

    No full text
    A sample of events enriched in bb̄ quark pairs was selected in the data recorded by the DELPHI experiment at LEP during 1992 and 1993, by the presence of secondary decay vertices from short-lived particles. Using this sample, the average multiplicities of KS0, K±, p(p̄), Λ(Λ̄) and of charged particles in bb̄ events have been measured, distinguishing the component from fragmentation and the component coming from the decay of b-hadrons. The measurement of the average charge multiplicity in bb̄ events was used to compute the mean fractional beam energy carried by the primary b-hadron, and the difference in charged particle multiplicity between bb̄ events and light quark (uū, dd̄, ss̄) events

    Measurement of sigma(0)(Lambda B)/sigma(0) x B(Lambda(0)(b)->Lambda(+)(c)pi(-))/B(B)over-bar(0)-> D+pi(-)) in p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1.96 TeV

    We present the first observation of the baryon decay Lambda(0)(b)->Lambda(+)(c)pi(-) followed by Lambda(+)(c)-> pK(-)pi(+) in 106 pb(-1) p (p) over bar collisions at root s=1.96 TeV in the CDF experiment. In order to reduce systematic error, the measured rate for Lambda(0)(b) decay is normalized to the kinematically similar meson decay (B) over bar (0)-> D+pi(-) followed by D+->pi K-+(-)pi(+). We report the ratio of production cross sections (sigma) times the ratio of branching fractions (B) for the momentum region integrated above p(T)> 6 GeV/c and pseudorapidity range |eta|Lambda X-0(b))/sigma(p (p) over bar ->(B) over bar X-0)xB(Lambda(0)(b)->Lambda(+)(c)pi(-))/B((B) over bar (0)-> D+pi(-))=0.82 +/- 0.08(stat)+/- 0.11(syst)+/- 0.22[B(Lambda(+)(c)-> pK(-)pi(+))]

    Measurement of correlated b(b)over-bar production in p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1960 GeV

    We present a measurement of the correlated b (b) over bar production cross section. The data used in this analysis were taken with the upgraded CDF detector (CDF II) at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 742 pb(-1). We utilize muon pairs with invariant mass 5 \u3c= m(mu mu)\u3c= 80 GeV/c(2) produced by b (b) over bar double semileptonic decays. For muons with p(T)\u3e= 3 GeV/c and /eta/\u3c= 0.7, that are produced by b and (b) over bar quarks with p(T)\u3e= 2 GeV/c and /y/\u3c= 1.3, we measure sigma(b -\u3emu,)(b) over bar (-\u3emu)=1549 +/- 133 pb. We compare this result with theoretical predictions and previous measurements. We also report the measurement of sigma(c -\u3emu,c over bar -\u3emu), a by-product of the study of the background to b(b) over bar production

    We present an improved measurement of b-meson lifetimes using fully reconstructed B-decays produced in p(p) over bar collisions at roots = 1.8 TeV, using 114 pb(-1) of data collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We obtain tau(B+) = 1.636+/-0.058(stat)+/-0.025(syst) ps, tau(B-0) = 1.497+/-0.073(stat)+/-0.032(syst) ps and for the lifetime ratio tau(B+)/tau(B-0) = 1.093+/-0.066(stat)+/-0.028(syst)

    Search for B-s(0)->mu(+)mu(-) and B-0 ->mu(+)mu(-) Decays with 2 fb(-1) of p(p)over-bar Collisions

    We have performed a search for B-s(0)->mu(+)mu(-) and B-0 ->mu(+)mu(-) decays in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV using 2 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The observed number of B-s(0) and B-0 candidates is consistent with background expectations. The resulting upper limits on the branching fractions are B(B-s(0)->mu(+)mu(-))mu(+)mu(-)) < 1.8 x 10(-8) at 95% C.L

    Measurement of the rate of b anti-b b anti-b events in hadronic Z decays and the extraction of the gluon splitting into b anti-b

    No full text
    The rate ZbbbbZ \rightarrow b\overline{b}b\overline{b} was measured using about 2x1062 x 10^6 hadronic decays collected by the DELPHI experiment in 1994 and 1995. Events were forced into 3-jets with ymin>0.06y_{min} > 0.06 and a b-tag was required for every jet. The rate was measured to be: R4b=BR(Zbbbb)/BR(Zhadrons)=(6.0+1.9(stat)+1.4(syst.))x104R_{4b} = BR(Z \to b\overline{b}b\overline{b}) / BR(Z \to hadrons) = (6.0 +- 1.9(stat) +- 1.4(syst.)) x 10^{-4} where the invariant mass of every bbb\overline{b} system is above twice the b quark mass. Using the value of R4bR_{4b} the probability of secondary production of a bbb\overline{b} pair from a gluon per hadronic ZZ decay, gbbg_{bb}, was extracted and found to be: gbb=(3.3+1.0(stat.)+0.8(syst.))x103g_{bb} = (3.3+-1.0(stat.) +- 0.8(syst.)) x 10^{-3}

    Observation of orbitally excited B mesons

    No full text
    Experimental evidence for the existence of orbitally excited B meson states is presented in an analysis of the Bπ and B*π distribution of Q = m(B**) - m(B(*)) - m(π) using Z0 decay data taken with the DELPHI detector at LEP. The mean Q-value of the decays B** → B(*)π is measured to be 284 ± 5 (stat.) ± 15 (syst.) MeV/c2, and the Gaussian width of the signal is 79 ± 5 (stat.) ± 8 (syst.) MeV/c2. This signal can be described as a single resonance of mass m = 5732 ± 5 (stat.) ± 20 (syst.) MeV/c2 and full width Γ = 145 ± 28 MeV/c2. The observed shape is also consistent with the production of several broad and narrow states as predicted by the quark model and partly observed in the D-meson sector. The production rate of B** per b-jet is found to be 0.27 ± 0.02 (stat.) ± 0.06 (syst.).0info:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

    Measurement of the Lambda(0)(b) Lifetime in Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-) Decays in p(p)over-bar Collisions at root s=1.96 TeV

    No full text
    We report a measurement of the lifetime of the Lambda(0)(b) baryon in decays to the Lambda(+)(c)pi(-) final state in a sample corresponding to 1.1 fb(-1) collected in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. Using a sample of about 3000 fully reconstructed Lambda(0)(b) events we measure tau(Lambda(0)(b) ) = 1.401 +/- 0.046(stat) +/- 0.035(syst) ps (corresponding to c tau(Lambda(0)(b)) = 420.1 +/- 13.7(stat) +/- 10.6(syst) mu m, where c is the speed of light). The ratio of this result and the world average B-0 lifetime yields tau(Lambda(0)(b))/tau(B-0) = 0.918 +/- 0.038 (stat) and (syst), in good agreement with recent theoretical predictions
